When I first watched it I don’t even think it was bad, it was just mid to me. If anything compared to most exorcist I think it’s above average but that’s not saying much.
Dude. My friend was in this movie. He's the guy they interview in the diner at the end. Logan. We were all in theatre school and he told us he did a tiny indie movie over the summer so nobody was expecting to see it let alone see it become a pretty major horror movie. I don't know if he made any money past what they initially paid him but from what I remember he said it was a fun experience and the main actress did all of the body contortions herself which was super impressive.
1. This movie is great… up until the end. 2. The boots were a way to hold the actor in place when Nell bends backwards during the exorcism. They just disguised it as a nice character moment. Low-budget, creative filmmaking.
ngl It kinda pissed me off that throughout the video he compared him to like half a dozen different actors and characters but not a single mention of Howard XD
okay, so I feel the need to play devil's advocate here, (budum tsss) His entire thing is like he goes in and does a fake exorcism to try and make the "possessed" person feel better, he's of the opinion that it's a mental issue not an actual possession which is the case like 99% of the time, where he goes wrong is he doesn't say 'Hey, maybe seek therapy for this person who was just "possessed".' he could even throw out a line like 'it could help with some trauma that she might understandably go through after being a demon's meat suit' or something like that so that they'll actually do it and follow up.
@@mattmccomas1 I'd agree. For me, the best exorcism films play with the ambiguous nature of possession v mental illness (which is why The Exorcism of Emily Rose will never be topped for me). This film does a pretty good job of diving into that.
@@levischorpioen I liked Emily rose until they made it clear what side they were on. They should have left it ambiguous, especially with how horrible the poor girl it was inspired by was treated.
The cool thing about this movie is that it's kind of a take on the '70s doc MarJoe, about an evangelical preacher deciding to reveal how much of a scam it was. Super fascinating. Should be on a doc episode.
I own both Last Exorcism and the sequel on dvd. Second one is actually totally worth a watch. The reference to Last Exorcism was The Last Exorcism of cotton, the second movie actually continues the storyline. Not great, but worth it.
Back in the day, me my little brother and my cousin when we were bored would put on a movie chosen at random skip to the last 10-15 minutes of the movies watch the end and fill in the rest with whatever messed up story we wanted to fit that end. This movie made that really interesting 😂
Actually The Last Exorcism 2 is pretty solid... To this standards. You should give it a go, it's quite fun and has an interesting ending. Much much love Mista, you are the best.
I was in Middle School when a group of friends went to see this. This was my first scary movie and I was unable to sleep for two nights after watching it!! Thanks for the memories GG
A few years before this film I got to work with this film's co-writer Huck Botko on a short film of his as part of a series of shorts he made for underground film festivals.
Speaking of haunting things... I got a kit-cat clock with the rocking tail and eyes. Only... the rocking mechanism hasnt worked for about 3 years. Until a few days ago, when it just inexplicably started rocking again... and it hasnt stopped. Its been a day and a half... so its not like... someone bumped it and it was moving for a moment... so... I think my clock is haunted
I watched this as my first pg-13 in theaters for my 13th birthday and I was traumatized for months 😂 I was absolutely convinced that would happen to me. I love any movie that pokes fun at tropes so I can appreciate it now 14 years later. It will probably always stick with me in this lifetime 😅
3:29 there's an anime called "Blue Exorcist" that is about an exorcism academy. The first episode is incredible though the anime overall is kind of hit or miss. IIRC it catches up too quickly to the manga and so the ending of the first season deviates significantly. The follow-up anime which just released retcons some of the first season for this reason.
I’ve been asking for this movie since you been watching all the exorcism movies. I always loved this one, the guy who played cotton did a great job in better call Saul as well.
3:08 nah I think that's just his voice, he was one of the lead roles in Better Call Saul and that's how he talked pretty much the entire time he was on-screen
I saw this one in the theatre and it was wild as hell! But the actress was actually contorting herself, that was not effects, but actually her! So damn creepy looking.
I brought this movie years ago thinking it was another exorcism movie I'd watched with a friend (they were both set in Louisiana , young pregnant girl, documentary/ found footage style) but the one I watched originally the reaping was "much better " - definitely give it a watch
I was thinking, "This dude kind of looks like Woody Harrelson." Then you said he kind of looks like Woody Harrelson. I also thought he looked like the dude from Better Call Saul, and he is the dude from Better Call Saul.
I remember I watched this movie way past midnight, the surround sound so loud the couch was shaking, I don't recall much of this movie but I know it freaked me the hell out
3:30 May I interest you in Blue Exorcist? Don’t finish the first season if you do. It’s got an original ending because of lack of published material at the time. Still a good series, though.
It's the ending that always gets me. I don't wanna leave a spoiler for those who haven't seen it but I'm always like daaaaaamn at the end won't say why tho 😂

