DEAL!!! Menard's has a mechanic's tool kit deal! Performax 285-Piece with case $99! ($50 mail-in rebate) Shown in this video: ruclips.net/video/VST6fE7buOI/видео.html
Love this series, planning to get that craftsman 216 set in the spring when I can drive. Did the measurement and it will fit perfect in my trunk with another 2 drawer from the Versa stack system so I can also have screwdrivers pliers crescents and other tools with me an organized at all times.
ive seen all the videos in this series, good job thanks for taking the time. I just purchased a new Truck for overlanding/fishing so the info came in handy. still a hard choice!
Just got the craftsman for Christmas fits nice under my rear seats in the truck. Seems like a good set. For the sizes it skips I have in the older craftsman. I took the spark plugs sockets out and added a 3” extension and socket adapter to fit on my impact driver. Going to rebuild my frontend this weekend with the kit
Thank you for making this series. I’ve watched all three. I ended up buying the Gearwrench set from Home Depot as this set are 6-point sockets and it has the least amount of skips. Like you, I was annoyed by the sockets not staying put. I’m thinking maybe putting some non-slip grip sheet in between to keep it from rattling off the assigned place.
Great review. I was looking for a briefcase format tool set for my car and nothing beats the pittsburgh 225 set. The quality may not be the best but for an emergency they only need to work once.
I’ve had such good luck with Pittsburg stuff. I would never claim to be a mechanic, but I turn a wrench a fair bit. Not the nicest made or prettiest, but have worked for me every time. Might need this set for the back of the family truckster.
I have a 10 yr old Kirkland set from sams similar to the Pittsburg. only gripe is the briefcase style doest fit under the back seat in the storage area. Thank you for the review, covid has added filler to meet the $99 tag sadly.
Appreciate the in depth side by side comparisons of these sets, which is what I was looking for when I found your channel. Look forward to your future videos!
Several months ago I picked up a Husky 230 piece tool box set for $99. Only used a few of the sockets. The ratchets do not lock into the sockets easily. Hopefully this will improve with use. Carried it outside for a job and had a full tray slide out. I don't love it.
Happy thanksgiving. Really appreciated you going over all these sets in the series and it truly has helped me in my value judgment of which set to purchase. Thank you for your unbiased information.
Very informative reviews man. I have owned both the Craftsman 229 3 drawer and 216 Versastack tool sets, but ended up returing each prior to using them. Couldnt get past the 12pt 1/2 sockets. I ended up deciding on the 226 pc tough system dewalt kit for 129$ and am very happy with it very comprehensive set. Keep up the reviews boss!
I like the briefcase style of box for the trunk of my car. I gave the Pittsburgh kit to a buddy of mine as a house warming gift when he moved into his first apartment, and it’s been perfect for him.
When it comes to sockets I lean to large labeled and easy to read sockets with a decent case. I like that you dud the shake test. I hate it when the tools shake and rattle. Low profile Rataching wrenches are always a better choice. That's for the comparisons.
Glad you reposted with the details on the Gearwrench set. I'm really eyeing that set and the movement sucks but I wonder if you a thin foam sheet would keep everything together better. Need a more mobile tool set since I have to lug everything down to a vehicle and then drive to a family member's garage and don't want to setup a tool cart down there just yet...
I have watched several of your series. It is nice to know which sets don't get destroyed in the case when dropped. I like your comments and find them useful. I am looking for a set for each of my vehicles, since I am keeping them longer and working on my vehicles.
Oh yes, I really like that Harbor Freight set. I've been using a cheap breifcase set that my sister gave me as a Christmas gift 20+ years ago. It has served me well, but I've lost a couple of items, and the case is falling apart. The Pittsburg seems like a great replacement/upgrade. The briefcase design is great at being compact, yet packing in A LOT of tools. I also like how you open it up and can see everything, unlike the case sets with drawers and flip up tops, etc. I'm thinking that this might be it .... along with a stack system for additional/miscellaneous tools, chemicals, lubes, parts, etc. The stack system would replace my current additional box which is way too small, and also falling apart. Great information. Thanks.
