    Traveled to Surat for almost 7 years because of work and as an Expat. Became friendly with several locals and businesses owners , enjoyed their friendship and hospitality. Great local seafood and will take the ferry to Kohl’s Samui. Swasdee

    Great video. I lived in Surat Thani for a few years and the one thing I will add is that there isn't just one night market. There are many, though most of them are on specific nights of the week but if you're there it's worth asking where the other markets are - As you can see, there's many friendly faces and there's also quite a presence of expat teachers who will show you around or give you advice if approached.
    There's some good food stands down by the waterfront, where you can also catch the night boats to Koh Samui, Koh Tao and Koh Phangan. It's definitely worth visiting if you're in Thailand and heading down in this direction!

    Im thinking about traveling to Surat Thani next month ive never been to the south of Thailand before i was thinking goeing to Phuket first .
    But i saw Phuket was even more touristy than Bangkok or Pattaya was and it was expensive aswell this however looks more affordable and relaxed .

      @houmanrosie  Год назад +1

      Yeah Phuket is quite touristy - personally I enjoy Samui more than Phuket. Surat Thani is a nice quiet local town and a short boat ride away from the beautiful beaches of Samui, Phangan, etc

    Well it looks like any other provincial city in Thailand really.

      Not really. Most provincial cities aren't close to the beach. And the ones that are close to the beach are touristy, except perhaps Hua Hin.

      He's referring to Mueng Surat Thani (the city), not Surat Thani (the province, state). The only reason most travellers go to Surat Thani is to take the ferry to Koh Samui, Koh Phanagn or Koh Tao. They only stay in the city for a day or so in transit. So, he's trying to tell people that this city deserves more time and perhaps is even a destination similar to the islands but a whole lot less touristy (i.e. better prices, no crowds). I'm going for 5 days next weekend to scout out the city as a possible refuge location when the smoke season hits Chiang Mai next year. I'm getting tired of 3 months of being trapped indoors due to poor air quality, and while Southern Thailand also has air pollution during that time it's a lot less than up in northern Thailand. Originally was considering Phuket, but rental prices there are out of control, due to Russian army draft dodgers, LOL. Can't say I blame them, but personally I like the "Thai" vibe of Surat better than Phuket, which reminds me of Los Angeles, wall to wall development only the hills are nature. Surat is surrounded by Nature and jungle with wild animals.
