I have very fond memories of this road. When I drove through the pass there was heavy congestion at the Gotthard tunnel, but the San Bernardino was almost trouble-free and you could even pass slower traffic at the two-lane section. I wonder if Germans do it on purpose.
Navigation systems like Google Maps usually don't propose an alternative route until you're close to the bottleneck. The San Bernardino is a 100 kilometer detour from Milan to Basel and you need to take the detour early (especially from the north), which GPSs don't recommend at that point. The San Bernardino route is usually faster if there is more than 4-5 km of queue at the Gotthard Tunnel (15 minute delay per 1 km).
The most reason why the A13 via the San Bernadino has so low Traffic is, that Lorry's are not allowed to pass through the San Bernadino Tunnel and on the steep 2 Lane Gradienst up to the tunnel. It's only possible to use the A13 by car or by bus. For example for the way Milano - Zuerich is it nearly the same weather you use the A2 Gothard Tunnel or the A13 San Bernadino Tunnel

Extra Good job🤝😘🎶🎵🎶 Wow. Great view, I love to see new places 👍❤️ Great movie 👍👋 Bravo 👋 And I have a new movie from a walk around the city 😊 Yours sincerely, DJ Janusz from Warsaw Poland 🇵🇱😘🎶🎵🙏✋
If you think the twists and turns of A 13 is something, keep in mind that there was a plan to build a railway across the pass from the terminus in Mesocco to Thusis - it was never built and the rails are now removed after the Bellinzona-Mesocco railway closed in 2013 (it was also partly closed earlier due to a landslide). Imagine that, a railway being closed in Switzerland!
That's correct. The Misoxer Bahn was closed some years ago it was allways run by the RhB(Rhaetische Bahn), but it operated many years only as a "museumsbahn" no regular service. Nowadays you have a PostAuto Service every 2 hours Bellinzona - Chur over the A13 motorway. In summer every 2 hours a stopping and a fast service. The Timetable is here www.fahrplanfelder.ch/fileadmin/fap_pdf_fields/2021/90.171.pdf
@@joelzumstein2954 yeah especially now that rails have been removed and lots of roads and roundabouts been built over the previous alignment. But nothing is impossible.
this road is one of the most dangerous roads in Switzerland. Many accidents every year because it's not a real freeway and also switching from 2 lanes to 4 lanes and back to 2 lanes makes it even more confusing. They should upgrade the whole road to 4 lanes.

Nice video. But that last long tunnel was looking strange. I mean it was a tunnel. Then you was a kind of outside the tunnel. And then back in the tunnel.
Well done!! Love this pass, as it is not as congested as some. Will we going through the tunnel, or no? I guess I will just have to wait and see. Thank you!!!
There are border checks but most of the time they just wave traffic through, I've never been stopped at the border over the past 10+ years. They usually check if you have a toll vignette and if you're not suspicious looking.
Honestly, this stretch of highway is really overkill for a 2x2 configuration. But still the Swiss like to spend money as the San Fedele tunnel looks like a landtunnel on the flat area just for environmental reasons? But even then the Swiss decided that one tube was enough .... But as usual impressive scenary and infrastructure. Nice vid.
A13 is the shortest and fastest road from Munich to Milan, which are some of the more important cities in Europe. However there isn't much in between, especially Eastern Switzerland is relatively sparsely populated. Even Chur has a population of only 35,000. I think they mostly built these four lane sections to provide safe passing opportunities.
@@EuropeanRoads Fun fact, government in Norway just opened up to build 4-lane roads with 110km/h on roads with 6,000-12,000 vehicles per day. This will in many cases replace the planned 2/3-lane roads at 90 km/h. The new motorways will be narrower and get two-tube tunnels, making them safer as you can use the other tunnel for emergency sitations (there is planned a lot more tunnels than we already have). The cost is higher though.
I'm hoping the next video avoids the tunnel and you go up and over past the small lake and down the snake on the northern drop. The fact you turn off at the end suggests that's what you did!
The man already posted several videos of mountain passes and rural Roads. It's just as interesting to shoot motorway footage to get a complete picture of the country.

WOW!!! WHAT A PLACE TO TRAVEL... THANKS FOR THE RIDE...

Bel video che mi fa ricordare gli anni migliori della mia vita e i viaggi in moto che facevo .
Just catching up on all your latest videos. Now that's what I call a highway. What a spectacular locale! I definately must visit here.

There are some plans to reactivate this line. But tbh these plans are more visions than it will once happen

Why these highways don’t have emergency line? Looks kinda dangerous

What camera do you use? So clear.👍
Yo! Do you have to cross border checks to enter Switzerland by car? And is it part of the European road network?

@@EuropeanRoads that’s good. Have you also considered doing the UK since we are technically part of the European Road System?
Theoretically there are customs checks, but that's done rather rarely. There are no person controls, since we are part of Schengen with the EU

I think it is 1.5 times faster, if you switch the speed of the video during viewing to half speed (0.5) it looks like the normal speed.