I was gifted a set of icon wrenches that have that gun metal look. They were extra long metric, the finish is noticeably different and after a couple years of use the finish still looks great. Thanks for the videos
I like the wrenches from that gunmetal set, those wrenches look comfortable in the hand. The Gunmetal set looks like a good buy but your right it does lack in sizes and the ability to buy more gunmetal finish tools. Looks like it's just that set only. Great series on the tool brand options.
Great video, thanks so much. Maybe some of the skips are because there is a metric equivalent or vice versa, like a 13mm for a half inch, but a 10mm completely skipped? Somebody probably lost there job.
All the socket sets I have are smaller ones my DeWalt one is only a 84 piece set which I like a lot because it’s small and compact a lot of sockets and ratchets I’ve just bought individually over time and have them on socket trays I have noticed that DeWalt doesn’t sell a lot of different individual sockets because there are certain size sockets that I wanted to get but they didn’t have them so I went with Tekton.
The Pittsburgh Mechanics Tool set is great with its socket range, including 12-point 1/4in sockets. Plus, the TPM handles on the 3 ratchets, which you don't get on the 301 piece set or the Quinn 428 piece set. That was huge for me in terms of ergonomics and hand fatigue. Most of the Pittsburgh stuff at HF is the same as Quinn, just a different colorway.
Thanks for taking the time to do this type of review. I need a tool set for my truck as well, I like the Pittsburgh set as well as the gearwrench set. Pittsburgh set for truck and Gear wrench set for tool box
Those finger ratchets are more useful than people give them credit for. It's not something you'll use all the time but they're very nice to have. I think it's definitely worth picking one up just to have it
I love gearwrench for my garage, but if I'm gonna have a bunch of tools in my car, I wanna not be worrying about someone bashing in my windows to steal them lol. Pittsburgh seems like a really good balance of "good enough quality for side of the road" and "if someone walks off with them it won't end the world". I'd be the most worried about having a DeWalt case in my car the most tbh, let alone not having a 10mm wrench is insane.
I would stay away from Gearwrench just because of the warranty. I tried to warranty an Armstrong wrench with Grearwrench. They said sure take it to Gearwrench dealer. All of the dealers in my area said nope. Gearwrench is supposed to be the replacement for defunct Armstrong. I’ll stick to the store house brands.
Just picked up a $90 Channellock 200pc set at Sams Club. Got it because it came with 14 ratcheting wrenches and 1/4", 3/8", 1/2" ratchets, extensions for each, deep and short sockets to 19mm-3/4", tons of bits. But thought it was redundant that it had hex sockets and two extra hex 1/4" adaptors. Guess if you want to but them straight one a drill. Also had a hex to magnetic hex adaptor. The magnet in the screwdriver is noticeably weak, and the ratcheting wrenches have a slightly bigger than normal box end for a ratchet style. Although has 90teeth and slop is pretty good making small movements effective. Got it to replace my favorite portable set of Crescent 70pc, which sold for $74 online.. so why not pick it up local.
Make sure ALL or Most of your sockets are 6 sides and not 12. Also watch out for those 200+ piece sets where 100 pieces are allen wrenches and driver heads.
I got the Gear wrench set to keep at the house because I've bought the 1/4-inch ratchet before, for everyday use at the automotive shop I work at, and it was awesome. It is kind of like my Matco 3/8 ratchet I use daily. I do admit the only downside is the case.
In that GW set, I’d swap the ratchets out. The 3/8 I’d replace with the 90t compact head from them. That Dewalt set missing a 10mm is the single dumbest skip I’ve ever seen. The 14mm skipped in a Kobalt set I have is the runner up to that. I have one of the dark chrome Craftsman ratchets and it has the heaviest back drag of any single 3/8 or 1/2 ratchet I’ve ever encountered.
