REALLY BAD Elevator Safety Break Problem

- I have two things to say-Embassy Suites needs to maintain their elevator, and KONE needs to make better elevators. Oh yea, excuse our language. The second time it stopped it scared the crap out of us. The video pretty much explains itself....
People always ask "where is the elevator" but never ask "how's the elevator".
or “what da elevator doin”
@@byronkulet05offtopic95 What da elevator doin? He going to 6 floor but it got stuck
Something strange was "going on" since the sudden stop happened twice, gave a warning with the unexpected stop, then the sudden jerk. Rope gripper sounds like a possibility
I must agree, the KONE elevators from the early 2000's are not of the best quality, but their elevators are improving now.
They've always been good in the UK.
@@EEverything360 yeah I live in uk
@@EEverything360they didnt say they arent
@@EEverything360I notice that Kone and even Schindler are horrible elevators in the US but better elevators in other countries like UK
I'm wondering if the governor is trying to trip but it not reaching the speed to where it fully trips
Probably not
That’s rather unlikely. Probably its door operator knife is hitting the landing door pickup rollers, opening the interlock safety circuit.
P.S. as far as I know - I know very little, mind you - Kone uses _door knifes_ in their door operators, rather than your more usual American _door clutches._ In my opinion, door knifes are way more reliable.
@@mattmoreira210 So like Euro style doors, rather than GAL style that America loves?
@@TheDragonFire123 yup!
From what I see, it's not the first Kone that has this.
I do not go back up in a Kone in life. The other day I went up Kone's escalatorsthe staircase was not linear, shakes and knocks are noticed (installed in 2012) and it was not pleasant, and it was even scary.

Yeah KONE. MOD THIS ELEVATOR NOW!!!!!!!!!
Their Ecodiscs seem cool tho
@@vancouverelevators_transit Repair this elevator now............
I don't pretend to be an expert, but it seems as though the elevator is stopping right after you hear the "beep" from the floor indicator and always on the way down. I wonder if the controller gets confused from the floor detectors (little metal vanes in the shaft) falsely thinking the car is about to hit bottom, hence such a sudden stop.
If that was the case then it would have to go down to the lowest floor everytime it stops like that to reset it's position. But it just relevels at the nearest floor in this video
It isn't happening in a logical spot for it to be a gate switch or a limit switch. A governor would need to be reset manually. Rope grippers are an additional safety feature added to many elevators... and they can reset themselves in the case of power interruption. Since all of the newer Kone equipment generates power when in negative force operation, I wonder if a voltage fluctuation is happening here due to the generation of power... enough fluctuation to trip a rope gripper...
Quite likely a momentary power fluctuation, since rope grippers are disengaged in normal operation, and engage during emergencies power failure, secondary over-speed safety. The sudden jolt of the elevator "was a rapid stop" probably not likely even if the drum brake on the traction machine had engaged.
Generation of power would only happen on the way up with 2 people in it because of the counterwheight.
@@TheTheo58 Kone lifts actually stop very violently even on a normal safety break
Something like this happened to me. It scared me so I rather got out ASAP and took the stairs... to 11th floor. We have old elevator with two doors which you must close manually. I like it better than automatic ones. I am afraid of them. Unfortunately I don't know how are they called.
I'm from Czech republic, I apologize for mistakes.
1:51 I would need new pants and the elevator would need new paint and new flooring
i would vomit, poop, have diarrhoea, pee and barf rotten eggs
that must have hurt so much
stopping while moving down high-speed??
0:28 YIKES. Where is this? I used to have a video of the glass elevators for the Embassy Suites in the Denver Tech Center. I would have complained to the hotel to have the elevator taken out of service.
... issue with the interlock of the 5th floor door. The downward cabin touches the lever and opens the contact for a milisecond. The controler registers this and stops the cabin instandly. But because it was just a brief touch, the contacts are closed again and the controller makes a slow levellingdrive to the next lower floor and resets to normal operation again.
New call and the trip continues.
Ok so how come it's not clipping it in the up?
@@shawnlarock8089 ... its like a doorhandle. The lever goes on one side just down.
Usually it will do it in both directions. I've been in the trade for 23 years.
@@shawnlarock8089 trust me i worked for schindler elevators.
We know this issue. It happens if something is deformed like a lightbarrier or the opposite part from the switch that touches the lever on the way down biiiit... the switch disengages. On the way up the lever of course gets touched again, but instead of opening it presses the swich shut ( the opposite way).
Trust me.it needs very little force to disengage and open the securitycircuit to bring the elevator to a complete halt. The onl why the elevator goes back in service is because the lever got released and engaged again.
@@pandabaerhellas I'm not gonna argue with you, I see this stuff everyday. I'm an elevator mechanic and I've also worked for swindler
now I'm no lift/elevator expert or nothing but I think whats happening is that, when its on the way down, it can sometimes harshly hit the roller causing the safety circuit to cut out and stop the lift/elevator, how do I know this? because I've seen lift/elevator videos from the UK, especially Otis where it would hit the roller and Safety break the lift/elevator and it wouldn't be able to go to 1, yea, its a big problem isn't it? now I think this is why but if I'm wrong, I'm wrong alr
The elevators at the Caribe Resort in Orange Beach, AL (same KONE model) had the same problem, at least when I stayed there
That sounds like people can hear it from the lobby
This was in your elevator fail compilation.
I think it just hits the roller on the outer door to break the safety.
It was behaving a couple of weeks ago :'(
Yea idk why it was acting up this time
On the last ride down THE ELEVATOR STOPPED TWICE!
Must be vibrating too much which triggers the safety brake
My elevator (ThyssenKrupp) had this too, but only for a short time and for a short time it stopped working at all!

