This has always been one of most favorite pieces, but the one thing I find to be very interesting is Respighi's handling of the orchestration and how beautifully he is able to use various instruments to it's fullest potential in creating a masterpiece that will be with us 'till the end of time!

Respighi's music reminds me Debussy and Ravel in the first Fontana. Quite soft, tender and sweet. I love it!!

This must quench the dryness of the soul of busy modern people

A giant of the repertoire; performed beautifully. Maybe when we die; if there is a Heaven - that is it.......

By the end of this the conductor looks like he's been in a fountain...

It must be an incredible honour and pleasure to play in the foremost orchestra in the world's capital of artistic, philosophical, cultural and political analysis and debate. Or so the Parisians would have others believe, and they do put on a pretty convincing and determined performance of that claim.
London may, indeed, perhaps surprisingly, have more front rank orchestras, but the level of public debate and philosophical and political acumen is just disgraceful compared with Paris, or Berlin, Rome, Naples, Venice, Prague, Moscow, etc, etc.
I haven't heard the Fountains of Rome for a while, and one can discern how much Respighi had been listening to Strauss' Ein Heldenleben and Alpine Symphony, in the Trevi Fountain.
Respighi is a genius, and belongs absolutely in the same class as Wagner, Rimsky, Stravinsky, Strauss, Puccini. Infallible judgment in orchestration.
    Love, andrea

Not comfortable with the mixing at some moments. Otherwise, orch plays well. Director seems to grapple a tad. Just sayin', from being in the bizzness.
