Drawing Poppies in Soft Pastels - Underpainting Method

In this video I'm showing you how I drew/painted poppies in soft pastels on UArt 500 using a complimentary color underpainting fixed with isopropyl alcohol

*Unison soft pastels
*Richeson hand-rolled soft pastels
*Rembrandt soft pastels
*Blick Artist's soft pastels
*UArt 500 sanded paper
*Isopropyl alcohol
*2-inch synthetic brush

Wow, not only a great picture but I had no idea Pastelmat came in different grades and I've never seen the alcohol trick before

Oops! My description had Pastelmat in it but I actually used UArt 500 sanded paper for this. You could also use Pastelmat to get a similar effect - I've read that Pastelmat can accept wet media/underpaintings like this, but I haven't tried it myself. Thanks for watching! :D