Still no look at that 215-piece Hart Mechanic's Set that Walmart's currently got for $94, huh? But I get it: this episode's about briefcase kits. Thing is, I actually snagged the Hart one for half price ($47) as an "open box" last week, just because I couldn't walk away from that kinda deal. It was all there--just missing the outer cardboard packaging covering. So, just for a gag, I hauled it over to the nearby sporting goods desk, and a manager marked it down there on the spot--even printed out a little barcode price tag. It's not a bad kit: silky-smooth 90 tooth ratchets, super-visible markings and very little filler. I agree that the Pittsburgh kit is the clear buy there in this crop for just $99, if only for selection and ease of warranty replacement. I'm not normally a huge fan of rubbery "comfort handles" on ratchets, but I could deal with them at that price point. I am WAY less impressed by that Dewalt kit. With respect to all those Dewalt electric fan boys and fetishists out there, it really DOES seem like they haven't quite got the whole mechanical hand tools thing sorted out yet. And who needs black tools? Ain't it hard enough to spot a shiny chrome wrench dropped down into the nooks and crannies of an engine bay? You wanna make 'em black and even harder to spot? Jeez! Why not camouflage? Those guys should maybe stick to woodworking and hanging drywall.
I used to be a plastics moulding tech. The Gear Wrench case could be from not being cooled properly when removed from mould. Mould or mold I have seen both spellings used. I like mould to differentiate from biological mold as in black mold for example.Or plastic is too thin for the type of plastic.
I never see you review icon but always pitsburg.. honestly icon is more expensive but you can't beat harbor frights warentee it's the closest thing to old craftsman we have now
This has been a really great series!! I’ve been trying to decide what set to get for my car as I travel quite a bit, definitely a lot of information to think about!!
Look forward to your giveaway. Thanks for reviewing all these sets so I don't have to buy them 😁. I bought the Husky 270 piece set, and the Craftsman 239 piece set, as well as the Craftsman 121 Gunmetal chrome set, all in the past month. I immediately returned the Craftsman 239 set because it's a big case for so little useful tools. I really like the Craftsman 121 Gunmetal chrome set for all the reasons you gave. I'll probably return the Husky 270 set but one thing I like is the ratchet handles on the 1/2" and 3/8" are longer than Craftsman. It would be useful if you also compared the lengths in future reviews. I'm curious as how the ratchets in the Kobalt 227 piece compares.

DEAL!!! Menard's has a mechanic's tool kit deal! Performax 285-Piece with case $99! ($50 mail-in rebate) Shown in this video: ruclips.net/video/VST6fE7buOI/видео.html
I like how the Pittsburgh set has pliers in it, great set in a small package
Love this series, planning to get that craftsman 216 set in the spring when I can drive. Did the measurement and it will fit perfect in my trunk with another 2 drawer from the Versa stack system so I can also have screwdrivers pliers crescents and other tools with me an organized at all times.
Thanks for including Gearwrench! It's much appreciated!

Ya I think that would help a lot with the rattling.
@@projectkarr Yup. It worked. I just cut a piece. It didn’t rattle as much and the sockets stayed put.
Great review. I was looking for a briefcase format tool set for my car and nothing beats the pittsburgh 225 set. The quality may not be the best but for an emergency they only need to work once.
I’ve had a Dewalt 192 pc set and has worked amazing last 5 years
Great reviews…looking at the Dewalt/Caftsman sets myself
I’ve had such good luck with Pittsburg stuff. I would never claim to be a mechanic, but I turn a wrench a fair bit. Not the nicest made or prettiest, but have worked for me every time. Might need this set for the back of the family truckster.
I have a 10 yr old Kirkland set from sams similar to the Pittsburg. only gripe is the briefcase style doest fit under the back seat in the storage area. Thank you for the review, covid has added filler to meet the $99 tag sadly.
