You should start a new series called 'The Facebook Marketplace Collection,' where you can only buy and sell on facebook, seems like an interesting idea
Back in the 90s South Park ended it's season with a cliffhanger on who is Cartmen's Father. The next seasons first episode ignored the follow up and instead gave the fans a random Terrance and Phillip episode. Now I have this feeling again. I have been waiting for the continuation from last Thursday's episode.
I like to look at my collection as a secondary savings account that I get to look at and enjoy, rather than it just sit in a bank lol I do the same thing when I need money.
I personally can't see prices going down all that much anytime soon, especially for the Pokemon games and other franchises people are attached to! For example, I have Pokemon Emerald complete in box and its sitting at $570 CAN on pricecharting and it just keeps going up! Last year I think it was around $450 CAN or so and I was thinking of selling it but honestly now i'm not sure it will ever go down in price
I work next door to goodwill her in Arizona, and found amazing things. Best thing to do is ask the staff when they stock! Rick, most of your goodwill visits are picked already. With the picture in your room, use small mirror panels, and led lights to create depth and make the room look bigger!! I found $100-$1000 games right of the cart when they bring them out! Saves a lot of time! Also what exactly is your real job?
The grind is real man, I’ll find something worth getting at my local goodwill maybe 1 time out of 10-15 visits. Consistency is key man, love the channel
Someone else already commented this but I would strongly recommend blackout curtains for the two windows as this will increase the intensity of the glow from your LED strips once attached to B2TF print. To the left and right of each window you could put up mirrors. This would give the illusion of more space to your game room (and shouldn't be too expensive either). Last, across the very top, I would find some retro poster books that have smaller 8X11 size tear outs and line them up going left to right. Back in the 90s I filled every inch of my wall space with action figures which gave a varied, detailed, and interesting look to my bedroom. Left a bunch of small holes in the walls of which my parents were not too happy with but it's nothing a little putty can't fix. Anyway, love the channel! Keep producing these great videos and I'll keep watching them.
Love the new retro life episode and seeing some more of your collection! Would be cool to see some of your toy collection - like focus on Nickelodeon or something one episodes.
That is one of the perks of this "hobby", you took four games from the shelf, boom, thousand bucks you needed to fix the house. I did that, at the end of last year, I sold some video games I didn't care for, but had good value, 400 bucks almost out of thin air. Today I actually decided to get rid of some of my controllers, went and traded them in at a second hand store in town, got store credit and got a new switch pro controller I wanted, I only had to spend like 8 dls. So, clutter and 8 dollars for a new switch pro controller, definitely not bad.
$10 Collection was amazing but I hear you. And your point was obviously proven. The selling topic is important to touch on. My lord, I’ve really considered doing a clean sweep and starting over. This stuff is worth more now than ever and with emulation and console collections, we don’t need the physical media. But I’m SO attached. I’ve had a lot of these since the 80s.
The led is a great idea . I actually do that with the portable battery’s from Walmart. It s basically a little 5 dollar power bank. I’ll Velcro it to the back or top so you won’t see wires
Sorry to hear about your flood damage. I had a pipe leak into my downstairs dining room and had to have that repaired 2 years ago. So I def know the feeling.
I like the idea of this new series called Retro Life! Definitely run with it please. Another great video. 🔥 Sorry to hear about the flooding and damage to your floors. Excited to see a full game room tour in the future. 😊
Always check every section of a thrift store, and here’s why: toys and electronics: vintage toys, video games, DVD, VHS etc; always check the plush toys, you never know if you will find a My Pet Monster or other valuable plush; paper/office supplies: Trapper Keepers, sticker books, etc.; bedding: vintage TMNT sheets; books: vintage Transformers, TMNT, MOTU etc; always check puzzles and board games, you never know if you might find a vintage Ghostbusters puzzle Picture frames: vintage prints and posters Check every section of the store: sometimes things are placed in the wrong section of the store Collectibles/under glass section: obvious
Pokemon prices are completely out of control right now. You'll see one sold listing for $100, and then the next sold listing of the same game same condition will be $200, and then back down to $100, and then up to $250, and then back down, so on and so forth. People buying Pokemon games right now couldn't care less about getting a deal and it shows. These games are all extremely common.
