Hallelujah! A scientist confidant enough to state that he doesn’t have an absolute answer to his subject. Give him my research money!

A Nova documentary explored how thru genomic analysis, plague survivors from the time period discussed here had a mutation in their genome that gave their descendants an immunity to the AIDS/HiV virus. Another fascinating example of how the study of genography(?), historical pathogens can inform modern issues, in this case the reason for some people's immunity to AIDS that will impact a possible vaccine.

14:05 and it disappeared.. but it didn't.
    still around like in madagascar.
i think we developed some resistance to it over hundred of yrs and it became almost eradicated.
maybe take dna from current survivors and compare to known deaths from it of dark ages and see if genes helped survival.

It's obvious by the date on the video that he was interviewed prior to the Madagascar outbreak.

It's interessting to consider how losing half of the European population has affected the ancestry of living people!
