Toyota Camry - Uncertified & Uncut Welding - Extreme Trigger WARNING!

- Опубликовано: 8 ноя 2023
- In this video I help a customer out buy saving her money on a simple exhaust repair. Toyota wanted to replace the entire convertor however we replaced just the flex pipe. It's easy, cost way less but you know how it is when a RUclipsr breaks out a welder 😉
-Enjoy!

Damn Straight!
that’s a risky job. your great welding & having every trick up your sleeve made it work. i’m impressed.
Loving your humour- your referral to the welder as a “comment generator” killed me. There will always be the Monday morning strategists if you put yourself out there. Thanks for all you do and keep them coming!!
Not gonna lie that joke went right over my head but now reading your comment I get it lol. Initially I thought he said common generator or something similar. I knew he was talking about the welder I just thought he was calling it some kind of electric generator as a nickname. I totally forgot about the critics in the comment section telling him he ain't doing it right lol.
Eric, as a certified welder, I can tell you that I work with people every day that do things 10 times worse than burning a small hole in material. The only reason I am certified is because it is required for my job. (I submit these welding coupons every year to these young "inspectors" that don't know what they are looking at....) When you are welding on thin material crap can happen. You repaired it and everything is cool. We all know that you don't have any training to do anything that you do; you have told us you don't. I don't mind you don't have welding certifications or that your fingernails are crusty. (I did a bit of research on psoriatic arthritis and I was fascinated by it.) I come here because I know you are going to do the right thing....and I am NEVER disappointed. GREAT VIDEO!
Just be reading this comment I feel like I am at least a level one now. I mean that's one more level than I was before I read this. As a certified welder and commenter would you agree that I am at the minimum a level one RUclips certified welder? Thanks for watching! 😁
@@SouthMainAuto I agree you are at a minimum level 1. Some of the people I work with couldn't do as good as mud dobbers. It wouldn't take much to get you certified.
@@SouthMainAutoit's usually the hobby guys that run their mouth the most. People who weld professionaly can actually see if the weldable target is a ... Fucking exhaust for a christ sake. You're too hard on yourself Eric, don't mind the arm chair people. I've had certifications due to my job and i see nothing wrong here. Love from Finland :)

$200 was a complete bargain for your customer. Well done.

Love how you go the extra mile to help save the client money!
It not just money most garages would ruin the car with a cheap CAT that struggles to pass emissions inpection or sounds crap because of the lack air gap in the downpipe
Gets done melting molten steel off with a torch,, runs his fingers on BOTH studs. We see the burning skin,,,on BOTH studs,,,ouch thats hot....OMG this man is priceless!! Love ya brother!!
"In the description I listed all of my welding certifications. The list is short and doesn't include anything." LOL Thanks again Mr. O. Love it!
Eric: "I'm not a certified welder", us DIYers with Harbor Freight flux core welders: "hold my beer"
I've seen some people in HF I wouldn't trust with a rubber screwdriver, let alone an arc welder. And I live in an urban area!
I'm pretty sure that he uses stargon shield gas and solid wire. No flux core at SMA, the only use for flux core is....I can't think of anything.
@@shith00kyeah, I have a 120v something welder at home with a tank on it. And I am one of the worst welders in the world. Mainly use it to fry on washers/bolts for broken bolt removal.
Are you kidding me? I use both solid and flux core all the time and FC is awesome. Much cheaper if you buy the wire in bulk, loads of penetration and you don't have to worry about drafts. Usually people who can't use FC have forgotten that you have to reverse the polarity (vs solid wire) or the weld will be brittle. Other than that FC is superb!@@shith00k
@@mph5896The only reason you say that is because you haven't seen my welding.
It boggles my mind that people would actually attempt to criticize you. You always do things 100%.
I'm not a certified welder but my buddy was trained how to weld by a certified welder and I watched my buddy weld one time.
More triggers than a gun range on Saturday. We need a whole video of nothing but welding, soldering and concrete pouring. Thanks for the video!
Don't forget always torquing things to factory spec. 😂
@stevewhite3424 oh yeah.... going to be a good video now!
"I wont sell you what you don't need" is a great repeat customer business model Eric!
Love wearing my SMA hoodie out here in Colorado. No one has come up to congratulate me on it yet, but one day they will.
I’m envious 😊
Plan A is to have a plan B. If that isn't the best advice when tackling a project, I don't know what is.
Few things are more enjoyable than watching a master at work.
Very true !!
Finally!!! A video where I can agree with your closing statement; "If I can do it, you can do it." I've never held a welder. But I'm damn sure if I did, I could blow a hole in someone else's exhaust pipe like a pro. It's so good to feel at one with you like this 🙂 Thanks for the videos, Mr O. Stay safe out there.
Certified not to charge the customer more than necessary by using torches and welding that works? That's a winning more customers formula 👍
I think you did better than 98% of muffle shop mechanics, especially with even replacing the little shield. Schmertifications be damned.
Eric O can weld circles around anyone else in the great republic of New York State! On a cold morning with the sun starting to rise all you need is coffee and a SMA video! Remember to put the Union Jack out today over the weekend! First the Birthday of the USMC followed by Veterans Day!
Occasionally you run across a job like this that goes smoothly and they're greatly appreciated!
Looks good to me. It doesn’t have to look great, it just has to work. Our impromptu motto at my job is “Hammer/grind it until it fits and paint it until it matches” lol😂. Great job as always my friend

