Well I hope that you would do more power by the apocalypse games as it is I'm thinking about really looking into doing some more for one thing I'll be honest I'm not really as much into the crunchiness of official dungeons & dragons CorePower by the apocalypse is a lot more similar to how my group tends to play dungeons & dragons very much rules light. But when you were describing what are hearts the first thing that came to my mind is you could actually use this to play Shazam. Because that's exactly what Shazam is is he's an ordinary boy when he says the word Shazam he turns into a superhero using the glitter heart book.

I absolutely love the World of Darkness splats (e.g. Vampire, Werewolf, Changeling) for both the New WoD and the Old WoD. Not sure what they changed when they migrated New WoD to Chronicles of Darkness. Changeling the Lost was my favorite, but I ran a game that was predominately a Vampire the Requiem setting, but the players were a diverse cast of Vampires, Werewolves, Mages, Changelings, and Geists. One of each actually. It was a fun game, and everyone enjoyed it. Promethean is the Frankenstein splat by the way.
It is too bad you never got to play, else I believe Changeling the Lost would have been much higher on your list.

Tails o Equestria is one of my favorites. There is a fan made expansion that does Tails of Fallout Equestria that adds a lot more content to the game and overhauls the combat system but still keeps it fast and engaging. Its meant for Post Apocalyptic but it can do just about any other time period as well.

  • @Hromovlad1
    @Hromovlad1 4 года назад

Fun fact, I played World of Darkness before I played Dungeons & Dragons
Vampire the Masquerade was my second ever tabletop RPG (the first one being the Czech game "Dračí Doupě" - said game is so popular in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, that when the D&D movie came out over here, the distributor got the rights to re-name it after this game instead)
After that I switched to the new World of Darkness, which I loved as it made mixed parties more viable (technically possible in old World of Darkness, but extremely unbalanced)
I played an old crusty fisherman who could turn into a giant Catfish, and was teamed-up with a Changeling with gold-plated skin, and a cheerleader with a baseball bat and a shotgun
Magical girls and Power Rangers have more in common than many people realize. The transforming magical girl genera is a sub-genera of the transforming hero genera, which includes the likes of Kamen Rider and Super Sentai (which Power Rangers was directly based on)
Also, slightly disappointed at the lack of mentions of Exalted and Dark Heresy (or the other Warhammer based RPGs)

Tales of Equestria is very endearing in a good way. Like, combat encounters are called "scuffles" and everyone has such wholesome names. There's little downside too, the villains and challenges are just as difficult as anything in 5e, yet somehow are all naturally G-rated. It's innocence is so genuinely entertaining, and it makes for a very memorable play experiance.

  • @jordentaylor2455
    @jordentaylor2455 3 года назад

The World of Darkness went through it's apocalypse, that's why the chronicles of darkness came to be. Hunters: the reckoning was part of that apocalypse. Tales of Equestria sounds like Savage Worlds. Dice chart sounds like it's out of Lone Wolf. Palladium really needed to tone their rules down. You need to look at Doctor Who RPG and Mutants and Masterminds RPG.

Old WoD all had end of the world stuff built in. They decided to end everything. NWoD is not related aside from borrowing some things, but it's a whole new world, no real relation to what came before. Old WoD was far better when it came to the story. They just came out recently with a 5th Edition that kinda picks back up after the end of the world events from the Old World of Darkness. I think Vampire is the only one out so far though.

I thought only the systems designed for minitiature use like D&D 3.5+, the Dark Eye 4.1+ or Pathfinder 1+ are called tabletop rpgs and I wondered why you have mentioned only storytelling systems in the beginning, but it looks like the naming has changed in my 40 year old rpg playing history without me noticing it. )-;

SCION is your Percy Jackson game, and good news for you it's a White Wolf game so much of the system will look familiar to you.
I'd also like to shine some love on a few extra awesome games that I either love or am dying to play.
Cortex System powers Serenity and Battlestar Galactica. It's great fun and very dynamic in a way similar to how you described the Buffyverse/Evil Dead games. Highly recommended if you can find it since it's out of print. There's a new Firefly rpg which I've not gotten to play, but I expect it's similar.
Green Ronin's Adventure Game Engine powers several games including Dragon AGE, The Expanse RPG, and their Fantasy AGE/Modern AGE generic books. I absolutely love this system and I really wish GR would give it more support. It's a 3d6 system so it's super low barrier of entry and highly versatile.
Among the old World of Darkness games, my favorite was Demon the Fallen. You need a mature group to play, but you can tell some incredibly moving stories with this.
Finally two games that I'd love to get the chance to play one of these days: In Nomine and Star Trek Adventures. I've only ever had these recommended to me, but everything I've heard makes them sound really excellent. Maybe someday.
Oh, and honorable mention to Mouse Guard for being both adorable and scarring.

