This video should be taught in schools. The perfect RUclips How-To car repair video. No fluff, no words, just right to it with perfect view of what to do and how to do it. You sir are the GOAT.
Dude. Who are you? A professional mechanic? A professional videographer? Your work is amazing. The video editing, wow, every step clearly shown with a caption/label and video chapter and the whole thing is LESS THAN 11 MINUTES (about 7 for the tear-down)! I made my 9 year old son help me (mostly to pause and rewind your video with his cleanish hands) and we knocked this out. This job would have been crazy hard for someone just trying to figure it out as they went. The two bolts that were mostly by feel, my son was like, "how did he even get this on camera?"
I agree. I wish all diy videos on RUclips were like this. I truly appreciate his thoughtfulness and consideration into what people want in a step by step video 👏👏👏👏.
I must say thank you so very much. A shop quoted ~$700 for labor on this and that it was a ~4 hour job. I thought a 4 hour job for the shop with all tools and experience at their disposal would mean a weekend job for me with several bloody knuckles and additional damage to other parts while changing the alternator. Your video restored my confidence in changing it. Totally successful. A perfect video. Thank you!
Thanks dude! I was quoted $1,100 at Firestone. I got all the parts for $300, and got it all fixed in my driveway thanks to you. You saved me $800! Rock on
If RUclips ever establishes a RUclips Hall of Fame, this video should be in it. It is the golden standard of how to produce and edit a vehicle repair video. This 11-minute video saved me $1000 yesterday.
I’m commenting as the wife of red rocks. This perfectly executed video saved our Fathers Day weekend. I am so grateful my husband found it!! Not only did it save us at least $1000, but the time! We are now on our way to the river, instead of working on the car all day. Thank you for your time and effort in making this!!
I know this is an older video, but this video is 100% spot on and perfect no fluff video. Much appreciated. Only thing I'd add is don't tighten the two 14mm alternator bolts all the way on the front of alternator until you get the hidden 12mm in and tightened. just makes it a bit easier. Other than that everything is perfect.
I owe you at least a comment. You did a fantastic job showing everything that I needed to know, and the labels were extremely helpful as well. A $900 job at the shop turned into a $200 weekend project, and I get to keep the wobble sockets and the radiator bleeder funnel!
_Hey man. Just wanted throw my 'thanks' on the 'thanks pile'._ 👍🏼 *Great, concise (aka: nicely edited) step-by-step video w/out any annoying background audio (only ambient audio).* _My only 'complaint' is that you made it look a little TOO easy. LOL Thanks again, man!_ 😊 PS: I downloaded this video to my phone/local network... but please don't ever take it off RUclips. By leaving it posted, you'll be helping folks fix their Siennas for the next 100 years. 👍🏼
Excellent in all respects. Showed me exactly what to do and in what order. And perfectly edited with no unnecessary small talk, opening or closing buffers. Perfect video. Thank you!!
I just wanted to echo some of these comments. Excellent how to video. Finished the job, not too bad. Took 4 hours but I was also chasing kids 🤷♂️ Well done sir!
Awesome. Just awesome. I don't know anything about fixing cars I did this in about 4 hrs with your video. It would've taken me days on my own. And putting the tape on the bolt so you don't lose it, genius. I would've lost that bolt 50 times trying to put it back in. And you did it all without talking and explaining stuff for 35 min. Just incredible. Can't thank you enough
Thanks pal. I appreciate the walk through to make my day easier. No one ever wants to replace an alternator no less on Christmas but you sure made the job easier with the very quick and detailed instructions for the job. Again thanks!
Tried valiantly to take the alternator out without removing the fans but failed. Definitely wasn’t that difficult to pull the upper rad hose and the fan assembly. Then the work is much easier. Got away with not removing the lower rad hose tho, keeping most of the coolant in - if that matters to anyone. Great video thanks for good lighting and descriptions along the way. Perfect help.
I did the same. There's plenty of room to work with the lower coolant hose in place. I very much did not want to have to bleed the system extensively, and thankfully, did not have to!
Absolutely legendary editing and filming. I rarely comment on these videos, I just use them, benefit off them, and keep moving. However this is some phenomenal editing thank you very much for your service.
