    Abandoned & Forgotten Places
Documenting abandoned mines like never before!
Let's take abandoned mine exploring to the next level!
With your support you can help make this the best abandoned mine exploring channel on RUclips!
Shot entirely in 4K! ...so, turn up those video settings!
On this channel we go deep... REALLY DEEP into abandoned mines and tunnels all throughout the western United States. We researched some of the harder to find mines and hiked or 4x4 back into them to explore and reveal their hidden secrets. Many of these remote locations are filled with cool artifacts, antiques and unique geology that will have you guessing as to why the old prospectors worked so hard to find gold, silver, and other minerals.
A&FP moves just a bit slower as compared to other mine exploring channels. Gly discusses why the miners chose these sites and he points out the geology and minerals that got them excited. Veins of quartz filled with gold and silver made many men lose sleep in the 1800’s and early 1900’s and modern prospecting still does to this very day.
DANGERS? Oh yes, there’s allot of dangers associated with old mines. Un-exploded dynamite, blasting caps, bad air, bats, spiders, and snakes all find their home in abandoned mine shafts and tunnels. Oh, and let’s not forget rotting timbers, flooded passages and collapsing rock!
Gly takes abandoned mine exploring seriously with all the proper safety equipment, training, and experience necessary to do this activity as safe as possible but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a bit of fun along the way. “Gly”, your host and his band of crazy characters “Old Bob” (Gly’s Jeep), “Quackers” (Gly’s duck) and “Bobbie” (Gly’s hula girl) are sure to brighten your day with their comments and silly antics. Heck, they may even give you a chuckle or two.
Just like Saturday morning cartoons before the internet was invented, Abandoned and Forgotten Places uploads each Saturday at 7:00AM PST. (that’s 10:00AM for you eastern folks) so don’t forget to click that subscribe button and bell icon to receive notifications of new episodes!
Please LIKE, SHARE, SUBSCRIBE and COMMENT! All these things help grow our channel and your financial support helps us find new locations and helps put fuel into “Old Bobs” tank. Old Bob, thanks you!
Ok, now for the ugly stuff...
    WARNING
Abandoned mines and ruined structures have many hazards and can severely injure or even kill you. Do not attempt to copy or re-enact situations or scenarios seen in this video. Stay Out and Stay Alive: • Gly Says... STAY OUT S...
NOTICE This video and all commentary therein including comments by the viewer is for entertainment purposes only and not intended to be instructional.
Whew! You made it this far? Good for you!
    Now enjoy the channel!

“Gly”: A little over 4 years ago when the channel was just getting started I documented Swansea in Episode 7 Part 1 and 2 but I never did a deep dive into the history of this site. After days of research I learned so much more about this sites extensive history and it really shined a light on how big ideas can quickly turn into even bigger failures at the expense of so many others. Enjoy!

This was OK but I liked the original soooo much better. The POV camera angle made it feel like I was there. Drone footage is OK but you can see most of that on google earth now. I know you don't seem to like criticism of drone footage but it's really just so "meh". Some of the drone footage of you walking around the countryside or up hills was pretty awesome and really put things in perspective but that's about it for me. Your personality and the way you told the story was what set you apart. You're likable. People like you. I wish you'd go back to your older docu making methods. Actually I think you should go to all the popular places that everybody goes to but do it your way. Those POV walk through videos with the explanations were captivating. My favorite one may have been the one where somebody left a skeleton in a lawn chair. There were a bunch of sunglasses "For Sale" on a table. That was an awesome episode!! That has to be five years old and I definitely remember it. Few youtube videos are even close to memorable but that was. Or what about the one where you went up through the "escape route". I think that might have been the best one. You should leave a link to the original episode from way back. Maybe put it in the pinned comment. Ask your newer subs to view it and give you feedback. Was the original one with your mom and there was an abandoned, half rotted bank?

