Ivan sir. This is by far one of your best one out there. It was funny because every new turn that came up I was talking to the screen, do this or do that and you did. I must be getting use to you. What I mean to say is, you really follow through here and your thought process was right on the money, especially with the problem with the Scanner itself. Very well done and very well execution of completion. Each step was perfection. Not many people out there can think on their feet. I hope you follow up with Launch and GM and this also proves why more than one scanner is needed to diagnose cars.
I wonder, you have an autel scanner, does it have a BT connection as in the 906bt model. If so, does that react with this vehicle in the same way.
Really Ivan, thanks for sharing this one.

Ivan, I noticed the same glitch with the Launch within the GM program. I'm using the same scanner on a 2016 Chevy Express. Besides the buss communication issues, I also had issues with the Special Functions (steering angle reset and brake position calibration) on the same vehicle. Steering angle reset would complete successfully but wouldn't actually do anything. However the Brake position calibration seems to be corrupt as it fails due to a AC pressure too high fault. For what its worth, I contacted Launch within the scanner, sent them the vehicle report and described these issues. Hopefully the next GM update will have this addressed...

Launch BT dongle might add a just bit more capacitance / inductance to the HS com line and thus the fault. The actual fault might be the GMC / GM designers. There should be more tolerance for signal distortions.

if the dongle/tester has no cable or a short cable, try adding an OBDII extension cable with a big choke on each end. That gets the silly dongle spewing wifi/bluetooth RF and RFI away from the connector, it could be noise entering other bus lines causing modules using them to go stupid or even the can bus itself.
corded tools, same can happen and leaky ignition systems can really whack things out, don't ask how I know :))

  • @kostelectronics
    @kostelectronics 5 лет назад

I have an idea why this communication problem occured: The Traction control has the highest priority on the CAN-Bus because it's security relevant. If your scanner talks too fast to the system, some data frames on the CAN-Communication getting lost, because the bus is physically too slow and overloaded with your fast scan-tool. then you'll get these problems. -->use a slow talking scanner on these vehicles :) Recently i had the same on a Volkswagen: The reason was im my case the ECM. The ECM tryed to trigger the check-engine-light on the dash. In the same time, the communication on the CAN-Bus was a very short period of time interrupted because the ECM's was trying to set the CEL --> i've got a ABS/ESP warning on the dash and no check engine light :). The reason was a faulty coolant temperature sensor at the ECM. Haha! BR from Switzerland, Matthias

When testing electronic components passively with a multimeter, it is usually more relevant and consistent to do a diode measurement. Even across different brands of multimeters, the results will not vary very much in contrast with resistance measurements, which highly depends on the brand, type and settings of multimeter. Positive terminal to ground and negative terminal to signal usually gives the most relevant results.

That happens on GM with my Autel and my Snap-on not on them all just a few. It had my scratch my head and then I realized it was just the scanner causing the issue. I unplugged the dongles and did a key cycle and Stabilitrak light back to normal. Now I just ignore the Stabilitrak light if it comes on and wasn't there before. Was too busy to investigate anymore, just know it happens. It's done it a few times on my wife's 2014 Traverse also. On my 2002 Grand Cherokee, I had my Actron scanner plugged in and looking at some PIDs. Drove it to Walmart like that, and as soon as I shut it off (with the scanner still plugged in and reading), the body control module went completely sideways. No locks, couldn't put up my windows, cluster and information center were stuck on. I can't remember if some lighting functions were acting weird, as well. It wasn't until I pulled the fuse or a relay for the BCM and plugged it back in that stuff went back to normal.

I think the launch isn't allowing the bus signals to return between the modules. It's taking in more then it gives back. A glitch on the launch scanner nonetheless. Overall great vid learned ways to check a bad sensor. Having a known good always helps seeing the trouble you had removing the old sensor. Swapping sensors maybe a bad idea while diagnosing. Till the next notification! Thanks PHAD!

I've seen cheap scan tools cause a bus communication error on mid 2000's Toyota's. Including my own. I also saw one of those intelligent battery testers (the ones that test the CCA of the battery) cause a brake module communication fault on a 2002 Corolla too. The CAN signals are probably very sensitive to interference. Yet at least 3 of those vehicles were fine on my Autel scanner and with Toyota Techstream with the pirate cable.

Just after the war, a naval computer operator had problems doing a backup on a mainframe and found a moth had got stuck in the memory core store. GM also had an issue with poor connections of the battery cables causing stabilatrac problems.

Launch X431 Diagun have its ability defects. As we said at the beginning, you will find its advantages and disadvantages when you have used it for a long time .
Of course, it's also possible that GM have their issue. It's just speculation.
    Let say some useful thing.
Steps to get tech support if you have a issue about Launch scan tool :
    1. Click "feedback diagnosis" to Write feedback and upload diagnose file
    2. Tell us the product ID once you submitted the feedback diagnosis.
    3. We will let Launch check your feedback as soon so possible.

Ivan does the Diagun not work in Landscape mode? I've put the 'app' onto my old Galaxy S5 & it's almost exactly the same as using the Tablet & has the 'History' button along the top, goes something like America/Asia/China/History. I'll try & do a vid on it.

Cool! That would be neat to see. I have an old S4 laying around collecting dust...

i replace those sensors all the time. but in addition to them being stuck in, due to the area i live in with forestry and oilfield and construction, the sensors are usually physically broken because they are in front of the axle, which then create a whole bunch of new problems. i have pulled my fair share of wheels and brakes off i order to get the broken pieces out or try to drive the sensor out.

Welcome to the world of integrated circuit acting as an variable resistor. The controller at the end of the wire is measuring the current against the resistor on the ground wire. If the sensor is "open" = only the IC inside the sensor running, you have low voltage.
If the sensor turns on a transistor connected to an low resistor, you get higher current from the 12V to ground and the voltage before the terminating resistor at the end of controller rises as the current increases. All the time the IC at the sensor is running on the voltage difference between 12V and output a.k.a "ground".
That is why the signal voltage difference is so low. This way you save ONE wire. When you save million wires $1 each, you just saved a million bucks.

Bluetooth frequency issue between the truck and the scan tool?

that erratic bus lol, I'd be torn between the test equipment's RFI noise or poor grounding at engine loose battery terminals!
