One of the many reasons that Oaxaca is worth visiting is that the city provides some of the most exquisite accommodation in Mexico. The city itself is warm and welcoming- perfectly safe for any travelers- and the array of hotels available are all designed to make sure that your experience in the city is second to none!

@@MikeGProductions It’s amazing here, nice break from super touristy Cancun/Playa area. Everyone is very nice. I’m sitting on the patio now drinking a beer and looking at the mountains. This is our first trip we didn’t stay in a luxury hotel or condo, just some random ranch house way up in the mountains which is exactly what I wanted this trip.

We loved Oaxaca (and this video)! Travelers should be aware that, in the winter, it can get very cool at night at that elevation (8-12 degrees C; daytime highs; 20-24). I was very happy to have the puffy jacket I was wearing when I left Canada (we bough gloves there). I would go back in an instant! Another recommendation: the Sunday Indigenous mercado at Tlacolula (you can catch a colectivo taxi near the stadium).

Go somewhere else. These people are not friendly. Even the vendors at the markets are not as friendly as my experiences in other parts of mexico and the Dominican republic. I felt invisible to them. Didn't feel welcomed at all. Met a few nice taxi drivers but I had to break the ice with them and initiate a conversation. Another couple who does RUclips videos who stayed in mexico for over 15 months expressed this as the very reason why they left Oaxaca and couldn't call home. Boy were they right!

    Hi Zack and Ine,
First of all, a very big compliment for your channel, in one word fantastic!!!
I have a RUclips channel myself (St.MarcFishing), so I know what it takes to put a film together properly, in terms of images, sound, editing and storyline, as well as meaningful, useful information to serve the viewer. You do that very well.
I have already seen several videos from your channel, such as the Colombia tour and Chiapas and so on. Almost all videos related to Mexico.
We are going to emigrate to that beautiful country in April '24 (we are building 2 beach houses, Tulum jungle and Xpu Ha jungle, as well as establishing a self-sufficient community on a large piece of land near Merida) and your videos make me really want to go on some trips and use your useful information and very practical planners for that, GREAT!
Thank you very much for sharing your adventures and information, we have saved your channel as a favorite. Ps. Your cinematography and editing-skills are awesome, they inspire me.
    Keep it up!
Marc, Natascha, Jasmijn, from Nederland (future Mexicans...).
Groetjes & dank ook aan Ine, uit Belgie. Ga zo door!

We rented a car in Oaxaca City for the day and drove out there ourselves. The mezcalería was on the way to Hierve el Agua. It was a random spot along the road, not sure how it was called. You can just drop in, there are many local distilleries along that way! All very authentic, but not many actually speak English. Alternatively, you can book a day tour to Hierve El Agua that includes a tour of a mezcalería.

I am in Oaxaca now and live down the street from the market. I went there today. walked around. It looks like a dump and ghetto to me. losts of graffitti and the people are so unfriendly, even the vendors. I tried to talk to two taxi drivers and they were rude and dismissive of what I was looking for. People won't look at you so they can avoid speaking. And many spoke only when I spoke to them. I came to visit during my two month stay in Puerto Vallarta because I heard so many good things about the city. So far I'm not seeing it. I have a few more days to experience more. We didn’t rent one. It might be possible, but we didn’t see anyone do that.. it’s easy enough to get around the city by walking / taxi

I am Mexican, I just returned from a 4 days trip to Oaxaca city, and I have to say it was very dissapointing to witness the total abandonement of the City. It is covered with graffiti (the bad kind), broken sidewalks, unattended homeless people, and in general no public care whatsoever. It is very obvious that the State and municipal authorities don’t care either about the City or the in habitants, in my opinion it does not deserve at all the title given by UNESCO as a world heritage site or even a “Pueblo Mágico” for that máster. Much better cities are QUERETARO, GUANAJUATO, MORELIA, ZACATECAS, MERIDA, PUEBLA.

It's sad you experienced it that way... we really found the opposite and had the best food in all of Mexico! Architecture wise it may not be perfect, but we find that a bit charming as well sometimes

I wonder if we are talking about the same city. I have been there 2 times and to me it was great, the city is nice, the food is great if not the greatest of all México. As a matter or fact I will be there tomorrow.

We booked it via this local company in Oaxaca City: Ñuu Kava Renta de Autos (you can find directions on google maps). We just walked in one day and then booked a car for the day after. They were really friendly and we had a great experience. It was also pretty cheap!
