That was kind of a bummer but if you run it with a cab sim or a DI it’s still good. I did run it through a darkglass B7K and an Omnicab Sim and I didn’t hear much of any loss from the pedal.
@@Therealchuckbailey Stick something like the Hotone Omni IR after it and you’ve got a great little straight to board setup that would absolutely kill it
I know these are made just for the tube tone, but I think the Le Bass is more useful and for cheaper. Gets you the coveted tube tone, a DI, FX Loop, and Midi In/Out (if you need it), plus a cab Sim. Also, two styles of pre-amps that can be blended together to really shape your tone. Killer package
I always viewed LeBass as a overdrive/distortion unit... I know tubewarmers are technically overdrive but the focus here is on the mids at the actual point of breakup, I feel the focus of LeBass is on the high end and past the point of breakup
I have one of these and it's an always on pedal for me. It just adds that bit of 3D or gummy feeling that no one but the person playing would notice, ha! Something that wasn't mentioned in the review, but is on the website is the type of tube that is used - it's not your standard AX7 that easily breaks up with drive. I can't remember the type of tube but it's used for driving as clean as possible. At the very end of the volume knob and definitely with the boost you'll get some crunch, otherwise none. I think this pedal doesn't come across well in videos, but its signal is very HOT and it slams your amp's preamp if you aren't careful. Using the boost switch just gets wild. I have a Darkglass amp and had to turn the gain way down if I had the pedal turned up to where I wanted it. This lead me to put it in the fx return loop, which I think is the secret sauce spot. I keep the pedal cranked and it becomes my plug and play heavy driven tube power section. Solid state pre-amp for a nice and tight signal but the tube pedal for some extra flavor. Also, IMO, most of the samples (besides Josh) were already warm tones, which this is probably overkill for. It's great when added to move aggressive tones, though.
Spot on man. the pedal makes it tough to differentiate in a mix but the subtlety of warmness and its potential to drive and get that grit when you push the tube is awesome! I loved it just barely cranked on the volume and no boost. It brings your signal chain to life and gives passive basses such fullness. sounds like you have the signal chain figured out in the FX Loop too! that's a great idea. we tried to show this pedal across multiple players, styles and genres and while I do not disagree with your initial statement that it was subtle with those examples we saved ash for last because we knew his representation would be the perfect opposite end to the warmer showcased spectrums. Thanks for providing some awesome feedback. appreciate you! Also its definitely a pedal that if you are in front of and hear for yourself you can really get a feel for the character and tube goodness it brings.
@@Therealchuckbailey Absolutely! I've always had a love/hate with tubes b/c of how woofy and undefined a B string (or even E string at times) can get when pushed, but the flavor otherwise is great. You’re dead on and again if we all had our way we would be carrying 300 watt tube amps around for everything but this tube performs well and it doesn’t have to be on and EXTREME. There are numerous cool tube preamps on the market today - Noble, Markbass, Arkham, Olympic, the new TwoNotes ReVolt... Are the sophisticated gentlemen at Bass Channel sophisticated and gentleman-ey enough to review them and find the best tubewarmer pedal? (Hope it sounds like an exciting challenge)
Man we have tried with Noble but no dice and at a $2k price tag our sophistication stops there 😂 Arkham we have reviewed in the Oracle and we got some cool content coming up soon! I’ll look into the Markbass and the Olympic and I’ve heard good things about the TwoNotes gear. Most of our limitations are on the companies willingness to work with us by their availability of stock. Not for a lack of trying but we aren’t in a position to work for free so we do what we can where we can and with amicable partners. Thanks for the suggestions and for watching Marcin!
I have one of these. I think it is great. If I had watched this video before, I wouldn't have bought it. The sounds on this video are not a good representation of what it does. It sounds a little like a light compressor when activated. It is one of my favorites. There are better videos though.
I was thinking about that too . I have the Eden and, like it claims by its name, it adds some warmth to the tone . I use it before my Hartke HD25 practice combo to get a deeper tone to practice at home.
@@esposoman I have found basically the same thing using it before my Sansamp 2112 preamp. The Glow Plug has more control capabilities than the Edison though.
You should cause honestly the nuance that this pedal adds is tough to differentiate without pushing the tube for the obvious difference it adds (like Josh’s demo)
Sushi Box effects makes quite a few boutique tube preamps that sound just as good and in some cases better than this. I use the Sushi Box Slampegg Bee Pre. Sushi Box cost less as well.
@@gmr2048 Sushi Box pedals are sold during an ordering window each month, it usually lasts 2 weeks, then ordering closes and the pedals get hand built. The December orders should be open around November 15th.
You need more than a tube driven by a 9volt wall wart to deliver tube tones. Tube tones come from amps with a series of transformers, tube gain stages. All fueled by pretty high voltage running through the circuit. Pedals with tubes in them tend to have very low voltage running through the circuit (starved plate design) so the tube isn’t being pushed, and a single tube (especially if starved) will not magically give you the coveted tube tones from the hey day.
@@Nebvin I wasn’t familiar with his designs till now. Thanks for the info. He seems to use an SMPS to regulate and step up the voltage internally. Question for you. Have you had the pleasure of trying a cranked tube amp for a long period of time? If so, I would love to hear your thoughts on how Sushi Box FX preamp offerings stack up.
@@mannybernardez9556 Idk man I have a tube preamp that runs at a voltage that's apparently not enough to drive a tube, but I notice a significant shift in tone and slight compression when playing hard
Every time I see a clip of someone playing in a club on this channel, there are TV monitors on behind the band. SO distracting! Can't the club turn them off when a band is playing? Poor taste and disrespectful to the band, in my opinion.

You should try the AMT Lead series, real preamps circuits where you can use a real preamp tube.
The NiteOwl Edison reminds me of the the Darkglass Vintage Microtubes with the grunt switch on. Do you agree?
I totally want one. The only thing that would make it better is if it had an XLR out so you could go straight to the sound board.
