Hi Dave, if you plan on exploring any of the major Hawaiian islands a car rental is recommended. If you are planning to hang out just in Waikiki and then you can avoid that expense along with the parking fees by just shuttling in from the airport. Many mix their days between Waikiki and exploring so if you are looking to save $$ then consider getting your rental only for those days. Enjoy!
