West Side Story (2021) Official Soundtrack
Directed by Academy Award® winner Steven Spielberg, from a screenplay by Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award® winner Tony Kushner, “West Side Story” tells the classic tale of fierce rivalries and young love in 1957 New York City. This reimagining of the beloved musical stars Ansel Elgort (Tony); Rachel Zegler (María); Ariana DeBose (Anita); David Alvarez (Bernardo); Mike Faist (Riff); Josh Andrés Rivera (Chino); Ana Isabelle (Rosalía); Corey Stoll (Lieutenant Schrank); Brian d’Arcy James (Officer Krupke); and Rita Moreno (as Valentina, who owns the corner store in which Tony works). Moreno - one of only three artists to be honored with Academy®, Emmy®, GRAMMY®, Tony® and Peabody Awards - also serves as one of the film’s executive producers.
Ben Cook is insanely funny in this scene, and the fact his accent is so similar to his Newsies accent really amuses me 🤣
I never knew the individual Jets from the 61 movie. Now I know their names and a character behind them. Baby John looks like he's a newbie Jet (looks 16 or 17). The way he is freaked about what his mom will think is so cute. And the other Jets are caring about him especially when he gets his ear pierced by a nail.
the script actually puts him at 13 or 14, which is crazy. not a single one of those characters are older than 18
He looked like Freddie Highmore to me. I kept thinking "Damn u haven't aged since Charlie and the Chocolate Factory!"
It’s been a hot minute since I’ve seen the 1961 version
But when I saw this version in theater, it put a smile on my face
The way I would die for ben cook
RIGHT
When i first heard this i was mixed on it but seeing it on the big screen liked this version even more
Lyrics
ACTION
Dear kindly Sergeant Krupke,
You gotta understand,
It's just our bringin' up-ke
That gets us out of hand.
Our mothers all are junkies,
Our fathers all are drunks.
Golly Moses, natcherly we're punks!
ACTION AND JETS
Gee, Officer Krupke, we're very upset;
We never had the love that ev'ry child oughta get.
We ain't no delinquents,
We're misunderstood.
Deep down inside us there is good!
ACTION
There is good!
ALL
There is good, there is good,
There is untapped good!
Like inside, the worst of us is good!
SNOWBOY: (Spoken)
That's a touchin' good story.
ACTION: (Spoken)
Lemme tell it to the world!
SNOWBOY:
Just tell it to the judge.
ACTION
Dear kindly Judge, your Honor,
My parents treat me rough.
With all their marijuana,
They won't give me a puff.
They didn't wanna have me,
But somehow I was had.
Leapin' lizards! That's why I'm so bad!
DIESEL:
(As Judge) Right!
Officer Krupke, you're really a square;
This boy don't need a judge, he needs an analyst's care!
It's just his neurosis that oughta be curbed.
He's psychologic'ly disturbed!
ACTION
I'm disturbed!
JETS
We're disturbed, we're disturbed,
We're the most disturbed,
Like we're psychologic'ly disturbed.
DIESEL: (Spoken, as Judge) In the opinion on this court, this child is depraved on account he ain't had a normal home.
ACTION: (Spoken) Hey, I'm depraved on account I'm deprived.
DIESEL:
So take him to a headshrinker.
ACTION (Sings)
My father is a bastard,
My ma's an S.O.B.
My grandpa's always plastered,
My grandma pushes tea.
My sister wears a mustache,
My brother wears a dress.
Goodness gracious, that's why I'm a mess!
A-RAB: (As Psychiatrist)
Yes!
Officer Krupke, you're really a slob.
This boy don't need a doctor, just a good honest job.
Society's played him a terrible trick,
And sociologic'ly he's sick!
ACTION
I am sick!
ALL
We are sick, we are sick,
We are sick, sick, sick,
Like we're sociologically sick!
A-RAB: In my opinion, this child don't need to have his head shrunk at all. Juvenile delinquency is purely a social disease!
ACTION: Hey, I got a social disease!
A-RAB: So take him to a social worker!
ACTION
Dear kindly social worker,
They say go earn a buck.
Like be a soda jerker,
Which means like be a schumck.
It's not I'm anti-social,
I'm only anti-work.
Gloryosky! That's why I'm a jerk!
BABY JOHN: (As Female Social Worker)
Eek!
Officer Krupke, you've done it again.
This boy don't need a job, he needs a year in the pen.
It ain't just a question of misunderstood;
Deep down inside him, he's no good!
ACTION
I'm no good!
ALL
We're no good, we're no good!
We're no earthly good,
Like the best of us is no damn good!
DIESEL (As Judge)
The trouble is he's crazy.
A-RAB (As Psychiatrist)
The trouble is he drinks.
BABY JOHN (As Female Social Worker)
The trouble is he's lazy.
DIESEL
The trouble is he stinks.
A-RAB
The trouble is he's growing.
BABY JOHN
The trouble is he's grown.
ALL
Krupke, we got troubles of our own!
Gee, Officer Krupke,
We're down on our knees,
'Cause no one wants a fellow with a social disease.
Gee, Officer Krupke,
What are we to do?
Gee, Officer Krupke,
Krup you!
Just saw the movie last night. Liked this song/scene the best.
Sighs. Contentedly. So happy.
I'm so happy they kept the slap sounds in the recording
the way ben's character wears a newsies hat tho
by the way i would die for ben cook
I’m obsessed with this song haha
The first "Gee Officer Krupke" made me so happy
There’s a slowed down quality to this version and I’m not mad about it 😅😊
It sounds like a bunch of teenagers goofing off whilst they are bored to entertain themselves.
2:45 - 2:59
one of my favorie parts😂
ayo yo diesel you got a social disease?
two people from newsies (mike faist wasnt the original cast tho) in the same movie is so slay 😻😻
2:45 - 2:59 -- *flashes back to Degrassi*
xD
. I love this song this version is good but i really liked the 1961 version.
That was the worst part of the movie for me.

1:39 I Wonder thats their excuse for what they were about to do to anita? "Punks!"
0:38 "we aint no delinquents, we're misunder-*ears brutally attacked by the piercing autotune*
Really wish they wouldn't have applied so much obvious pitch correction on this soundtrack.
I think it’s probably different in the film than it is for the soundtrack…
It sounds better this way
Totally agree, it's a pet peeve of mine. But I'm pleasantly surprised that it's not worse, because it sounded pretty heavy in the clips.
No but when I heard Ben Cook I said: wait is that....Erster...?
3:05
Ben cook carries
i know you all are going to disagree with me but i'm going to say this anyway they should at this part to the song after "my brother wears a dress goodness gracious that's why i'm a mess" they should put "you're brother wears a dress then let me just say if you're brother wears a dress then surely he must be gay"🤣
It's weird given the PR fixes (eg "bullets flying" becoming "people trying" in "America") that the fairly transphobic line about the sister with a moustache and the brother with a dress didn't get a revision. Can you imagine it being left if it had been a swipe at his brother dating a man or something? Hell no, that would have been gone in a moment. Weird miss.
I mean, this comes right after a scene of the boys being transphobic to Anybodys, so I think keeping the line in was intentional to show their prejudices
I mean, half the characters are heavily racist so it's not really a shock. It's a period piece and it is what it is
Because it has meaning..?
That’s…… kinda the point.
@@myusbisbroken7898 ... No, it isn't. When it was written the audience would have shared the transphobic sentiments. It's not there to undermine the transphobic characters, it's there BC it's supposedly funny and an indicator of being silly. We know better in 2022.
Ugh so much pitch correction. Dial it down, guys.
I can't notice the pitch correction.....I guess that is good for the average listener
Not as good as original
No need for the comment
