Thanks for this. I had a pretty bad game yesterday where I had shanked too many balls from opponent serves. That was painful somehow.

If a team gets a lot of points by tipping the ball over the net what is a great way to counter that? I faced a team where I was digging their spikes so they started tipping the ball away from me towards other players and we don’t see that often 😅 6v6 btw

Please cover passing more thoroughly, I’m new to volleyball and tend to shank basic passes or bump sets. Love the videos!

      Better at Beach
Yep, I did! Watched the whole thing through and it helped a ton. I’d just like to see a series of videos on the basics for beginners like me who are just getting the hang of things. I’m probably not your target audience though so y’all probably aren’t looking to shoot those types of videos 😅

@@NamNguyen-ep4ef No this is good info! We do have courses that cover the basics so if you are ever interested head over to BetteratBeach.com. But we will keep trying to bring content to every level of player! Thanks for hanging in there with us! We will have a similar setting video coming soon!

As a shorter player (5’9), how can we use our height to our advantage? Also, any tips to poke/tip the ball?

    • @nickcraddock6622

TLDR: keep your attacks fast and moving, poke/tip the ball near the slower player
For shorter players(like myself), the biggest success I have found is using speed/tempo to keep a blocker second guessing/moving late. For example, every time the blocker is serving, try and make your next pass/set/hit fast and focused, so you can either beat the block and get a swing in before the wall gets set up, or the block will be late and you get a good chisel off their leaning hands. If they aren't serving, focus on making them follow you as you run your route of attack, if you catch them snoozing or if they are slow, a back-set with a fast approach can quickly cause chaos on the defense against you. If neither of those are options, keep the attack-on-two option open with your partner, and just go for high hand swings for tools.
For pokes and tips, you can also go about it a few ways, once again depending on the defense you're up against. When going for the poke, figure out which case is better for you: 1-the blocker is very bad at self cover or 2- the defender is slow to pick up/picks up one shot better than the other. for case 1 - high pokes right over the block 5-6ft behind them will usually grab the point or a shank way far off, and for 2 - focus on shooting towards their worse pick up. if you have a better indoor background, then going for the swipe off the block can also work, assuming you have a close enough set, otherwise poking into the block to cover yourself for another option can work.
