Truly an amazing arrangement and performance; the bagpipes with orchestral background is divine, heavenly, magnificent, tremendous, and incredibly moving. This is my all-time favorite piece of music -- it brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it. Thank you for posting it on RUclips!!
Hello from Germany ! It is a wunderfull piece of bagpipe-music !!! Das ist ein wunderbares Dudelsack-Stück! Da bekommt man eine Gänsehaut nach der anderen!
i had this song to walk down the aisle at my wedding on the 8th august 2003, brings back loads of special memories, everytime i hear it i get goose pimples all over , its a tune that you cant get fed up.
The Royal Irish Regiment always take it at the correct tempo and play with passion and fluency and it just sounds fantastic. Come back to it every year.
This song was played at my dining out in my Battalion in a lovely German hunting lodge, built by Hitler and we had just defeated another dictator in Iraq. The haunting sounds will be with me as long as I live, thank you to the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards and The Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment) musicians, never forget it. Awesome and the lads and lasses here are not doing so bad themselves. God bless you wherever you are.
Love this so much. 15 pipers played this a few days ago at the menin gate. The sound was very moving and we all had tears in our eyes. We will remember them.
This song was played when Class of -03, National Police Academy of Norway, graduated. Will never forget that, sends chills down my spine every time I hear it!!!
Do it! Although I'm a side drummer in my local pipe and drums band, I'm told it's one of the most difficult instruments to learn. We have a couple of young fellas learning with us which I think is great! I mean, here we are in the digital age of guitars and what-not, and the young still want to learn a traditional instrument such as the pipes. Bloody brilliant I say. :)
Go for it! You will enjoy this experience very much! I started piping in my high school's pipe band... a lot more girls play the pipes than in the past, so no, it is not wrong, good luck!
Yes there is words to it.If you type in lyrics to Highland Cathedral on the internet you will get them. That's where i found them as we played this at my fathers funeral.
I heard the Mormon Tabernacle Choir perform this piece of music for my first time last Sunday, and instantly fell in love with it. It's such a moving piece. There's something so soulful about the bagpipes. Having a full choir and a full orchestra with it was great, too. They kept building and building with more bagpipes, more orchestra, and more voices until it filled the hall. Wow! And it is even more powerful LIVE! Thanks for such a great performance!
Will be playing this song on friday night for the closing cerimonies for the National Cadet Biathalon competition, i play 1st trombone, and this is my favourite song to play, even though it murders my chops, great sound quality
@2qwerty i got it played at my dads funeral too. then flower of scotland. we al felt so proud of being scottish & proud of my father and always will my friend
We're playing this song next week for a representative from London when he invites our high school band to play in the new year's day parade in London next year! I'm so excited!
absolutely stunning! That was one of the best arrangements I have heard of Highland Cathedral, this tune gives me goosebumps everytime I play or hear it on pipes with a band or pipe organ.... Just AMAZING! Excellent job!
Not generally a fan of the pipes but love hearing this song an the flower of scotland. Great video. Watch next time scotland rugby team comes out the tunnel, highland cathedral is always played then. Nearly brings a tear to the eye listnin to this an i dont even know why lol
Yes, this is a Scottish song. Michael Korb one of the composers studied the pipes in Berlin under a pipe major of a scots regiment stationed there. He travelled to Scotland in the 1970s and continued learning the pipes. He composed several pieces specifically for the Highland Great Pipe in traditional timing and dedicated to places in Scotland. A fantastic German composer composing for a Scottish instrument for Scotland, that is reasonably Scottish.
Having trawled RUclips for the 'Highland Cathedral' melody, no-one does it better than the Band of the Royal Irish Regiment - What a shame they have since been disbanded! Where would I get an Irish Saffron kilt? :-(
Thank you for posting this. My school, Shorter College plays this as the processional song at our graduations. It certainly makes you feel proud to hear this as you go marching in to receive your Degree. I'll be getting my 3rd and final degree at Shorter next week. Can't wait to hear this song again at the ole Alma Mater.
Super Lied, dieser schottische Marsch. Erinnert mich an meine Zeit im 3. Schnellbootgeschwader in Flensburg. Dieses Lied war die Ein- und Auslaufmusik Schnellboot S 42 ILTIS.
I'm no celtic, but this is one of the best bagpipe songs i've ever heard. By the way, it's being played when police students in norway are graduated. Incredible atmosphere!
That has to be one of the best versions of Highland Cathedral I have heard in a very long time.Well done bandspeople.Heaps better than some other versions here on youtube!!!! Yes I am a bagpiper and I know what I am talking about.