Thank you for reviewing all of these because i was looking for a tool set under 100 dollars and your videos are the best out there
Appreciate the in depth side by side comparisons of these sets, which is what I was looking for when I found your channel. Look forward to your future videos!
Thank you for the great review. It really helps me to figure out which tool set works best for me.
Just pick up my set today from home depot gearwrench 106 pc for $99
I appreciate the videos . been looking for a new set to keep in my truck.
Several months ago I picked up a Husky 230 piece tool box set for $99. Only used a few of the sockets. The ratchets do not lock into the sockets easily. Hopefully this will improve with use. Carried it outside for a job and had a full tray slide out. I don't love it.

I like the briefcase style of box for the trunk of my car. I gave the Pittsburgh kit to a buddy of mine as a house warming gift when he moved into his first apartment, and it’s been perfect for him.
Ya they definitely fit in more places than the other sets and that’s an awesome gift!
When it comes to sockets I lean to large labeled and easy to read sockets with a decent case. I like that you dud the shake test. I hate it when the tools shake and rattle. Low profile Rataching wrenches are always a better choice. That's for the comparisons.
Never really thought about the sockets moving around in the boxes but I’m glad I know now that’s it’s something to look out for.
Ya I think if you got a 1/4 piece of foam from a craft store you would have almost no movement in the Gearwrench case.
I have watched several of your series. It is nice to know which sets don't get destroyed in the case when dropped. I like your comments and find them useful. I am looking for a set for each of my vehicles, since I am keeping them longer and working on my vehicles.
Already have a similar dewalt set and really enjoy it, wouldn’t mind picking up the craftsman set and see how it compares
Oh yes, I really like that Harbor Freight set. I've been using a cheap breifcase set that my sister gave me as a Christmas gift 20+ years ago. Great information. Thanks.
Cut a piece of cardboard to fit on top of the tools. It will hold the tools in place. I had the dewalt 247 piece set and it solved the problem.
I have the Dewalt in chrome but a 3/8-1/4 set and have the crescent set both great sets
That Pittsburgh set is awesome, I've had it in my truck for the past three years now and it's been great.
I just found your videos, and I think you do a great job! You definitely know what people buy these kits for. Thanks!
Great video, thanks so much. Maybe some of the skips are because there is a metric equivalent or vice versa, like a 13mm for a half inch, but a 10mm completely skipped? Somebody probably lost there job.

I love my 216 piece Craftsman set. Can you compare the ratchet head sizes with the Gunmetal set?
The Pittsburgh Mechanics Tool set is great with its socket range, including 12-point 1/4in sockets. Plus, the TPM handles on the 3 ratchets, which you don't get on the 301 piece set or the Quinn 428 piece set. That was huge for me in terms of ergonomics and hand fatigue. Thanks for taking the time to do this type of review. I need a tool set for my truck as well, I like the Pittsburgh set as well as the gearwrench set. Pittsburgh set for truck and Gear wrench set for tool box
Thinking of getting the Pittsburg...or Craftsman...Saw all 3 vids...
I really appreciate this side by side comparison. Makes shopping for one A LOT. easier! Thanks!
Really have been enjoying your this series on the different tool sets. Thanks for the info.
Great video. Very informative to help me out to pick the right set.
So much information, and knowledge coming from this young man. Wow!
Appreciate the review. I've been considering a set in this price range and your comparison of all these was helpful. Thanks.
Appreciate your in-depth review of all of these socket sets!
Just picked up the craftsman gunmetal set but trying to decide if it’s a good choice.
Those finger ratchets are more useful than people give them credit for. It's not something you'll use all the time but they're very nice to have. I think it's definitely worth picking one up just to have it
Great video, planning on buying a pittsburg and a craftsman tool set
Do you think if you put a thin piece of foam in the box like husky does that it would prevent the moving around?