Almost 40 years ago now myself and a few friends managed to find ourselves out in that area and had a look around. Glad to see there’s still a lot of the old stuff still laying around & not carted off somewhere. Your drone footage of the area showcases just how massively large that operation had become , and it shows the true testament to how much hard work and effort the work force accomplished with the limited resources and tools of that era . Thanks Gly as usual for my Saturday morning entertainment here . Stay safe buddy .😎👍

What a great episode! there were no underground workings that could be explored, for obvious reasons, but the history of the site and the mines that were built, succeeded or failed and the timeline involved was a fantastic thing to learn about and gave me a broader understanding of the times and the people who lived in the various hey days of the region. I love learning, and I think I can speak for many of us here, that learning the History of this area was fascinating and being history lovers is part of why many of us watch this channel! Thanks "Gly" for the essay on this site/region and for the obviously time-consuming effort it would have taken to sort it out and link all of the people to the location and all of the other happenings of the time. You did an excellent job of this episode. plus the Drone footage in, around and through the remnants of the buildings was another bonus. You're also getting better at Piloting that little drone of your and I hope you didn't have to do any retakes of the flythrough! LOL 👍🤙

Hearing the plight of the miners not being paid and their meager wages for the dangerous yet important work they were doing is; yet again overlooked and under appreciated. I have deep roots in Arizona, particularly in the Clifton/Morenci area both to mining and cattle ranching. A lot of history is lost because as each generation comes and goes the stories aren't passed down.
Keeping these histories alive is important. All those men and women living and working in the mines across the west, forgot by their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. People that had hopes and dreams living life the best they knew how. Imagine the stories they had to tell, the hard work they we at the least indirectly benefit from.
Gly thank you for this history. One day I'm gonna track you down and buy you dinner and a good Scotch Whiskey.

The working level of this mine is at the 500 and the top of the water table is at about the 400 so when you stand on top of the grates and look down the shaft you see nothing but water down there. Also, at one time all the main shafts were collared but all of that timber was removed to be sold off or repurposed for other mines.

“Gly”: Recently, I found an aquifer map of Arizona and this area sits over one of the larger ones. That’s why they grow so much alfalfa down there by Wenden and that’s why Alamo Lake is always full. One has to use their imagination and draw an imaginary line underground at the level of the water of Alamo Lake. As you move north towards Swansea, everything at that level and below is under water. Yeah, many content creators ignore their comments section because of the trolls but I’ve got a thick skin, not that I don’t want to reach through my computer and ring a few necks from time to time, but hey, that’s the world we live in now.

Now that was awesome to see and hear about all that was done there great job Gly i really injoyed it, to bad the mesh is tiny you can't get a camera down the shaft it would be interesting to see how much water is in the bottom of the 1000 foot shaft, just saying. Be safe my friend.

“Gly”: The water is sitting at about the 400 foot level and the primary working level was the 500. When you look down the shafts through the grate you see only rock walls with no collar and no side drifts all the way down to water level. I found a workings map of this site and the workings are immense down there but I wasn’t able to use the image due to copyright issues.

There's only two maybe three decent drone pilots on RUclips and your number one Gly Maverick, Such ease as you glide through between those buildings but I "expecting that" and would have been disappointed otherwise

“Gly”: For many, it’s very difficult to learn “fluid movement” when it comes to flying drones for cinematic capture. Thanks for the compliment! 👍

Hi Gly !!! I agree with you 100%... If you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all. I also personally would prefer the underground content, BUT love the channel either way and will continue to watch and look forward to your Saturday morning post's. And you seem like a good dude as well !!! Quick question, I've been wondering.... Are you running out of interesting mines to explore ?? I realize just in the West (I'm in Orange County California) that there are literally thousands of mines, buuuutttt.... I'm sure lot's are sealed off, caved in, full of water like this one, don't have much to explore (Like who wants to see someone walk a couple hundred yards straight in and out) and many being just not even close to "safe" to even enter or whatnot, plus many more reasons I won't list !!! I mean how many not only unexplored, but interesting mines can be left out here ?!?! Uppercase, lowercase, in... any f-in case, I dig your channel !!! (no pun intended). 😋

