Gotta say, it still amazes me how often, at the highest level of the sport, you have a defender simply failing to recognize they are last back and taking an aggressive under position that leads to an easy huck score. Easier said than done I know...
I'm a fan of both of these teams. Great players. Watching Freechild and Mickle and so many other greats on one field is amazing. I gotta say, though, Jagt is likely the most dominant player on the field today (2x AUDL MVP and all) but still get the impression that he has questionable spirit. Showy flexing when he scores a fairly easy point: 1:43. Fouls a receiver who doesn't call it, then bumps the guy a second time afterward: 3:15. Then jumps into the defense and calls foul on two chasing defenders when he is the receiver (and wiffs) on the next play: 3:31. C'mon.
I also think that Jagts spirit is questionable at least, nevertheless, these moments you picked out are fine in my opinion. At 3:15 there's zero contact, look at the slow-mo if you have doubts, the bump afterwards was just a light shoulder touch. On the next play, he gets legitimately fouled, not on the initial contact, but on the second effort. There are plenty of clips of him being unspirited (2018 nationals against sockeye for example), not these though.
I agree with all of this. I feel like this entire match has a lot more showiness (never understood the slamming/spiking/kick the disc post-score, for example) than a typical semi or final from 10 years ago or so. I know that some of it is down to who chooses not to take exception, and the mutually agreed upon level of physicality between both sides. But super aggressive/macho displays are increasingly common, and--speaking as a big time amateur--I wish the sport weren't trending that way.
That greatest attempt was *unbelievable*
