Melanie's album The Good Book is the soundtrack of my early youth. I remember I cried on this song. My littly dog had died after it was hit by a car. I was eleven and inconsolable. The next day mom said come along with me, we drove to a woman who sold little poodles. We bought the cutest little dog you've ever seen, she was peach colored.
I love this cover. It doesn't get mentioned enough. The Good Book has always been my favourite Melanie album, and this is one of the many high points on that album.
Ian waker+ I remember hearing this song on My brother's 8 track player of my Mother's red firebird. It brings back memories of my brother john Thank you Ian walker
Wow, now I just listened to this song again, and I am hearing instruments in the back that I have never heard back then on my old vinyl turntable... Peter was a master, I felt that again when I listened to this production.
I haven't heard this music only a couple of times off the radio 88.5 out of MESQUITE TX., But younger I played it all the time...Good memories, for sure....
I'm a little too young to have been one of "those" fans, but I had a kind of childhood crush on her - yes, I always did have this attraction to troubled women with big startling eyes
Thanks for adding depth this, 88. Her father was a Seattle DJ, I've been told. She must have lived there for a time. . . This song, I believe, is rich with symbolism, and imagery. As for who owns the song -- no one but Judy owns this song.
A little about this song... Judy Collins wrote the song 3 weeks before her father died. He passed away unexpectedly while she was on a concert tour, and she never got to sing it to him. Judy's father was blind, but raised his children well in spite of this, and Judy loved him dearly.
Hi Mr. Walker. Thank you for posting this song as it is among my favorites of Melanie Safka's songs. One song I can't seem to find anywhere is Love On My Mind or maybe it's called Love In My Mind. I can tell you that it was on the album Garden In The City. Is there any way you can post that song at all on RUclips? Matter of fact, is there any way you know how I can buy a Garden In The City CD? Thank you. James Wildlyfer.
Oh my gosh, this is a very late reply +Wildlyfer! I will try and do something about the lack of this track (in its original form, though a later re-mix is searchable here now) and get a video up in the not too distant future.
Judy Collins does such a great job with this song that it's difficult if not impossible to make a better version. And Melanie does not. But she comes very close. Problem --- if there is a problem --- is Judy is singing about her own father and she has the voice that makes you believe that she's seriously talking about something that really really happened in her life. Melanie is not invested in the song the way Judy is, and that's apparent in the result.
@@nickbyrne5871 Spot on Nick. Pat's comment is a bit like saying a folk singer can't sing a song about a battle with any commitment unless they have been to war themselves.
No! No! I totally don't agree. Pls take attention to the final 30 seconds of Melanie's version. Is it possible to sing like she does, if she has not invested in this song???
Magnifique, interprétation pleine d'amour et de nostalgie ! Bravo Mélanie
My voice since 1969-70. Also the world's voice. My music. My life. My father in this music. My feelings.

I fell in love with Melanie’s voice as a young boy. The love affair continues.

Just love Melanie..❤
Thank you for posting. I am a rusted on fan of both Judy and Melanie. As usual Melanie gives the song an extra dimension.
I love this cover and version of Judy Collins song. Melanie truly does make it her own I love the guitar chords and playing especially in this
She owns this song...
'I stayed behind, the youngest...' - I felt that for her.
A beautiful cover of a great song!
Melanie blows me away. There’s 4 people in our world that need to go to the moon and hide under a rock!!!
Love this......always will.......x
What wonderful memories,
Such a beautiful song. Strangely it always makes me think of my daughter.

소리 좋네요,....!!
This is a great cover. I am on the Facebook page and asked what was their favorite tune that Melanie covered. I have to say this is in my top 5.

Garden in the city , I bought the original vinyl of that. It had a scratch n sniff cover, believe it or not...
Nina simone makes this her own

Different styles, dude. They have different voices and approaches to tackling a song! Melanie can do a cover like NO one else.........

Glad I never had daughters 💋
Melania Trump sings so beautifully.
what an immature and stupid comment.
Are you mentally well?
Your father Savka, but not Safka!
It's a wonderful version...but so is Nina Simone's.
