I've just done a video on these curtains and guess what, van-x have now started putting a bloody jig inside the box!!!!! You must of influenced them to take action! keep the vids coming mate, all the best, Adam, Black Rock 😎

    I was going to skip this video. I thought, “What do I need to know about curtains?” Curiosity got me though and I had to watch. As usual I’m glad I did. It’s been a great build series, very well planned and brilliantly executed! Thank you!

    Greg - it doesn’t matter if what you are teaching is something I think I don’t need to know for my Sprinter, I get sucked in every time by your quiet, patient and detailed discussion of whatever it is you are doing.

    How did any of us self builders every get jobs done without watching your vids Greg. Once again a huge thank you for: 1) taking the time to do this vid. 2) for showing us how to make a curved puller and lastly for your delivery of information. Simple, easy to understand instructions taken from a life time, (I don’t doubt) of learning. 👍😊 Cheers

    Love the "every day average bloke" straight forward and clear showing of the entire process, very much including the form/tool making and materials used! Honestly, the focus of any specific application is of lesser concern to me than the great way you approach it. Three cheers!

    You, sir, are a genius! I'm completely enthralled by your work and you have my utmost admiration and respect.
    I'm more into narrowboats than campervans, but you even give Colin Jaques - to whom I doff my cap - a run for his money.
    I can't wait for the total reveal.

    Nice looking curtains, and blackout curtains are invaluable. My plan (still all theoretical I'm afraid) is to get a completely windowless van and buy something like Dometic S7P windows for it. Those come with blackout curtains and insect nets (as they can be opened). I'll probably just have decorative curtains over those, most likely.

    I always bradall the carpet lining before drilling to avoid the drill picking up and pulling a thread line in the carpet. Lovely result though Greg thanks, we'll be using that system in our bus now.

      The only thin I would do differently is not to curve it too far up the sides as the curtains lose their stretch and appear floppy on the sides.

    the jig was a brilliant idea. i hope to be using something like that for my own van build. thank you for showing me how to make it. because buying one for a single application like that would be expensive and i probably would never use it again.

    • @GregVirgoe
      @GregVirgoe  6 лет назад

      Exactly, at least this way it was just a few scraps, we have all our old jigs stored on some shelves in the workshop, one or two have been used again or repurposed for something else. A jig is a good way to make a repetitive task consistent.

    You measured the radius of the window, which should be the outside radius of the rail, but made the inner form the same radius.
    It should have been 10cm minus the thickness of the rail.

      There is only a top rail for the cab divider so the curtain hangs to about a foot off the floor 300mm approx just below the level of the front seats. It has three tie backs on each side when not in use.

    I just started watching your videos and I am very impressed by the way you put so much detail into them. I’m a truck driver. Don’t do any van stuff. But getting everything ready to put on a new sleeper for the truck. Much bigger than the factory one i have now. Anyway I have an idea for the bed wondering if you could help a bit. Just insight. Keep up the good work you’ve given me lots of ideas so far. Thanks

      I can try and answer your questions if you want to fire away.

    • @scotts1stop
      @scotts1stop 6 лет назад +1

      Ok so I’m taking off the factory sleeper (60”deep) replacing it with a (100”deep) one. My bed is longways across the back wall. In the new sleeper I want to turn it long with my head to the back wall this way i can get a bigger mattress. But want fold it up to make a couch in the middle of the ( room) what I’m trying to figure out is how to make it fold up with out having to fight it (manual labor) sucks lol. Do you have a suggestion on where to start. Maybe on a track system but I don’t know what kind of pully system would go forward and back. Any suggestions would muchly appropriated. Thanks again.

    Amazing work and attention to detail in your build series. Not sure if you may have mentioned before, just wandering why you went for the glass windows and not the double glazed motorhome type of window? Im sure you have a good valid reason, probably of something that Im unaware of. Excellent work Greg.

      Purely aesthetics Mark, the plastic ones have much more function but just look ugly.

  • @simonrutherford5738

    I followed your video to the letter Greg. What I didn’t do was measure each window separately! The windows in the sliding door(s) (mine has left & Right Electric doors) are a different measurement to the other factory side windows in the minibus version. Lesson learned! One replacement track required and a second jig for the side body windows in my 2018 registered but 2017 built sprinter. I saw the jig Adam at black rock outfitters had I have never seen that jig before but agree it kinks the track.
    I’m back to square one now starting over and measuring twice bend once this time! Amateur mistake! That’s unforgivable at this stage in my build!! A touch of complacency and boredom of the never ending build still going on after two years! 🥱😤😉

    Hello. I'm getting a router today but will bits work? Or do you have to use the same make of bits for it? I found you using a router on a van episode very interesting and useful because I'm looking in to do a van and trailer build and I need to get the right bits.

    • @GregVirgoe
      @GregVirgoe  6 лет назад +1

      Various bits will work you just have to make sure the shaft size of the bit suits your router. Most compact routers are 1/4” and larger routers are 1/2”. Different makes will still work ok 👍🏼 I find the router to be really useful tool.

    • @GregVirgoe
      @GregVirgoe  4 года назад +1

      One of many Sam’s we do sometimes get a little bit on the glass if it really cold outside. But we find that good ventilation and bit of heat at night keeps that down to a minimum.