I spent the day changing the alternator in my 2011 Sienna using your video. I didn't have all the tools you have, and I had to borrow the serpentine tool from Autozone, but I got the job done just before sundown, and it went well! Thanks a million for such a well-done video! ❤
This is so far the best video for Sienna alternator replacement - very clear step-by-step directions and high quality video. I have a 2011 Sienna that will have the 2nd alternator replacement soon. Lot of remanufactured alternators are not Denso and will not last long. Keep the original alternator and have local shop to recondition it if possible.
Thank you won’t be enough to appreciate your explanation and video. I was able to replace the alternator for the first time and save money with Towing and labor. Also I lost the fear of fixing simple things we consider sometimes a nightmare. I would give you a thousand likes but I am not allowed but as an appreciation I am now subscribed to your channel.
I pretty much never comment, like or subscribe. This channel a/ video saved me so much time! Remove and replace in under 2.5 hours. including 2 drives to the auto parts store.
I wish Toyota made it easier accessable to get to the Alternator, to save so much time on removing so many things. But thank you for making it clear on how to tackle a pretty tough job for non mechanics like myself.🙏🏾
After returning core, did this in 4 hours for $300. Happened to be a surprise while I was out of town - could've ordered from RockAuto to cut cost to $200. Great video! One tip I found when reinstalling the alternator, don't tighten everything down at first. Doing the bracketed (lower right) side first helped get it seated correctly.
Thank you very much. Im changing an ac flow sensor but wasnt about to damage the wiring connectors wirhout knowing how. That 10 mm bolt under the boot and the standard connector makes it possible to remove C clip and sensor with room to move. Kudos to you and thanks again.
I can definitely appreciate the time you took in putting this how to together, very thorough! Our Seinna's gave up 3 hours away from home amd fortunately the battery lasted long enough to get us safely off the highway... Fun day ahead LOL but your video preps me for it!
Awesome Video, The best out here. Thank you. I am fixing my 2012 Sienna today by following your step by step. I drain my radiator fluid overnight. probably bleeding them when I'm done. Thank you for your hard working.
I did this job today and this video was perfect! Getting that little bracket free from the clip and cable ate up about an hour, but besides that, it went well! Thanks Bro!
this was a big help. my son and I followed step-by-step and successfully replace the alternator. we also left the 2nd coolant hose connected. it made the job more difficult, but kept everything cleaner overall. the only problem is, after finishing the job, the van is no longer starting. it's cranking over, but not starting. any thoughts/ideas? we triple checked every electrical connector etc. I was driving the van (on just the battery) before replacing the alternator. so something happened during or after the install. can't put my finger on it. btw, the battery is fine. UPDATE: we figured out why the van wouldn't start after installing the new alternator. our friend, an experienced Toyota mechanic diagnosed the problem immediately. apparently while removing the old alternator, we jostled the wire too much the leads to the crankshaft sensor down behind the air conditioner compressor. this is the wire connected to the bracket at 7:00 in the video. it's best to remove the bracket from the alternator as he suggests in the video, and then disconnect the wire. our problem was the wire got strained and was loosed from the housing that connects to the sensor, and we lost the connection. this caused the engine to turn over, but not start. so we had to remove the alternator again, loosen the air conditioner compressor so we get access to the crankshaft sensor housing. we crimped the wire back in, and reinstalled everything. the van is running great! save yourself a lot of trouble and be very careful with the crankshaft sensor wire.
This saved me! Decided to change the alternator on the farm on a long weekend… video was perfect for laying out the plans and tools. Got the new one installed with no problems. Went to start it to top up the coolant…. And it just cranked and cranked. No start. So thankful for the comments, read through and found the crank sensor comment. Went out and dropped the ac compressor and sure enough one wire had pulled out of the connector. Recrimped it and reassembled everything and it fired right up. Thanks again! Whew
I just got the rear bracket back in hours messing with it. I am worried I put to much pressure on some cables. Hopefully everything is good tomorrow when I finish. If not, nice to know I’m not the only one
Felicidades colega me da gusto lo profesional que eres en lo qué haces yo trabajo para Toyota ya x 35 años y es una pasión esta bella profesión saludos desde california
Thanks just completed this on a 2011 Sienna SE. The lower bolt on the alternator gave me the most trouble going back in. It mostly done on feel to start the first few threads. Thanks again.
Thank you for a fantastic video MrRangerZR1: good clips, captions & editing - no nonsense. My sons & I knocked this out in a few hours today thanks to your help!