    LOL white wolf 🐺 games
    1. Vampire the Masquerade
    2. Werewolf the Apokolyps
    3. Mage the ascension
    4. Changing the Dreaminh
    5. Wraith (not giest) the oblivion
    6. Mummy the resurrection
    7. Demon the fallen
    8. Promethus the creation??
    9. Hunter the reckoning
The underworld movies came off of a white wolf novel called Blood and Chocolate
The supernatural creatures aren't hidden by a mist, minus the changelings. They all just stay hidden in the world by standing in plain sight.
Vampires have mind manipulation to help preserve the masquerade. While Werewolves have the Delirium they induce when mortals sees them in their Crinos form (or the wolfman) where they justify what they saw.
Mages have paradox that attack them when they show magic to the sleepers (non supernatural people).
Changeling have chemeristy to obscure the view of sight of the true nature of the world. And hide behind their seeming
    Demons have mind manipulation.
    Mummies have ways to hide,
The prometheans are the Frankenstein and i dont remember enough about them.
Then you had humans that were ghost hunters that would jump out their body but nothing is actually seen by mortals.
    And wraith are ghost.
Hunters are normal mortals imbued with powers from God yes that is capital G. Everything else you had right on them.
The old system the end of the world happen then they launched the new system which bombed and was a massive failure. Was horrible really was it sounds better than it runs and plays.
    You had 4th ed
    1. Vampire tge Requiem
    2. Werewolf the Forsake
    3. Mage the Awakening
    4. Changling and the title you presented
    5. Hunter the vigil
All these 4th edition ones failed so bad that Mark Rien-hegan sold tge white wolf company due to constant harassment and death threats (stupid i know) but this is an example of how bad the system was.
Then there is 5th edition which is amazing you should look them up.
    5th edition has
    1. Vampire the Masquerade
This is set 20 years later from the 1995 nights of tge Vampire the Masquerade 3rd or revised.
FYI I was good friends with Mark rien-hegan the creator of the original white wolf. And played it at Gencon when no vampires had powers or clans lol. Anytime you want some 411 on world of darkness or white wolf related titles git me up in DMS I run a 5th edition game of Vampire again hit me up in DMS
Also the additional side books from 3rd were
    1. Kindred of the East - modern nights
    2. Kindred of the Ebony Kingdom - modern nights
    3. VTM Dark Ages - the dark ages
    4. VTM Victorian Ages - Victorian agaes
AFMBE - All Flesh Must Be Eaten is an great RPG 👍
    You should also try Exalted
This is a D&D meets Anime white wolf style great game
Really I couldn't stand the system on Buffy. Angel, AoD it had many issues with DM abuse 😆
Hopefully you read this and reply stay awesome 👌

Witchcraft & Wizadry is a system that is based in Harry Potter. Its created by a GM(Wacksteven) from the twitch channel Tablestory. They also have a RUclips channel.

You might want to try GURPS, and the multitude of books for it that detail some realy awesome things. Some of my favorites are GURPS Banestorm and GURPS Martial Arts.

Wow, talk about nostalgia flashbacks. My friends and I back in high school became friends with the creators at Palladium Games back in the 80s (they would frequent the comic shop we all hung out at). We would help unload shipments at their warehouse and we were paid in RPG books so we all ended up with basically every single book they released throughout the 80s. Good times :) (and oh god do I feel really old now LOL)

My personal choice for GMing is Rolemaster Standard System.. in this system there are packages of skills characters can learn: However just about any character can learn any skill package. This leads to combinations running in the trillions.

I don't understand what was so good about Buddy/Army of Darkness etc - was the system very good compared to d20? Was it that it was based around a tv series so it was really innovative about how it was run?

Ten Candles works very well for a one shot tragic horror using actual candles to burn aspects of your character sheet as the darkness takes you.

The nearest fully fleshed out thing for Percy Jackson is Scion. Lots of elements for the children of gods but it isn't the same as the actual setting. As typical with white wolf it is a bit more adult in presentation.

Honestly while most didn't like it hunter is either my favorite r second favorite in the series. It's great for storytellers who have experience with other games and players who have no idea. I love the game and I would love to run it again

@Matt Lynn it could be very Anita, but you'll need a group who're very... comfortable... with each other. I'd make 100% sure everyone's on board for that kinda game before you even make characters.

Plaid My Little Pony with our group. My wife’s introduction to being a GM. It was fun to play. Simple, quick, and it makes the players get more evolved in the story.

I always saw My Little Pony as an attempt to have a rated G/PG system that is fully developed and yet you can introduce kids to without giving them nightmares.

I tend to prefer generic systems. Fate, Savage World, Cyphers. I like worlds that build off of those but the world has never been the draw of a system for me, usually I can adapt it anyways. I do really want to try Knives in the Dark though...

I'll second Changling...it (and my personal favorite Sin Eaters) are fantastic for some creepy vibes or otherworldly weirdness. If you're looking for weird btw, I'd also suggest the game Troika. Very bizarre in a "Douglas Adams / Terry Pratchett" kind of bizarre.