Great idea for a new series 👍 Can not begin to imagine how stressful it could get having to find games for the $10 collection ...love the series already :) Definitely going to look into my collection and see what I could sell off 💯
Hey man, you've probably mentioned it in other videos before, but is there a reason you don't put your series title and episode number in the video title? I get that you have a playlist but it's nice when I click on a video to immediately know which series it's a part of and what number it is, as sometimes I miss prior week's episodes and get confused since they aren't numbered. Anyways, keep up the great work, love the new series idea!
Hey! Its actually extremely intentional...theres alot of data showing that putting in shorter titles without series numbers/titles helps with the algorithm! Great question and thank you for tuning in!
I had the SSX plug and play as a child. This is honestly what I come here for is to remember some memories. large sums of time spent playing it with my cousins.
Loved the walk through of Goodwill. I am in Canada, close to the border and miss going down and thrifting in the US! You hit all the spots I usually hit except you missed the sheet section. I sold a number of 1980's/1990's sheets for $15-60 each and pillow cases for $10. Check for Smurfs, Disney, Looney Tunes. Keep up the good work!
I sold my ps2 to my brother and had traded all my games for store credit had a lot of heavy hitters but like you said I wasn’t really attached to them! I acquired a Switch, Wii, Ds, and 3ds with awesome game to start a whole new collection! Great video man!!!
I'd probably find a way to try and hang a basket or some kind of thing like that on the wall. considering it's behind the couch it would be cool to be able to just set controllers or remotes or such in there
I really enjoyed the perspective of showing the everyday because you’re right, that is the reality of hunting to buy and sell. Anyone that feels like that is wrong hasn’t put in the effort and time to do it. As for the flood, that really sucks :( hard to sell games but better than going in debt to do the renovations.
Sorry to hear that, that happened to your basement.Have you tried putting flex seal around the outside of the house to stop it from happening? We did that around the outside of our house and knock on wood its been working for a few years now.
I sold some Magic the gathering cards to put a down payment on my house so I know it can be rough to part with stuff but being an adult and maintaining your even better investment (house) is definitely more important
@@retrorick oh I still have a lot of fancy cardboard rectangles but some of the really good stuff from the 90s is worth soooooo much money. Its hard to justify keeping it when cards like the dual lands can be worth over $1000!!!
Your home is not an investment. Rental properties are investments, but your personal home loses value over time. I'm not saying that selling the games/cards was the wrong choice, but it's easy to screw yourself over by being duped into treating your house like an investment, because by and large it just doesn't work that way.
Love your room! My game room is maybe just a little bigger and I was thinking of what to do with my 32" Sony Wega which is just sitting in the corner not used as I do not have the space. My room is centered around a 100" projector screen with theater system sound with a 55" 4k HDTV on the side with a small 20" crt tv for retro gaming with a couch in front as well. But your room set up is giving me some idea for my retro station! My rule for collecting is, I only collect items that I will actually play.
Rick, love the Back To The Future Delorean picture. Perfect for the room and the right size too. And although it sucks to have to sell some of your stuff for home repairs, how great is it that you have the ability to do so? I mean you don't have to dip into savings or get a loan and personally, I think that's great. And I think I can speak for everyone when I say that we will be happy watching anything you want to film. Whether it's buying games, movies, toys, or really anything at all. It's your enthusiasm for what you do and your great personality that makes your channel so enjoyable. So basically if you're happy we're happy!
I think your wall would look great if you painted a strip underneath the picture black and add the two flaming tire tracks leading up to the pic. Wow mind blown! Either way its awesome Rick!!!