Amazing video! My sister-in-law and I were able to change her alternator by following your instructions. She had no experience and I have limited. It was great!
Perfect Video I fix my toyota sienna 2015 all lights came on I check the voltage extremely low not charging I'm replacing alternator thank you for your help
Gracias por tu video muy profesional y muy detallista GRACIAS ME AYUDASTE Y LOGRE CAMBIAR MI ALTERNADOR Y TAMBIÉN ME AHORRASTE MUCHO DINERO GRACIAS 💯💪👍
That 12 mm bolt for the bracket, I dont know how many times I dropped it before the a/c compressor. Maybe, I replaced alternator on Sienna/Odyssey 1000 of them. 😂 Good job!
Amazing video and instructions. I am impressed with your ability to do it all while taking phenomenal video, adding in great written instructions, helpful tips, and no voice over about every little thing. Just excellent video and tip. My only question is this for a 4 (2.5L) or 6 (3.5L) cylinder engine? I hear the 6 is more difficult to get too.
Hi mr ranger can you do a video on a 2008 honda odyssey rear cylinder head removal and install my rear head is cracked and im trying to fix it I have coolant mixing with oil a tech told me lmk if you have any videos on how to fix this or changing out the rear head 08 honda odyssey j35 3.5 liter. Thanks ive watch alot of you vidz on odyssey you've helped me alot but im not facing this problem to save my vehicle thank you!
Very good video. I didn’t see how you reattached that wire harness that was connected to the bracket. It seems like it it’s very hard to do once the bracket is on the alternator.
WOW - GREAT - does your video apply to changing a 2008 highlander alternator? If no what is the difference? Is the 2008 harder or easier to change? Thanks
great video, showed all the details for changing an alternator, doen anyone know why we need bleed coolant ? can we just simply add coolant to the coolant reservoir ? thanks

Best auto repair video I've ever seen. This makes me want to actually change the alternator on my car instead of take it in. Amazing!
Excellent in all respects. Showed me exactly what to do and in what order. And perfectly edited with no unnecessary small talk, opening or closing buffers. Perfect video. Thank you!!

Man it would be awesome if you worked on a 2015 Honda Fit alternator replacement. Anyways great work!! 🏆
This video is so helpful. Thank you for helping us all. I was able to change alternator with your guidance.
That 12 mm bolt for the bracket, I dont know how many times I dropped it before the a/c compressor. Maybe, I replaced alternator on Sienna/Odyssey 1000 of them. 😂 Good job!

Amazing video and step by step instructions. Thank you Sir!! 👍👍👏👏👏👏
Great video. I paid $1400+ last year to replace it for 2011 Sienna (bay area). Sigh.
Jo bidin prices.
Excellent editing. Step by step. Ypu are awesome bro
Very good video. I didn’t see how you reattached that wire harness that was connected to the bracket. It seems like it it’s very hard to do once the bracket is on the alternator.
I didn’t reattach it, I left it off.
@@MrRangerZr1 Ah. Good to know. Thanks for replying
WOW - GREAT - does your video apply to changing a 2008 highlander alternator? If no what is the difference? Is the 2008 harder or easier to change?

more or less same procedure
Thanks for the help, you saved me an alldata subscription. Lol
Great job with this video, saved me a ton of time and money. Very well done!
great video, showed all the details for changing an alternator, doen anyone know why we need bleed coolant ? can we just simply add coolant to the coolant reservoir ? thanks
I would also love to know this
This cooling system is different than other cars, you need to bleed it the way I showed. Other cars are easier to bleed.
I just refilled the radiator and reservoir tank due to time restraints mostly. Shouldn't it eventually bleed out?
Solid video, thanks man you da best 🤘
Exceptionally good work
Thank you
Amazing video
Great video
How many miles on it?
this one had somewhere around 110k miles
@@MrRangerZr1Oh wow. I feel lucky that the original alternator I'm about to change, lasted 220,000 miles. 👍🏼
Excellent job. At what mileage does the alternator fail? Ours has 130k miles. Changing the alternator in my CX-9 was even worse.
On toyotas the alternator rarely fail, i seen some go 250k+
Excelente 👌 thanks from juarez México
GREAT VIDEO! Thank You.
Did you take the dip stick nut off?
no
@@MrRangerZr1 Thanks!
Much respect Sir. Thanks for that!
very nicely done. great video
Best graphic video!!