Yes I think it would help a ton.
Great. Video as always! I like seeing what others think about the many different tool brands.
Nice job, a couple of your reviews helped with my decision to buy.
I'd be the most worried about having a DeWalt case in my car the most tbh, let alone not having a 10mm wrench is insane.
great video showing all the differences in these sets.
Very well done. I love how you go through all the sizes. Thanks
What kit would you buy to put in a trunk of a car to keep it going Pittsburgh or craftsman 216 which one has the best selection of 6pt and 12pt
Hey cool video! I really like the Craftsmen set in my opinion. Gunmetal looks more classy to me. Keep up the good work.
great video, really like how you go in depth on the sets and your nonbiased opinion.
Watched all 3 parts, dude you sold me on the craftsman versastack! Thanks for taking the time to make these videos, it does help us a lot. Subbed
Good info. Should review Milwaukee mechanics hand tools even though there are so few.
Great video as always. Such an underrated channel, keep at it dude!
Love the skip review. Very good information. Thank you.
That dewalt set is nice!
They have a set for 100 bucks at sam's club made by channel lock that seems decent I'd like to see your opinion on it
The craftsman gunmetal set looks nice
Thanks for these reviews! Much appreciated!
Just picked up a $90 Channellock 200pc set at Sams Club. Got it to replace my favorite portable set of Crescent 70pc, which sold for $74 online.. so why not pick it up local.
I'm not wanting the tool set. I'm curious to know if the foam insert had anything to do with the tools staying in place.?
Make sure ALL or Most of your sockets are 6 sides and not 12. Also watch out for those 200+ piece sets where 100 pieces are allen wrenches and driver heads.
Better to buy kits like this or go for the bigger tool sets like the previous video?
Great videos
Thank you for re-reviewing the gear wrench set.
Good job, very good and honest reviews. Personally I would go with the Craftsman set.
I got the Gear wrench set to keep at the house because I've bought the 1/4-inch ratchet before, for everyday use at the automotive shop I work at, and it was awesome. It is kind of like my Matco 3/8 ratchet I use daily. I do admit the only downside is the case.

Pittsburgh set best bang for your Buck but that craftsman one would be m second pick
What about Milwaukee?
If I feel like replacing the super basic set I have in my car in the near future, I think I'd go with the 216 piece Craftsman versastack.
Happy thanksgiving too all I’d amazing job talking about these cases.

You deserve an award for being so detail oriented. Excellent video. God bless you 💪🏼🙏🏼👌🏽
Is the Pittsburgh better than the 3 drawer craftsman?
The gear wrench seems like the best deal for no skip sets
I have a small gearwrench set. I'm really happy with it.
Hi man! Watching from Monterrey Mexico, thanks a lot for this kind of videos, keep like that you're doing great!
Nice video to see like your content. Since the stores don't provide especifics on what they have or at least look at the quality.God Bless
Pretty informative videos and a good comment section. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for the review, very helpfull!
I use harbor freight love it
I used to be a plastics moulding tech. The Gear Wrench case could be from not being cooled properly when removed from mould. Mould or mold I have seen both spellings used. I like mould to differentiate from biological mold as in black mold for example.Or plastic is too thin for the type of plastic.
Very interesting info. Sounds like they could probably use your help.
Is Milwaukee in there?
Thanks for all the reviews
I never see you review icon but always pitsburg.. honestly icon is more expensive but you can't beat harbor frights warentee it's the closest thing to old craftsman we have now
Great video 👍 hope you had a great Thanksgiving!
Wow 99$ for this GW socket set. Not able to buy it in Canada…at least at this price point!! Good review have a great Thanksgiving
What do you mean by filler
That gearwrench is the best set on that table
Great job on the reviews ..
Amazing review
Without a 10mm? Hmmmm... Where did I put the vise-grip... or the chisel with a nice hammer... well, at least I found the stripped nut removal kit!