What people have to remember as well over in the US is where most of the great cool items are . Over in thrift store in UK and charity shops they put all their good stuff on there online eBay shops , you rarely find anything decent now over here in them . That's not taking away tho what a very good channel this is! Your items you find are superb 👍😊
Love the large DeLorean print. It's perfect on that wall. The only thing I'd suggest is to get some light blocking curtains on those windows. UV light kills collectibles.
@@retrorick hey Rick, what site do you use to sell your games and how do you know the value pricing for them? I'm considering selling some of games, but I want to ethically sell them.
I know the feeling of selling your collection, 2 years ago I've been through that, years ago I was struggling financially, so I had no choice but to sell my whole collection, there are some games that were played & some that weren't. I remember collecting retro games was space, time & money consuming. Even till now without my retro collection I'm still a happy man.
Great video and content, thank you. And as far as selling items to fix your house, just be glad you have them items to fall back on. No shame in doing that, could be a lot worse. Thanks again.
I like the simplicity of the DeLorean print on the wall. It's a nice break up from all the crowded shelves. Also it's always nice to cash out of games that don't mean anything to me to either get some extra cash or use that money to buy more.
Your right to check the cds for ps1 games at goodwill. The best find I got was Resident Evil Director's cut for 2$, among a few other ps1 games for 1$ each. Goodwill is a great place. I find that the dealers dont always look there as they are usually out of the way. I always find something when I go in. For your next series I really like seeing the vintage toys/memorabilia you find at the markets and thrift stores. Again great content, you are always fun to watch :)
Have you ever thought about ditching or selling the black shelving units on the back wall there and going with bracket shelving with wood shelves cut to size so that could stretch all the way from one wall to the other, but still a good depth? Make the best use of your space? Just an idea, it's what I do with my own collection and I really like it.
Game finds have been slow lately but the local GW now sells VHS for 20 cents apiece. At that price it's pretty easy to flip stuff! Found a Kiss movie that's worth $20-$30, a handful of others in the $10-$20 range, .....and 6 Beavis And Buttheads that could go for $50ish as a bundle!
I work at a goodwill, there is a good chance that they are sending there games to a goodwill store they sells the nicer items. Could be in the same city or with in 50 miles.
-That's a good conversation to have, cool vlogging day, it started snowing here again after it melted lol. -Cool watch man. -I think Nintendo nes stuff especially isn't going down more than just specializing, but loose stuff is dropping. Sorry to hear about the leak, I know the pain. -Good luck man
What I would do with that wall with that back to the future print I'd put a few small shelves that don't stick out to far and but back to the future memorabilia around it and put the hover board over the top
Between that Transformers shirt which I own myself and the BTTF Delorean poster that I want, you may have convinced me to sell my games just to keep up. I kid, but it was a great episode.
Hey Rick did that goodwill used to be a circuit city? The building design totally resembles it! Plus it's too big to just be anything else. Or maybe an old target
I agree with selling to get what you need. I’ve done the same in the past and it has saved me from having to borrow money. The pandemic has definitely drove prices up and they will eventually go back down once things go back to normal.
I live in Vegas and the market is so bad for used games. There's so many people and so many "re-sellers" and technology is so big that everyone is familiar with eBay and Mercari etc. so everyone on fb marketplace charges eBay pricing.
Also most of the Goodwills put their stuff on the auction website unfortunately. The finds aren't anything amazing honestly, like today I found an Old Skool Dual Analog Wii controller, two oem Wii Nun-chucks, two 3rd party Nun-chucks, a Nerf Wii steering wheel, a 360 black controller with white battery cover, and a 3rd party PS1 controller. They wanted $30 for everything and I know that isn't the worst deal, but I asked for maybe a few bucks off bc everything was pretty dirty and had marks all over em. The manager on duty said they don't do discounts on anything bc it's already a good deal(lie, plenty of people get discounts at goodwill when they request it) so I didn't grab the two 3rd party Nun-chucks or 3rd party PS1 controller and it went down to $15, so not too bad.
Wow i have never in 37 years ever seen a goodwill with such great stuff everywhere you look like the the one in your video. I don't know where you are but man you sure got hooked up. When i go in my goodwill you would be lucky to find dust.