“Gly”: Even though I get pushback for it I like to cater to my entire audience and a small majority of them like episodes with lots of history. Truthfully, these episodes are a pain in the butt and require twice the amount of time to produce and only get half the amount of views. However, nobody on RUclips or anywhere else for that matter has ever produced a complete history of Swansea Arizona and it’s a project I’ve been meaning to do for a very long time. So, even though episodes like this tends to ruffle a few feathers within my base, I’m still happy I did it. To answer your question: I have documented every large mine in western Arizona and there’s nothing left that I haven’t seen. Sure, there’s still a few small ones scattered about but they are not very interesting. Central Arizona, especially in the mountainous regions is very difficult to explore since much of it is private land or, the roads to the mines are way too treacherous, even for a capable Jeep. I don’t explore south of I-10 for obvious reasons and the mines in SE Arizona are so scattered, there’s not enough in one spot to produce 24 episodes in six months during the winter season. This is why I enjoy Nevada so much, the mines are plentiful and many have never been documented. The area you speak of, I consider that TVR’s territory. Justin enjoys those types of mines and as you know, I enjoy the dry ones instead of the wet ones because the artifacts are typically in much better condition. There’s still plenty out there to document, it’s just not as “target rich” as it was when I first started this years ago.

I gotta say.... Ur a great guy !!! Thank you for taking time to thoroughly answer my question !!! If I wasn't a lifetime subscriber before, I DEFINITELY am now, I sincerely appreciate that. And I'm glad you didn't take my input the wrong way, not saying in the least that I didn't like your history episode, I watched the whole thing, with all the stuff to watch on RUclips, that says something right there. I'm guessing the Sierra Nevada mountains are just too far from where your located ?? Or the one's in Mojave desert ?? For about 35 year's my pop's, brother and I went yearly up to June Lake area for opening of trout season, we've missed the last 6-7 years because my pop's is almost 80 now and not mobile enough to enjoy it anymore 😞 But I heard about some crazy mines up in that area. Unbeknownst to me... We drove past the turn-off for Cerro Gordo every year !!! Anyhow, I appreciate what you do and enjoy your content for sure. Thanks again for your reply, that question has been on my mind for quite some time.

This man has been doing a show a week for how long and has brought you information, education, and entertainment. All in a place the majorityof viewrs i am guessing would not go.Nor do they have the knowledge to do so. Its not my cup of tea for a straight history run but, its notmmy channel. Nd Gly needs to try and capture his audience's likes with one show a week. This was not an easy production. You try and fill drone footage for that amount of time and research a location to then put that into the videograpphy. He matched old picture's to the same angle as the now empty landsscape sits the mountains lined up. I say good job i like the in the mine video also more than a full historical view but...i respect Glys need to cover the viewrs that. Love that history lesson. I would say good job Gly, but its not my channel so i say great job using new techniques and variety of information and history. Love that you still see this as projects. You want to do...and not just what everyone thinks you should do. Much love. Welcome to Nevada. ❤

“Gly”: The abandoned mine exploring genre on RUclips has become very predictable and that’s why people’s interest in it has somewhat dropped off. From time to time I like to switch gears, it keeps things interesting for the audience as well as myself. It may have not been enjoyable for a few but this is the very first full history documentary of the Swansea site that’s ever been done.

“Gly”: I know where every abandoned mine and ghost town is across the entire western US and that comes from 30+ years doing this as a side hobby. The problem isn’t finding the mines, the problem is the logistics behind getting to them but I’ve developed a pretty good strategy to deal with that.

I see some of you don't care about history and like to say some dumb shit about Gly.
Ya just can't please everyone 😔
The man has explored just about everything in that region. What the heck do you expect him to do about that?
Anyway thank you Gly I thought it was wonderful. I learned something new and if it wasn't for you doing the documentary on it I would have not known and it would be just another thing tossed out in the ditch to be forgotten.