@@billyounger9713don't forget a dab of bondo'

Mr. O. is just tripping all the Internet's triggers. Bet you didn't even unhook the battery before you welded on the exhaust! 🤣 Way to go saving this lady a whole bunch of money, good on you!
It should be isolated anyways because the front is off minus the tacs. Plus as he said in his last video they all have dead batteries lol
Ivan from PHAD had one recently where a dealer did some welding without disconnecting the battery and most if not all the modules were fried.
I was welding some body panels on a car and fried the alternator. It happens.@@johnt.848
"Plan A is to have a plan B" Great tip!!
Love how the welding helmets have improved over the years. Now you can actually see what your target is before you strike the metal and the lens switches so fast. The worst part is going to use it everything prepped and the batteries are dead. Welding on rusted vehicles is not going to look pretty sometimes but it can save the customer lots of $$.
I love seeing simple repairs like this one - I've been working on cars for over 40 years now and it's nice to see that once in a while it's still possible to do a simple repair, using a quality aftermarket part that is affordable, leading to a total repair bill that is well under four figures. That's a win for everybody!
Everything which looks simple is the proof of high skills.😁
@@crazyedo9979absolutely makes it look easy mans a genuine mechanic
I'm one of those guys who prefer repairing to replacing. The starter on my 04 Corolla died a few years ago so I pulled it off and tore it down to see what was wrong with it. As I suspected when it quit, the brushes were worn out. I ordered a $10 brush assembly because I didn't want to pay $175 for a remanufactured starter. 4 years later and it still works like a new one. I pity you rust belt car owners. My Corolla has 258000 miles on it and I am still running the original rotors and have only had them resurfaced once. The car is still solid.
I think what I like about this channel is the consistent, judicious use of PPE equipment while executing the work. 😂
Nah, he got to get passed it....
He I tipped my hat down and squinted....
One-handing the Sawzall while holding the work with the other was my favorite part.
Needs a sandblast type box with reinforced thick gloves.

Nice to see you care enough about your customers to repair things not just replace them.
After all his business is Automotive Repair am I not correct?
Love your comments, and "Certifications" Eric....
The whole video had me in stiches. Your tacky humor is by far the best. That o beam welding was solid. Always look forward to a Eric O video.
“Tacky” lol
Tacky in a good way though right? There's a good tacky and a tacky that has no business in busyness.
Like socks with sandals tacky...
"Shave and a haircut, 2 bits" is always the perfect gauge for whatever you're doing. Snugga duggas, horn honks, volume adjustment, knocking on doors, you name it.
Impressed you tacked the flex-pipe skid plate back. You didn't need to and plenty of peeps wouldn't have bothered, but the fact you did so shows the quality of your work 👍
I'm really impressed with these generation camrys. My sister has a 2012 with the 2.5 @ over 400,000. I've done a water pump, a set of bearings all the way around, and many many brake jobs on it. Other than some fluids and other maintanence, a battery replacement, and a headlight courtesy of a deer, it's served her wonderfully for the last 8 years.
I checked your qualifications and they seem far superior to mine ( Apprentice welding certificate from British Rail 1976)🙂
The way you saved those threads was slicker than deer guts on a doorknob.
Triggered!!!
You STILL didn’t pour any concrete!!
Oh, well. I enjoyed this video. I like to see you just get in there and get ‘er done. Nice!!

Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks :)
As a self-appointed vice-president of Shade Tree Mechanics and Rickety Weliding Inc. I approve of your certifications and the quality of the completed repair. Carry on sir and weld away anytime you so desire.
Pretty telling how many armchair welders evaporate like a morning fog when you start having fun at their expense! Great episode!
Mouthwrenches tend to evaporate pretty quickly. 😊
It’s a pissing contest. Talk about laying shingles in 11 minutes and 7 seconds😂 or concrete, welding.😂
Nothing entertains me more when someone welds publicly on the internet and it immediately attracts welding gawkers. And it's welding in particular, always the welding, interesting phenomenon.
“That was my nickname back in the day 😂😂” had me rollin
" Plan A is to have a plan B" quote to live by. Once again you showed us, your a master of the torch. And MIG

Love your welding. It's better than mine. I remember MANY moons ago repairing the exhaust on my 1964 Hillman. At the dealers, and told them I wanted a new muffler. The guy leaned over the counter and said: "The whole exhaust is ten quid". That's was about 15 American dollars. I had a whole new system next day. Took me about 15 minutes to replace it. Cheers, Eric
“Give it a few tacks with the comment generator!” Thank you Eric, that is hilarious!
The comedic commentary is the best part👍
Doesn't seem fair that your not inflating your customers cost... Not! That's because your honest! That's the true professional and good for you. You keep us all proud!

Your confidence in me being able to do it, amazes me everytime. It is greatly appreciated though.
"it's in the book, trust me" always makes me laugh. Good stuff my man! :) I think you're a fine welder.

Thanks for the part number. I have to do this to my sons Camry. Thanks for the video Eric.
I’ve never welded anything in my life. I’m quite sure if I did, I’d be spending the rest of the day speaking with an arson investigator.
Nice job and a great deal for your customer!
FANTASTIC !! My Welder friend told me don't ever worry about a hole. You can always fill it in... You did an Amazing Job!! Love the torches, Welding and going to the junkyard!!

As an armchair welder, your weld looks great
What kind of armchair are you using that requires welding? ;)
@@MiloLemmy lol
I've been a journeyman booger welder for most of my adult life and I can say with certainty that you've got nothing to be ashamed of there, young fella.
Weld? What weld! I didn’t see no sticking weld 😂 I watch a very good and trustworthy auto tech perform a verified repair to a customers vehicle. 😁
Back in the day we never had helmets with automatic darkening lenses, I could do that job with a little flip of the helmet and start the weld all at the same time. My certifications are Journeyman First class with interprovincial red seal, B-pressure and mig small bore pipe. You did a nice job being some over head in all.
You've given me a few fixes for my rust bucket NYS Silverado. You saving people from rip off dealer expenses is second to none..!
South Main Auto.. The customer is going to love saving money on that repair. And hey the weld looks like a certified weld to me.
I recently did the same on a Ford Fusion. Flex had been disturbed during a motor swap. Shop wasn't taking any responsibility for it, nor did they even tell the customer. She brought it to me to check their work. Not just the obvious exhaust leak, there were other issues.
Anyways, I contacted Ford. $1600 Canadian. Ouch.
Got the Walker flex from my local NAPA (not a sponsor). Around $200 complete. Happy customer.
Fix the problem and send her down the road! Eric you should tell the viewers the ballpark cost of the OEM parts compared to Aftermarket parts! Just to show how crazy the manufactures are when it comes to repair parts!
Always appreciated guys willing to cut and weld on an exhaust system. Saves a ton.
I liked how you used the comment generator to restore the deflector shield to be fully operational.
Now the vehicle is "concourse correct" within available limits.
You see, the deflector shield helps keep Klingon grass from jabbing and hanging in the flex pipe braiding.
This is good fire prevention in the case of a high speed chase, or malfunction that leads to catalyst overheat. And off-road usage.
Thumbs up, yep, two thumbs.
You're my spirit animal , Eric O.
I wish I could do what you do. You should be decorated, next time we reach a star base or host a rear admiral.
his fingers give off smoke "oh that's still hot" then proceeds to grab the other. Love it.
OMG Eric! 95% of what you do is almost exactly how I used to do things and I 100% approve. But clipping the welding wire on those beautiful vice grips @ 10:03 is a cardinal sin. It'll take me at least a half hour to get over it.
What a guy helping out the community with your skills even if they are short or non-existent. Very funny this morning Mr. O.
I have a PhD in removing crusty exhausts from 1980s volkswagens, you did a fine job here.
Absolutely enjoyed the video. "Comment generator" I almost spit coke everywhere 😂. Your humor is awesome, and you're down to earth, humble. I always enjoyed working with like-minded smartalecs. Stay safe, and God bless
Always a pleasure to see a real mechanic doing his stuff. I've been fixing stuff right, the first time, cost-effectively, for 5 decades, and IMHO, you're one of the two best car guys on YT.

