CHAVACANO is the Lingua Franca of Zamboanga City as well as the Province of Basilan. Even if their mother tongue is Bisaya and Tausug they know how to speak Chavacano. Others who do not speak the language are recent migrants to the city seeking better lives including better education, higher salaries and income. Zamboanga City is so progressive that it attracted different tribes to settle in the city. But the original settlers of the city are the Subanens who later converted to Christianity and speak the Spanish-creole Chavacano today.
