- Allison Kinzer discusses the possible misconceptions, stereotypes, and challenges that gifted students may face. She gives insight on how educators, parents, and others should broaden their attitudes toward those considered gifted.
Allison is a 6th grade student at Acera School, a STEM school for gifted students. She pursues passions in Model UN, programming and photography.

The two most accurate ways I've heard giftedness described is by Allison Kinzer and a tumblr post explaining the struggle of growing up gifted. The problem with being gifted is you're learning everything out of the natural order that everybody else uses and then you're struggling with things others learned awhile ago. It's frustrating and it's difficult to deal with, but hopefully it's all worth it to everyone.
Gifted child
Got till 12 tonight to get an assignment done on gifted kids as a gifted kid. Had 2 weeks to do it now I’m pushing all my work into the next few hours.
Haha I’m in danger.
I do the same thing!
Update: got a D on the assignment and I’m currently failing the class.
@@rayy__7630 boy do I feel your pain the only advice I can give you is STOP procrastinating you'll eventually burnout from all the stress you put on yourself. I'm a senior and depressed at the moment. I'm on medical trust me dude not worth it.
Same! I'm also gifted and procrastinate to the last minute lol
Ahhh. Lol. I do that tooo. Im sure you did it and got the best grade or w/e...
Giftedness is like gifts in general: usually the Giver removes the price tag first.
Is humility what you are hinting at? Would you please reveal the riddle?
I understand that more like the price tag being the "challenges" that gifted people have to go through :) Yes it is a gift but at what cost ?
I love that analogy!
@@shoudaogao6953 It means you don't know the cost behind the gift, ie the difficulties or disadvantages giftedness brings with it
Perfect metafor!!
thats my best friend ily
I bet you were born in china
You are lucky to have such an amazing friend like her. I hope you are okay.
Amazing talk💕 You go girl!
The sound quality wasn't as good as usual, so this was sometimes hard to hear. That's unfortunate because this information is important!
A beautiful talk!
Allison was in my 5th grade class.
im 12, i know im inteligent, i just wish i was gifted, because maybe that way people would hear me a little bit, hear my ideas, its sad, just sad, they won't hear me until i have a picture that says " im certifieing this girls gifted",
I'd actually like to hear 'em out, also other people shouldn't bother you bro.
Your brain works differently when you're gifted, all right, but sometimes it's not obvious how to deal with one...
I don't support the idea of "multiple intelligences", only fluid intelligence or G. It is rather skills, not intellect. It helps to have high intelligence to learn skills. But being skilled does not mean you are intelligent, it means you are skilled in a skill. You can learn a skill, but you cannot learn to be intelligent. Intellect is something you are born with and shaped with the development of the brain, based on psychological stress and intake of nutrients and stuff.
U baka
The know it all label is particularly hurtful.
When all factors are normed only one intelligence remains G. General intelligence.
The multiple intelligence theory is a poor attempt to soften the news that differences in IQ exist between individuals, genders and races and in developed countries IQ is 80 genetic and 20% environmental.
Is it though? I think that bodily-kinesthetic is a bit unusual to list as "intelligence", but other than that you could imagine being highly above the norm in one category and much below the norm in another. Only if strong correlation between all of these can be shown, it would be more useful to throw the concept out and instead go with a single number G; expressed as a "G=x, except for disability Y and Z" model in the ones who don't fit.
Good luck proving that. Based on what I have roughly observed, I would disagree. If you come from a not-well-off family, chances are your iq is going to be lower. If you smoke dope, your IQ is going to be lower. If you spend too much time trolling on youtube, your IQ is going to be lower.
I think a lot of people are misdiagnosed as gifted. Just high IQ does not make you gifted. Nor does excelling at university make you gifted. There are very few gifted people in society and the stigma might be casued by overdiagnosis of "giftedness"
Is this girl considered gifted? She was essentially reading what you would find in textbooks and professional papers on the subject.
I bet you were born I china
Yes, she's probably gifted, has done her research, and is speaking out to help the whole community.
So basically what she' s saying is that you don' t have to exceed anybody in anything to be considered gifted???
Paracletus Revelation What she is saying is that labels don't matter. Because a student has low grades doesn't mean he/she is not gifted. Similar to that, because a student has high grades does not mean he/she is not gifted.
A student that has low grades that is gifted could have low grades because simply, they are not challenged. This leads to boredom in which they do not want to participate as they feel it is an insult to their intelligence. BUT their low grades do not define their ability to solve problems (or iq).
Oh, and hi :P
Anony Mouse exactly. It’s a different wiring of the brain. This proves the issue we face - people’s lack of understanding of this neurodiversity.
Multiple intelligence theory has been debunked many times.
She just talked about Multiple Intelligences, sub-genius.
You're off in your own Private Idaho.
This girl was probably born in China
