I would have to agree with you on that one. He's definitely picking up a lot from Neil and some of the guests. I imagine he is probably doing more research on his own and of course that's just speculation. Either way... Love em both. Dr Neil deGrasse Tyson is or should say he was the catalyst the inspiration for me to get back into astronomy physics and everything quantum. I love it. Confusing a fair amount of the time but I love it.
I wonder what Neil would call a Blood Moon if he could rename them? 🌙🤔 Also, what do moons with thicker atmospheres and different surface structures/materials look like from other planets? Awesome episode btw, I was thinking about this just the other night while taking a walk after dinner, cheers!
Grab a paper. Whenever the moon is up in the sky, make a hole of its size. Whenever the "big" moon arises, it will feel like it will exceed the margins of the paper. Place the paper in front of it. It will magically shrink and perfectly fit the small paper hole. Mind blown.
I keep saying this to people too. Funny to see them confused. Then when I explain we all stand in an xyz coordinate in space, it just has an atmosphere because we are standing on earth, the give me the grunt and the eye hahaha
The chemistry between Chuck and Neil is magical. Chuck is the kind of guy I'd love to have as a friend -- very intelligent and very funny. And of course Neil is just awesome.
Neil deGrasse Tyson, Thank you so much for this video! I would love to know more about craters and marias. (I do not believe in young earth), but I read recently that some who believe in a young earth argue that marias are proof that the moon is not billions of years old because it would have craters everywhere without an atmosphere to protect it. I'd love to hear your thoughts.
Wow. I enjoy this. To imagine everyone sharing an illusion seems wild, especially, with no drugs involved...& while seeing the sky, from between one knees, as we bend forward, & look. BaddaBing! Thank you!
That’s incredible, I love where I can see the ocean and I still get those huge moons. Does even having other reference points in your Peripheral vision cause that effect?
I do remember a night in july riding in the James Bay road at full moon it was so bright that I could drive with out any light we could see almost like in day light.
My dad as a pilot told me that the red moon/ sun was from forest fires in our area. And a big white ring in the sky around the moon meant it would snow the next day. Or at least be cold enough to snow.
Hate to admit this.. but I never knew who chuck was before getting with Neil 😅 but I want to see him do stand up comedy so bad it's unreal 🤣😂🤣 absolutely hilarious
So say, for instance, the moon-on-horizon is taking up the same width (in my vision) as a nearby building... and then I look at the moon while I'm upsidedown... does the moon miraculously take up less space in my vision?
My name is Yoshikage Kira. I'm 33 years old. My house is in the northeast section of Morioh, where all the villas are, and I am not married. I work as an employee for the Kame Yu department stores, and I get home every day by 8 PM at the latest. I don't smoke, but I occasionally drink. I'm in bed by 11 PM, and make sure I get eight hours of sleep, no matter what. After having a glass of warm milk and doing about twenty minutes of stretches before going to bed, I usually have no problems sleeping until morning. Just like a baby, I wake up without any fatigue or stress in the morning. I was told there were no issues at my last check-up. I'm trying to explain that I'm a person who wishes to live a very quiet life. I take care not to trouble myself with any enemies, like winning and losing, that would cause me to lose sleep at night. That is how I deal with society, and I know that is what brings me happiness. Although, if I were to fight I wouldn't lose to anyone.
In my opinion the reason why the Moon looks bigger on the horizon is called the magnifying effect which means like if you take a magnifying glass and everything and you bring it over something that is very small it will appear bigger in the magnifying glass that happens with the moon coming over to the horizon since we have an ozone layer we have different layers so we have different magnifications through each levels of the ozone layers so when it comes over to the horizon and is a convexed ozone layer so it's going to appear a little bit more bigger when it's coming over the crescent of of the ozone layer so it appears bigger but then once it starts going up it looks smaller and smaller and smaller you know it's a fun house mirror effect and the process as well you see something that is not really bigger than what it is but yet you're not seeing something smaller than what it really is it's it's just been illusion and itself caused by convection as well as I'm manipulation it depends on how you look at the Moon depending on your altitude as well
Neil is wrong! So in the video Neil says there’s no blood moon anymore. The earth’s sky is much clearer. Then what have we seen today?! November 8th - blood moon as it is! Either Neil is wrong or help me understand what’s happening anyone please.
Take a picture with your camera and it looks small too. But why does a harvest moon look so large in a field with no trees or anything in the background?
I have a question for you. I've seen/read articles where scientists say that life can't be on a planet because of this, that, and the other thing. Do you ever wonder if there are civilians out there that look at our planet and say the same thing? Like, "look at all that water and how bad some of those storms are. There's no way life can exist on that planet."
btw I heard that the moon appears to look larger at the horizon because of atmospheric lensing...... That being, because there is more atmosphere between you and the horizon than ground level to the upper atmosphere so more gasses between you and the horizon would cause more of a magnifying effect to enlarge the moon's true size in the heavens than the thinner layer of atmosphere between your position at ground level and where the atmosphere ends directly above you.
I know one person who'se brain thinks like that and its shaquille o neal, the nba player. He once explain to Charles Barkley that concept about his own depth perception about how he sees the moon when he is looking up, the moon is closer to him than the next city from where he was... his point of view is insane, might explain how he plays so good... xD
The moon reflects 12% of the sunlight that hits the surface. As for it affecting people...I think studies have been done and I don't believe anyone can perceive a full moon. There are people working in hospitals that will claim they get alot more people come into the ER during full moons. I suspect since full moons make the night brighter, more people are outside doing dumb stuff than when it is darker outside at night.
What's up with the out-of-time thing? :P I don't think RUclips would punish you if it was more of a 30m episode. There are so many other things he can talk about.. even the more recent discoveries that the moon is full of caves or that it's more hollow and rings like a bell. That's not even half of the things I've heard about the moon, and most of the things he talks about are earth-related. Still, this was a great video and I did learn a few new things as always :P
Does geographical viewpoint of lunar eclipse effect the color of the moon, assuming different parts of the atmosphere have higher pollutant concentration?