I've only seen it once but have you heard of a movie called "the possession of Michael King" i remember it being like a mix of this movie and paranormal activity. I remember liking it and the bug skittering sounds freaking me out
3:35 I mean technically there’s Blue Exorcist, a kid finds out he’s satan’s son and was raised by an exorcist so he goes to a school to become an exorcist with the goal to kill satan
I remember really liking the ending of this movie. Like, when it came time to actually show up and do the work, he was ready. All the years being a charlatan was practice for the one big show and he didn't back down. Like maybe he really wanted it to be real deep down but he was bitter and skeptical bc he felt tricked so he tricked other people. But I haven't seen the movie since it came out so maybe I treated the script in my head 😂

Tbh there are so many bad exorcism movies I didn't even know which this video was even talking about.
I just started the video and I'm in the same boat lol 😅 like uh which one was that?
This isn't a bad one. It's one of the more interesting ones, actually. Just kind of went off the rails at the end.
not to mention he did a review of The Last EXORCIST as well, and this is The Last EXORCISM. one letter difference 😭

That's so cool!! Given how over budget it was I really hope he got some residuals (unsure if that's the right term)
Last Exorcism is a movie that either makes or breaks in the last act. But Patrick Fabian owns this role so hard.
Howie :)
I was listening to the video and thought i was tweaking thinking "Is this Howard?" Lmao
you can tell GG is a dad by how loud that sneeze was
1. This movie is great… up until the end.
2. The boots were a way to hold the actor in place when Nell bends backwards during the exorcism. They just disguised it as a nice character moment. Low-budget, creative filmmaking.
But she also loves those damn boots so much so that she ends up in them at the end of the sequel when she leaves the house to damn the world lol.
3 and 1/2 minutes in and I'm surprised GG hasn't noticed that Cotton is played by Howard from Better Call Saul.
kinda sad ab it ngl. Point knocked off for gg on this one
Plus it has Louis Herthum (Dolores Abernathy's father from "Westworld").
Doubt GG has seen BCS considering he says Patrick Fabian looks like Woody Harrelson and Joel McHale lmao
ngl It kinda pissed me off that throughout the video he compared him to like half a dozen different actors and characters but not a single mention of Howard XD
This is what happened to Howard before he became a lawyer. This is how he made a lot of money
Cotton is also the actor from the DCOM original movies Twitches starring Tia and Tamara Mowry btw in case anyone else couldn't figure it out lol

OH HOLY SHIT THAT'S WHO HE IS!

Yeah before the internet got it's rotten little hands on it.
I'd argue Blue Exorcist is Exorcism Academy in a way. Rather action filled exorcism, but still exorcism.
First thought after that he asked haha
Just came to the comments to say the same thing
hey if the chanting and prayers isnt doin the trick you gotta give satan a tune up
Also Soul Eater 🤌🏻✨
D. Gray man too
“Someone should make an anime of that” ah, that made my little weeb heart burst with how many exorcist academy anime there are.
in the u.s. charismatic churches have much looser standards for who can perform an exorcism than the catholic church does.
I don't mean to joke but that's like in South Park when the kids play cops. The imaginary FBI has a higher standard for entry.

Wrong. Cotton is a great character. Flawed but overall a good person. This is one of the most underrated exorcism movies in (fairly) recent memory.
