Gorgeous, such a beauty in Gene's voice and his songs. The whole Gypsy Angel album is heartbreakingly phenomenal. He was a gifted singer / songwriter and my absolutely favorite. He fills my life with so much soul and joy and was truly so special, like no other.. ♥️
Whenever I pick a Gene Clark CD off the shelf it is Gypsy Angel,a beautiful album of stripped down demos ,Gene with acoustic guitar and harp .He was always my favourite Byrd, over shadowed by the talents of McGuinn and Crosby but this album shows he had so much more to offer,God bless you Gene.
Gypsy Angel has at least half a dozen potential standards not one of which has been recognised as such. A heartbreaking pantheon of aching existential beauty.
I think Gene gets more recognition every year. It's true, though, that in his life he never reached the acclaim he deserved; his solo career after the Byrds was muted. But so many great songs and what a voice. A side note: I've read several places that the Byrds didn't know where his lyrical skills came from--he didn't read and wasn't well educated, but the spirit certainly moved through him.
The whole gypsy angel album are demos and they are beautiful,if you only own one Gene Clark album then this is the one you want.Gene singing "day for night" will just tear you apart.
Gene was first and foremost a singer of folk ballads. He could do a lot of different stuff, but this was his best element. When I think of all the singers who haven't one bit of this man's talent who make millions of dollars while he toiled in relative obscurity it makes me sad. Most people don't know what good music is. They are simply suckers for the marketing.
Wonder at his majesty, Gene's genius never diminishes, thx a million for flying the flag high Indigo & i have just discovered another song of gene's I've not heard its called "All For Him (Or Her)". It came out on Sierra as a single in 2016 but i believe the song is circa 1964?
Thank you! Yes, "All For Him/Her" was from 1964. It was on a bonus CD from Sierra Records' Gene Clark: The Lost Studio Sessions 1964-1982. It was one of the songs I played on the premiere podcast of "Gene Therapy", the Gene-Clark.com podcast found here on RUclips and on podomatic. ☺
Thanks for posting this. I had never heard it before.
I Am Blessed with More than One Muse, Gene Clark is My Most Favorite

Agree about the album. But disagree about the over shadowed. This guy was a higher plane of song writing .

Um dos maiores compositores e cantores do século XX ... Sem medo de errar! Grandioso Gene Clark.
