They don't remember the crappy years from before, when it was a miracle if Seahawks made the playoffs. He got to the playoffs 10 out of 14 years, and surprises everyone last year by getting into the playoffs without Wilson at QB, so then everyone raised the bar for no good reason. I expected this year to be exactly what it was, and then make the jump next year.

Does a new HC, particularly a first time HC want to come into a role where Carroll will still be there in an “advisory” position. Would they be a new HC or just a proxy. Someone like Vrabel would be confident and strong enough to maintain his own vision for the club having been a HC for 6 years already, but with someone new like Johnson is there a risk of mixed messages?

Something WAS going to change - mgmt/owner group agreed with Pete's plan to continue the "reset" by replacing some position coaches, and then fired him a couple of days later (see his press conference as evidence, etc.). By changing more than that, the rebuild will now take longer but also just is stupid given his contract only had a year beyond this anyway and he could have more gracefully left. The "owner" (she's really only her brother's trust admin) and Schneider don't impress without PC there.

After a couple days, listening to the Sports Radio guys, and reading lots of articles, to me it comes down to this. The team is not improving. It isn't just that we went 9-8 (same as last year) and missed the playoffs. After last year's 9-8 and getting blasted in the Wild Card, significant changes were made. Yet, this team did not show growth throughout the season. We were horrible against the Steelers when there was so much on the line. When the staff can't get the team ready for a game with that much at stake, something is wrong. In spite of a LOT of roster changes, we still wallowed. Think about the D for example. We went out and got a new DL with Jerron Reed, DreMont Jones, Mario Edwards, drafted Cam Young, and then brought in Leonard Williams. We brought back Wagner. We grabbed Julian Love, Devin Bush, and drafted Witherspoon. Yet the defense was STILL horrible. On offense, we brought back Geno, added arguably the best # 3 WR we've had in ages (JSN), upgraded RB # 2 (although we let Penny walk) with Zach taking snaps instead of Dallas. We brought in Evan Brown at Center. Yet the offense was no better. So, in a season in which we should have felt some kind of upward trajectory, we watched them fall flat. Sure there were a couple of great wins, but when Pete cited how close they were to being an 11-12 win team, I thought he failed to consider how close we were to a 10-11 LOSS team. Plenty of last minute heroics prevented that, but you can't live on that alone. Rolling the dice with a new HC is always risky. We've seen plenty of big names fail to produce. But it was time for something different here.

I think suggesting that Carroll won with Holmgren's guys is disingenuous. The Legion of Boom, Beast Mode, Wilson, etc. were Pete's guys, and I don't think those teams make the Super Bowl without those guys. There was a 5-year gap between Holmgren's last year with the team and Carroll's first Super Bowl team, and Carroll wasn't here yet for the first of those years; Jim Mora was. I also remember there being quite the roster overhaul between when Mora was fired and Carroll took the team to the Super Bowl a few years later, including the guys I just mentioned.

The job of the head coach is to set the culture and strategy, NOT run the offense or defense. That's why Pete should have been given one more season to fix the coaching issues and execution with the defense, and he had already stated that as a point of focus. Now there will be chaos and the fans don't realize it. When you make a complete change, you are looking at 3 years before it stabilizes again and good luck with that.