I know this video was a year ago or so but I'm catching up on your other videos and just yesterday I found the Back to the Future Trilogy in the box with the extra VHS tape. The first Back to the Future Part 1 was not opened and sealed from the factory. I think that will be the first tape, actually anything, I'm going to send in and get graded. Or at least check it out. Thanks to your advice on your videos. Thank you very much.
I have Pokémon heartgold but just the cartridge. Little bugger costed me $70 just the cartridge and he’s got it complete in box!!! Crazy deal man amazing luck!
When can I come to the game room and do some shopping? Also, completely agree with your philosophy, this is why I (for the most part) only collect what I will actually play. It keeps the collection manageable. But there are some games that you know will appreciate (I'm looking at YOU Limited Run Games Shantae!) in value that it makes sense to invest in sparingly.

I’m sorry you’re going through that. I think about liquidating my collection at least three times a year. lol
I love the joys of home ownership. Half the people watching will never know the feeling 🤯🥺
I definitely don’t see prices for these old games going down lmao but I’m not sure if they’ll keep increasing as time goes on
Have you ever thought about ditching or selling the black shelving units on the back wall there and going with bracket shelving with wood shelves cut to size so that could stretch all the way from one wall to the other, but still a good depth? Make the best use of your space? Just an idea, it's what I do with my own collection and I really like it.
You will find them again... I sell some stuff every now and then , part of collecting, they come they go, I do have certain things I won't sell tho..
its crazy how you refind things when you think youll never see it again
Love the canvas but with the lights you mentioned, I can only see it look nicer.
I think some color coordinated (with the print) black out curtains or some kind of covering on those 2 windows would look great
Get a big mirror for the empty wall Rick, instantly double the collection 🤪😂
We also miss Hastings I spent so much time there. I still have my Hastings card and live in Amarillo Tx where Hastings started.
My OCD tells me it needs to be centered a bit more ha ha. Awesome picture Rick, Much love from Australia bro.
You gotta do what you need for family though so I respect that.
I kid, but it was a great episode.
haha sounds like we would be really good friends
Hey Rick did that goodwill used to be a circuit city? The building design totally resembles it! Plus it's too big to just be anything else. Or maybe an old target
I got super excited when you unveiled the print. Back to the future is my second fav series after Star Wars. So I’d choose the same thing!
Great finds I'm after a watchman currently for my collection. I had flooding couple years back had to do same .
Dude I just ABSOLUTELY LOVE your channel!! You have great taste and its inspiring to watch this channel thank you dude!
I love that all your sound effects are game sound effects🥰
Good stuff man. I get to live vicariously through you lol.
haha glad you enjoy the channel Bret!
I agree with selling to get what you need. I’ve done the same in the past and it has saved me from having to borrow money. The pandemic has definitely drove prices up and they will eventually go back down once things go back to normal.
You could always sell items from the $10 game collection! I’d sell that stuff first.
true...im trying to hold off from doing that until i finish the series! Thanks for watching Alex!
When i go in my goodwill you would be lucky to find dust.
haha that stinks man...yeah this goodwill is pretty great!
I didn't know eBay has a built in barcode scanner
That helps a LOT
LOL
feel like I learn tidbits watching your videos all the time
Really enjoyed the pace of this, kind of blogish but more polished. Keep it up bro 👍
So glad I have held on to the games I have. I wish I had never sold any games as a kid.
i sold some real gems back in the day
Wow, I sold a complete copy of soul silver about a year ago for $250 which was the going price at the time. Prices are peaking right now
I know this video was a year ago or so but I'm catching up on your other videos and just yesterday I found the Back to the Future Trilogy in the box with the extra VHS tape.
Crazy deal man amazing luck!
that game is so expensive now days!
Nice!! Hope this new series does well!! 😀
Clicked as soon as I saw that notification, love retro games and love the vids
so glad you are enjoying the channel...thank you for the support!
Awesome choice for the wall. That delorean print is amazing
