@@make.anything this is actually the more important part as dryer lint buildup in the vent is a leading cause of house fires, according to a fire Marshall I know. Be sure to check dates on the devices whether moving into a house or apartment! After replacing, I set an 8 year reminder on my phone, lol.
@@2nd-place That happened to me 2 weeks ago. Luckily, when it caught fire we were awakd, saw the smoke, and put out the fire. Unfortunately we cant even reach the lint that caught fire and theres more back there so we basically have to throw it away. Better that than a house fire though :)
Actually after this video I checked mine and it's kind of same. So I learned that there is a hinge underneath which you can take out and then clean without the vaccum extender. Still this video helped and it made me go and clean mine. Thanks.
I once had a housemate with 3cats. The dryer vent was backed up to the outside of the house I pulled out almost a 5gallon bucket of furry crud out. It could definitely have caused a fire so check yours, especially if you do a lot of laundry.😊😊
Those areas should definitely be cleaned! They pose fire risks, and make dry times longer. My mother usually just takes a toilet paper tube or paper towel and puts it on the vacuum hose
Very cool video and looks like it would be fun to come up with new ideas to make things. I have always had to rely on my own ingenuity. Use a wire coat hanger and a paper towel inner card board roll. Take apart the coat hanger to loosen up the compacted lint. Make some slices on one side of the roll and tape to vacuum end. Works great.
Oh hey, I use fusion for my year 8 CAD work at school. It's pretty cool. Made I think 2 things because I couldn't get it for over half the term but FINALLY got it!
I literally tried to clean mine out last month and it was a fail. Bought some kind of extender but it was a fail also. It was so small and flimsy that my vacuum just collapsed the tube and it almost ruptured my eardrums with the high putched whistling noise it made 😅. I used a brush to pull as much as I could out but it didn't do much.... Gonna have to find someone to make me something like this for my vacuum! Thanks for the idea!
I love my SV01, I bought it after watching your review. I haven't printed flexible filament yet, maybe I'll give that a try after my current production run.
I was mounting a tv to a wall mount and the screws were too long and if I left them it would wobble. I just got my calipers out and measured and printed my own spacers in like an hour. Saved me a 2 hour round trip to the hardware store + gas money!!
Awesome! Just did the same for my $20 eBay hand held vacuum I went full ham and made a extension with small nozzle, stackable extension, and floor sweeper extension.. Extenze!!
I used TPU to create a coupler so I can merge shop vac hoses, works great and flexs with the hose. TPU is also soft so it prevents scuffs from the coupler on home trim or your auto...TPU is a great filament.
our old dryer had to be replaced bc of a lint problem. it would build up around the outside of the barrel and eventually kept it from working at all (i believe it shorted out something). anyways, we took it apart to look inside and there were literal scorch marks from where the lint had caught fire. i believe there was a recall for them, it was some whirlpool brand red thing.
I know a part time fireman, he said that most of the fires he attends are due to lint not being cleaned out of tumble dryers. Don't leave them running while your out or at night while your asleep.
If you have that much crap in there, you need to fully take it apart and clean it. Otherwise you will start blowing parts. I replaced a temp safety fuse up near the top of the dryer. And it blew again. So where the problem was in the door, it was clogged with lint, restricting the air flow and blowing the safety fuse. So I cleaned everything all the way to the outside.
I was presented with a similar issue about a month ago, instead I opted to take apart the dryer to clean that area. I also noticed the blower wheel was mangled, could have 3D printed that as well
Fun! I nearly designed one of these last week until I got a clothes hanger to get 95% of it. You hosting this file anywhere? Also im willing to bet this will make your dryer run better and dry faster.
I considered a more simple solution like that, but I'll be able to reuse this extension many times so I think it was worth it :) I'm not sure the file is of much use unless the vacuum tube follows some sort of standard, but if someone has this exact one I can do it
@@make.anything as far as I know, most vacuum nozzles are the same few sizes, since they are probably made by the same factory. Even then, I'm sure people can figure out how to modify the file and make it fit properly

I’d imagine that it would be made to come apart if it’s something everyone does so that makes the job seem better.
@@miriam9419 I don't know how many people do it, but it's generally just removing a panel or two and sucking it out with a vacuum or even grabbing it by hand. If you're lucky, and don't have to move the dryer to do it, it will take just a few minutes. I can't really be specific, unfortunately, because every type of dryer is different. Don't forget the vent pipe leading outside. You shouldn't have to do it very often if your lint filter is working and cleaned after every use. Maybe yearly.
That circular panel in the bottom left can be opened by simply pushing on it, then you can put the vacuum in through there. I know this because I spent 20 minutes trying to solve just this problem before accidentally leaning on it.
I really need an extended skinny attachment specifically for this purpose. The way the vent is designed for my dryer makes every single dryer we’ve owned break. No joke. The one we have now is perfect for the conditions that occur when we use a dryer; it handles excess moisture, has different modes (especially with the extra dry modes) that makes it possible for us to dry our clothes. The design of the vent goes up the wall, over the ceiling, and out to the right side of the house. Because of that, we get a lot of lint stuck in the machine as well as moisture. Most dryers would be too powerful or run too quickly to handle the terrible design of our dryer vent. Unfortunately, this also means that the dryer collects way too much lint; I try to own plastic-free clothing because I hate this issue with the lint and it going outside. I’d rather have an external lint catcher for proper disposal of all lint.
I'm an appliance repair tech. It takes less time to disassemble it and wipe it out directly than vacuuming it if you get good at it, but if these were common place I'd have 2 fewer appointments a month.
This is the reason I want a 3d printer and the reason I never want a dryer again. Mine caught fire, thankfully I stayed in the garage after turning it on and noticed the black smoke. It didn't burn bc of the lint, the insulation just went woosh out the blue.
You can most likely remove that whole screen cover from the dryer to make the task much easier. Thats what i do with mine. Pull out the screen, unscrew two screws easy peasy
Hey, im an appliance repair tech, and you probably need to have your vent line cleaned. Poor airflow causes that gunk to back up a lot, and I could only imagine what made it into the cabinet of the dryer lol

One day, I swear, 3D printers will be a household necessity, like washer/dryer, and everyone will have one.
That is a interesting way to solve the issue, for people like me that doesn't have a 3D printer a screwdriver will do the trick
I usually use just a simple rubber hose that I attached the end of the vacuum to get down in there. Being flexible it can move around a lot easier.
A shop-vac blower will work great. Plus chances are your hose to the exterior is built-up which is likely why the lint backed-up.
