The thing that was different for me was "the network." That is an aspect that I haven't seen in a novel before. I also wish you had explored the decision of (I have forgotten the character's names now) was it her Goddaughter(?) who grew up next door to whom Kitty left her fortune. That character was left with the decision whether to expose Kitty's truth or not because of the way the truth would affect the work and continued legacy of the network. I too highly recommend the book. It was a good read and a different look at the passing issue with some surprises I did not expect.

It makes me think as well how many of us get denied our blackness by other folks in the community.
Evelyn Hugo was a Latina (Cuban) passing as white. But, yes, this book made me think of The Seven Husband's of Evelyn Hugo and The Personal Librarian.
