Laura Secord use to be on the south east corner of King & Simcoe St. too.
    I spent my dimes there.
    Love this!
I remember so much of old Oshawa. Morgans Self Book Exchange was my favourite haunt in the early 70’s.
    Simcoe South
    Comic Books galore!!😂

The Wool and Mill office building still exists. It's actually very beautiful, and has a lot of old charm. And the post office had a fire, I believe, in 1955, or 1956. That's why it was torn down, or never rebuilt.
I love history! This was awesome! :)

This is so fascinating. I recently moved to downtown Oshawa and it's great to learn about the area. I also work in McLaughlin Hall :) It's not the entrance to the hospital - it's still free standing. The road that went through to Alma doesn't exist but there is a walking path that goes straight through.

One thing that is fascinating, but not talked about, are the many small stores and restaurants that surrounded GM. For example, there was a small grocery store, with a walk-in butcher/cold storage in the back, that occupied the NW corner of Adelaide and Division. Across from that was a small restaurant, as there were on many corners. Please look into these early entrepreneurs.

1970s architecture was NOT good to the Oshawa downtown. Then again, the following 50 years hasn't been great either.
