  • California has seen record rainfall over the past two years and has had numerous landslides that have destroyed some of the coastline, making Highway 1 no longer passable when traveling up the coast. We drove down from Monterey and explored as much as we could before reaching the end of the road. This video is not a “top ten” or “best places” type video, it is just what we actually saw and experienced on an average day on the coast. #explore #californiacoast #highwayone #pacificcoasthighway #bixbybridge #travel #travelvlog

That stretch of Highway 1 is gorgeous. For people who love a drive along the coast, it's hard to beat. I've stuck to the highway, stopping at the few turnouts with space enough for a few cars to park. The road is high above the water at certain points, so you get to see so much of the Pacific Ocean. I get to see plenty of forest where I live, so I don't usually go inland to the forests and trails.
Along the drive, there are elephant seals, the little town of Cambria, and Hearst Castle, the opulent home away from home of William Randolph Hearst. You get a bit of California scenery, flora and fauna, a touristy but quaint California town, and California history in one trip. If you get up really early, it can be a daytrip out of San Francisco. If you have 2 days, you can stop for a bit at Santa Cruz, Monterey, and Carmel.

It was pretty cool seeing the coast highway with the fog! Definitely different that what I have seen when watching big productions on it. What time of day did you go? Early morning probably gets the most fog. Love the videos!

Thanks! We got to Monterey by noon and we were at Bixby Bridge by 1:30. We knew it was going to be foggy but we assumed it would clear up by midday. We were wrong lol