As Mina stated, the players that played for him talk about Pete different than any others - that they would run through a wall for him. The game - which as fans like to point out is more about the Jimmy and Joes than Xs and Os - has therefore not passed Pete by. Given the 10 playoff appearances in 14 years, 2 SB appearances with a win, and only 1 losing season, he should have able to plan his exit.
So-called fans that say the game has passed him by don't get it themselves. The PLAYERS current and former enjoyed playing for him and you heard Pete say "the league is not about the owners or fans, it is about/for the players". And that's what it should be first, but fans are rabid and don't care, and don't have any real appreciation for good coaches or player legacy. Pete's players gathered with him that night to reflect and celebrate Pete - even Russ dropped everything in flew in, which should say it all.
Did the roster underperform? Not really. And if it is a roster issue then Schneider is more culpable than Pete! We know they were in a rebuild even if Pete called it a reset, and so he should have got the 3rd year in that process to see if the talent really is there. He wasn't given a chance to fix it, and then gracefully bow out if he didn't. Again, given the 10 playoff appearances in 14 years, 2 SB appearances with a win, and only 1 losing season, he should have able to plan his exit. If I was interviewing for the job, I'd look at that, look at the ownership situation (she has to sell the team soon and pass the proceeds to charity), I'd keep on walking to somewhere else. Not to mention, that Seattle really IS South Alaska when it comes to media focus, MVP voting, etc.
There is always a strategic plan in good organizations, and it doesn't sound like the possibility of Pete leaving this year was in that plan. This feels more like the owner - who inherited the team and relies on others for advice - reacted without a plan. The evidence for that is also in that they apparently don't have anyone lined up to take his place. Word has it Quinn says he is staying in Dallas (but after their early playoff exit who knows), and there is no way you can bring Harbaugh here! So who is it?? If you go with a defensive coach, it makes no sense and yet that's their flaw right now, Some said it was plan to draft Penix and bring his coach Deboer with him, but he took the job in Alabama. Truthfully, most college jobs are more attractive than the NFL. You could go after Lincoln Riley from USC, as Brock Huard has mentioned, but you aren't going to get his QB in Wiliams that just declared for the draft and expected to be pick #1. So good luck finding anything that makes sense and actually works.
FYI - I'm serious about Harbaugh. If he comes here, I'll root for another team. He doesn't belong here and he's a crazy dictator. Who tucks a sweatshirt into their khakis, LOL....

Yes, it was time to move on from Coach Pete, but your assertion that Pete played players against each other is f--cking b--llsh-t. Pete always protected the team, even to the very end. The Legion of Boom was aging out dude. Luke Wilson, was in the huddle[ being the tight end], during the that fateful superbowl, and he said that Russ changed the play to a passing play, then f--cked it all up. I also want to move on from Geno, but calling him a bum only reflects poorly on yourself. Geno is well respected, both as a player and a man, in the Seahawk lockerroom. So, picking arguably the best reciever in the draft at 20, and Witherspoon at 5 is squandering our picks? I don't f--cking think so. And about that QB thing, we won't be drafting a QB high in the draft cuz our next QB is already on the team. His name is Drew Lock. John Snyder absolutely loves him and probably sees huge, untapped potential. As do I.

@Richard-il6wc Not sure what that is about except for Jamal having to play Love for his starting spot with the Eagles game. Love beat him out on Wednesday. That's what Pete would do vs. sitting Jamal down and telling him he's lost it or he's hurting us right now being on the field tiring out and trying not to get hurt again.

ALL coaches in NFL have issues connection with many of the new young players - because the new young players are changing from college that kissed their butt to the Not For Long league where you do your job or get cut. Pete did better than most, as he was a great college coach himself before the Seahawks. The real issue is a fake owner (a trust administrator, who is obligated to sell the team at some point), her advisor, and Schneider wanted to be in charge.

Let's be honest jamal adams was the reason for this. Pete traded the house for adams and completely changed his scheme to fit his strengths and jamal completely destroyed us in every single way on the field and Pete's refusal to acknowledge how bad he really is and was on the field. made both the fan base and management question his judgments. Jamal was the worse decision in the history of this franchise

So, Pete was a victim of his own success. He makes the playoffs without Russell Wilson in the midst of a "reset" (i.e. a rebuild year), so everyone goes crazy with unreal expectations this year. They also had one of the worst seasons for strength of opponent this year and we knew that going in. They had a different O-line every week due to injuries and lost their best pass rusher on defense as well. Somehow they still get a winning season? That's actually good coaching, but the average fan doesn't have a clue.

There's absolutely NO WAY Jody Allen will succeed in "keeping Pete in the building." He took the high road in his press conference, but there was nothing mutual about her firing him, and it is clear that he did not and does not accept the reason(s) she gave him. He will be hands-on with the GM until he makes sure all his coaches land safely, but after that, it's sayonara. He'll never speak negatively in public, and he'll be back for whatever honorary ceremony they do. He might even go along with some sort of "consulting" charade if it's required to the best possible cashout. But nothing more. It's not necessarily WHAT Jody Allen did, it's the WAY she did it and the way it's being handled. Pete has more than earned having Jody Allen show up and lead the press conference by starting with a testimonial of gratitude to him for all he's done for the franchise and the legacy he's built there, and she should 100% own her decision and leave him with his dignity.
