I DESTROYED This Rug During The Wash !

  • This rug was past its best and was falling apart at the seams during the wash. I was as careful as I could be to not ruin it anymore. The glue at the seams deteriorated and the edges came unstuck. Once dried it can be re glued.
Do you think it was worth cleaning it ?
Let me know in the comments.

Is a nice rug....but the thing is it needs a lot more work to it then just cleaning. I can't really see the quality but the cost maybe don't way against the price of the rug?

Either this rug is OLD, poor manufacturing or very, VERY poor conditions, yeag. The rug was already gone. The staining from the blue soap was confirmation enough (the fibers breaking down can be more absorbent).

Don't be so hard on yourself, James. You worked your magic on this one returning it to it's former gorgeous piece. It's only the binding that came apart which is totally fixable. For the DIYers some heavy duty fabric glue (not hot glue) would take care of the issue. Or some iron on adhesive tape. Also the option of having it professionally rebound is available at carpet stores. You never cease to amaze me with the quality of your work. Great job!

I turned on this video at bedtime, with every intention of falling asleep to the soothing sounds of white noise and water, only to find myself watching every minute of the cleaning process instead. This is the only channel that could convince me that I'm not wasting time watching a rug be cleaned. Love this channel so much! Really wondering what our area rugs would look like if he got to them since they look clean, but I can guarantee they'd probably be nastier than I'd like to admit. This rug is beautiful and beautifully cleaned. Amazing job as always. Looks like it only started coming apart because it was no longer being held together by grime. Definitely not any fault of yours.

I take my metaphorical hat off to you, James. You truly are a miracle worker! I honestly thought that this one would beat you (especially after you'd said that you'd 'destroyed' it!). Then I thought that you'd stained it beyond rescue with the Smurf juice (not my description, though I wish I'd thought of it, as it's rather brilliant 😂). But you don't let anything beat you. I bet you're really, really stubborn! 🤣🤪
In answer to your question, yes, that pretty rug was absolutely worth saving. I'd certainly have it, no problem, especially knowing that you'd cleaned it. Ok, the binding came apart, but some judicious application of the correct glue will soon fix it. Well done for sticking with it and giving a poor abandoned and unloved rug a new lease of life!

I have never in my life seen any rug that has been so caked with mud (let alone so uniformly) as any of the hundreds of rugs you show every day. I think I might have to travel 100 miles to find ONE rug that is that dirty. Where the hell do you get these rugs from? Trash? Hoarders? Cowbarns? What are the people doing with their rugs? It seems unlikely people would have this rug in their living room the day before it arrives.

I was skipping parts, but watched the fabric closely after every circle. Cos I wanted to know what you meant with "destroyed". And I still miss the part that you call "destroyed". Do you mean the bottom of the backside where the edges came apart?? This is totally fixable, either with needle and thread or fabric glue.
This all is about fixing stuff, instead of buying new. May be that it needs some extra work after drying totally. But worth it! Beautiful pattern!! And awesome job!

It's quite a lovely rug. All it needs is a binding to be right again. 😊

What a labor intensive project ! You brought something that looked like the underside of a square of sod (earth worms and all !!) to a sweet floral accent rug ! What was the actual time spent on this ? Was the client pleased ? Your skills are amazing !
    Thank you for sharing !!

It came out beautiful as always. You didn't destroy that rug, it was falling apart before you even started cleaning it.

Hi James it would be awesome if you could show some extended clips of you emptying your sump with the pump every now and again, also equally as awesome if you could show an occasional clip of you making your suds in the watering jugs would also be instantly satisfying!!!
Love your work, the videos and your editing style….love your setup in there with all the quality squeegees and machines! Keep the content coming!!

Where has this post been lol, I was looking for member posts this week and couldn’t see any, it’s only just popped up today 😳!
Well, that was an achievement and a half! I thought you were going to turn it inside out at one point lol! That would have annoyed me sooo much, it would have gone in the bin!! Bravo for carrying on sir! 🩵🩵

I finally had to look in the description because seriously, you didn't destroy it if it can be fixed, you just cleaned it. The customer that let it get to that point is the one who destroyed it and you made it so it could be salvaged

I can't believe people let their rugs get this dirty.
But you make them look brand new in the end.

Hi James, many rugs like this are tufted on fabric and then glued with Latex to a stronger backing, Latex breaks down over time and that is what happened to this rug along with horrible care by the owner, you worked your magic on this and it looks incredible now and a new backing can be glued on to make it like new after it dries, use Latex for this as it was originally as latex will remain soft and flexible for years.

Me seeing the worms on the carpet in the start:
    *dies*
    *remembers*
*comes back alive so i can see the cleaning process*
But still, I enjoy your videos and hard work! Keep it up!
