I remember that a mod called "Nightmare of the Mushroom Kingdom" was being created, which would basically be a mario.exe vs sonic.exe mod, but as far as I know the mod did not go ahead
I like to imagine that Sonic.exe is fighting Mario.exe Since he was able to kill BF and GF in his world but Sonic.exe couldn’t So He went to find Mario.exe and see how strong he really is…Guess he underestimate Mario.exe at the end