I tried safety break at ZRH and i got stuck real hard
i looked up "ecodisc safety brake" and found this. This is not good, hope they fixed this lift.
So is it now fixed?
Hopefully you don't get stuck
Its not Kone's fault, just the people who maintain it.

Dis hapend to me at sait Laurent mall in Ottawa Ontario at de bus wit de emergency brakes 😢
That thing needs some serious help
I blame KONE. I know this thing is famous, but it is really nothing special so that's why I didn't come here and I hate KONE. Embassy Suites elevators are almost always in great condition. I've filmed at some with Otis, Thyssenkrupp and Northern and Dover and they run GREAT today.
Jowevator 3219 I NEVER blame Otis or Thyssenkrupp or most companies for fails, and blame people who own them. BUT KONE is REALLY CHEAP. My experience with KONE has been terrible.

This is the hotel that charges thousands per night for a normal room.
Playing with the elevator 😊
No. The elevator is playing with them.........
This elevator must be repaired
prob because its way to fast and it tries to stop but it does it way to hard
Bro your just opening the door when Its moving
This elevator needs help.
Oh Sh!!t The Elevator is broken
Holy crap this elevator
Embassy Suites don't have the best maintenance...
KONE doesn't make the best elevators
They do only if it’s either Otis, ThyssenKrupp or Mitsubishi but for other elevators like Schindler and Kone, those brands are unreliable asf
It's going down too fast and probably tripping a safety brake.
It didn't look like it was going any faster going up and/or once resuming.
Kss 220. My fav model of kone
KSS 220 is the model of the fixtures (buttons, indicators, etc.), not exactly the model of the elevator.

No wonder why it does that, it’s a Kone. Only if it was a Schindler...
KONE is better in most circumstaces. Although in North America their lifts seem a bit more temperamental than in Europe. In Europe KONE is amazing.
But you can think what you want as long as you are not biast.
Nelson Ahlvik I’m not typically biast, Kone here just isn’t the best. All elevators are good if they’re kept up, maintained, and inspected on a regular basis. I’ve seen a lot of Schindlers run horribly mainly due to poor maintenance