I loved the comment about going to the car show..
Love your videos and cost savings approach to repairing a customers vehicle.
Welding and cutting and Kroil oh my!
The first thing the Concours d'Elegance will look for is that missing heat shield. Good catch.
Loved "your plan A is to always have a plan B" 😀
Eric, you’re in rare form today. I like your funny comments and by the way I was very satisfied with your welding certifications. A much more affordable repair than the two grand that the Stealership would’ve charged!
as ever eric pleasing to the eye great job as always and you saved the customers pocket ...
I find it amazing how inexpensive this kind of exhaust work is. Given how awkward this would be to do at home, with no lift, the cuss jar would be full within an hour. Even with a welder and skills, I might get a pro to do this for me anyway. But where's the fun in that, ha ha.
I live in Wisconsin. I could drive out, sight see beautiful upstate New York. Stay a couple days in a hotel. Chit chat with Mr. & Mrs. O and drive back to Wisconsin for less than half what the dealer wanted for that fix. Great job Eric, love your vids.
I have no problem with what you just did, I have done it several times myself as well 👍
The only thing I would highly recommend is wearing some type of gloves. I've done some longer weld sessions without gloves and have gotten "sun burns" on my hands from the UV light coming from the welding, not fun especially when you have to continue working for the rest of the day.
Sun burn is one thing, holes in hands/arms/thighs is another. Molten metal spitting/dripping off the job takes a while to cool off as it goes through layers of skin and flesh. It also stinks. Ask how me how I know.
Always great videos Thanks
Love a good reverse trolling
I love it precision flame wrench work is awesome!
Thanks 👍
@@SouthMainAuto I ask myself, who would be triggered by your repair skills? Only those who never get their hands dirty can criticize? Remember if Eric can do it! I can do it too!
Your welding was on point. The sound was perfect, and the length of time it took the weld to cool told me that you’ve created an even bond. As an example, if you tack something and it cools faster on one side or the other it tells you that you didn’t get good penetration to that side.
I always laugh at the “if she takes it to a car show” line
This vlog lacked your trademark screwdriver through a rusty cross member but saving the lady owner a packet is laudable.
As someone who couldn't weld to save my lunch, looks great to me!! Not triggered!! LOL!! Great video and savings for the customer as always!!!
I do a lot of “back yard” welding so I’m certainly no expert but Eric is a very competent welder IMO. Thin metal is always the trickiest for me. As you saw he burned through the bottom of the pipe - which I suspect is because it’s thinner there due to water/rust. If I had done that job I would have burned through in half a dozen places :)
Ahhhh, your weld was ok, I coulda done a whole lot worse!👍👍
Awesome stuff Mr. E! 👏
The best mornings are new, SMA videos, and fresh coffee
You actually weld better than an exhaust shop we used to use. They used a stick welder and there were a few come backs. We sent a lot of flex pipe replacements to them.
