I have this antenna since two years ago. Originally used it in the DR as a permanent outdoor antenna (which is not it's primary purpose) and it withstood the Caribbean sun and salty, humid weather for about 10 months, no issues. Now, in Switzerland, still my primary outdoors antenna and last night it withstood level 3 thunderstorms in an HOA environment. Amazing antenna! My next experiment is adding an additional counterpoise kit to improve performance. Will be posting a video about it soon. Txs Eric, de HB9HJU, Luis from Amateur Radio Outdoors
CHA Emcomm III's are excellent antennas! Worked Chile, Belgium, Netherlands, and Brazil from Maine with one hooked up to a 5 watt FT-817nd, 20 feet up horizontal between 2 trees last week. Lightweight and easy to throw in your bag and set up in multiple configurations. Chameleon antennas aren't cheap, but they are well worth the cost!
I’m a little late to the party by 2 years, but this was an excellent video to show how good the Chameleon Emcomm 3 portable is. I just recently bought one and I’m looking forward to using it with my Icom 7300. Bill, KC2KNA
I got this antenna a couple of months ago and use it a lot doing POTA/SOTA activations. Used it at Field Day and went back two days after the contest ended to take it down and bring my generator home. I realized that the counterpoise wire got clipped by the lawnmower of the ham who cuts the grass at the site. It was an easy fix thankfully. I also use it with my IC 705.
Enjoyed the video. I use a sling-shot, a spinning reel with a half oz weight attached to the line, and 3/16 " rope to hoist my end fed antenna wire into the trees. I also make it a point to never feed the alligators, while rag chewing on the lower bands.
You're right, you have been busy. Thanks for all your efforts. I really like your wisdom and experience topped off with a healthy dose of humility. You and Josh taught me about HAM a year ago and now I'm hooked. Both on HAM radio and HAM tube. You remain one if my favorites. I watch every video you do. Keep up the good work. PS you seem like a wonderful, fun Grandpa!
I love the wire Chameleon uses! Light weight, lays flat, and cleans up real nice for packing away in those radio kits. This model has my attention now!!
I have that antenna but have yet to actually SEE a video showing it in action! I haven't had a chance to use it yet - thanks for showing how good it is!
I like my Emcomm II for sure and kickin around the idea of purchasing another. I have the 66’ of wire on my Emcomm II but want to go to 130’ or 250’. Your Emcomm III looks like a good one! They are built to last no doubt. John
Setting expectations is important. ANY non resonant antenna with a balun that presents 50 ohms anywhere is inefficient. A simple dipole will kill the Emcomm III. It's just a matter of physics. That being said, I have one and I guess it's OK. Nicely made for sure. I think I am going back to dipoles.
Can you Test what you're standing wave ratio would be at 3975 megahertz? It is a cool antenna for sure. Also that is a sweet looking little radio. I have the IC 7300 but I just like the way that one looks due to the front speaker. 73, N8MJS
I am going to unsubscribe to the next youtuber who uses SWR to show how great a brand new antenna is, especially measured at the end of a long (and lossy) coax. I'm also waiting for some real-time comparison videos....someone? Anyone? Please???
We had a buddy pole and two other antennas similar to this at field day. They all tuned, but some had a touchy counterpoise. The trouble with these type antennas is you need to carry an analyzer or have a tuner.
I have the EmComm3 and the LEFS by Chameleon. I got a much better SWR with the LEFS in a sloped config than the EmComm3. LEFS was about 1.5-2 and EmComm3 I couldn’t get under 3.5 in any config. So if you have an IC-705, or a radio with no tuner, LEFS might be a better option.
Hi Eric, another great video. Thanks for doing this for all of us. I noticed in this video when you were using the AA-35 Zoom Analyzer and checking SWR's on different bands for this antenna you are testing out. I noticed what looked like very High Return Losses on some of the bands, even though the SWR readings looked pretty good. Is this because of the matching unit on this antenna? Does that create high return losses. My point is with that high of return losses not much power maybe getting out on the air, even when the SWR looks pretty good? Your thoughts on what I said? Correct me if I am wrong about the Return Losses I was seeing on the AA-35 Unit. 73, WA6TWJ Dave
I had a good chart but everything was off on resonance for all bands- not good. Almost seems like cable was not measured correctly when produced from factory. For Instance on 20M lowest resonance frequency was 16MHz- rather than around 14 as it should be.
Seems CHA EMCOMM III "Concept" is to mount Transformer end at access level and counterpoise wire along ground and wire up a tree or mast. Your Transformer End up a pole mounting is upside down but antenna doesn't know that its upside down ; ) Funny. . .
Chris you're a great guy educating the New Hams on your video you and Josh are the only ones that actually have Hands-On and setting this antenna up❤😊

Dude, I know! That antenna rules! I love it! Thanks for always being there, Eric. KJ7NUX

Good to see your still out there. Thanks for your knowledge

Please sign me up! Chameleon is the company of high speed, low drag…. Thanks for all the great videos!
Hello Chris love you Josh and Jason you three are awesome 💯
I have that antenna but have yet to actually SEE a video showing it in action! I haven't had a chance to use it yet - thanks for showing how good it is!
Dude thanks for the video! I was just researching this antenna!
Nice review Eric!
Any chance to win new gear is much appreciated. Thank you Chameleon!

What length counterpoise do you use for your emcomm ii? Do you use a line isolator? Thanks!
Great review. Thanks once again, Eric!
Like Luis I am using mine as my primary antenna set up as an inverted V feed point is about 10 feet off the ground middle is about 30 feet

SWR is nice but I’d love to see you make a contact or show some WSPR contacts
Will do

@@daveN2MXX I agree, SWR really means little. But for Hams all they know. Like to see test beside a dipole.

Love it new to ham so still learning
Great job Eric. 73
Great review as alway … get that giveaway vid up I want one . End fed not cutting it on 80 m .. thanks again Eric from Kg4VeT Ocala

Is there any advantage to having the Emcomm 3 over the LEFS?
It would be cool to do a comparison vid between your F Loop and this.
Awesome set up
I *have* to get my General, so I can justify getting one of these! 😂
Lol thats the antenna i use portably Eric. Whenever we do one of the qrp sessions i throw it up in a tree
Can I run the counter poise along the base foundation of my house so it stays undisturbed?
Love mine. Great antenna.
I gotta get one of those
I like the look of your spectrum scope! Can you give us the settings you are using? Thanks for another great video! Larry N2CPA
Sweet antenna and video!
Thanks for sharing - looks like a good antenna. Think it would work for a 'permanent' home installation alright?
Are you using an RF choke on this antenna ? I have seen people say you need one and other say you dont so i do not know ?

Eric I didn't know you were giving one away what do you have to do to win It 🤔
where the antenna purchased at?

goodness this is a cool vid
Looks like a serious kink near the top of your feedline.
Great antenna and great video Eric, thanks. VK3GEK

Just received a email about this antenna. Nice video! KJ7JIP.
