It is very satisfying thank you man for turning me on to this guy's channel not only is he a very stand-up guy but you can just tell he's good at what he does and he appreciates and loves it
Gerald doing what he does, love the attention to detail and creative ways around a problem. You’re giving away your secrets…but, can’t give away the hand that accomplishes the work! 👍🏽 Attention to details!! 🔥🔥👍🏽👍🏽🇺🇸
Thank you for shareing how you fix the inevateable damage that happens when you race. It's amazing how long those engines manage to hold togeather when pushed to the limit each race and the skilled surgeons that manage to resrore them to health.
I've been to Gerald's a few times since I was a kid. My friend's dad Howard Whitson used him to build all his ford engines and several others I know have used him. it's great seeing the amount of knowledge he has that would normally just disappear out of existence one day shared online. totally understand not sharing all the secrets but simple things like ball valves on air tools blew my mind. thanks for sharing a part of your world with us.
Gerald u are by far one hell of a engine genius , thx for taking us along for the ride Damon is lucky to have you in OKC nice and close instead of traveling to a different state
I had no idea Gerald was Damon’s engine builder. I’ve seen Chief take work to Gerald. Damon is hurting feelings at NPK this year. Great work Gerald. Your the man💪
That is really interesting how the sleeves come out like that! Damon seems like he was lucky that all the damage is repairable. I’m can only imagine how much it would be to replace the block along with all the parts. You are a very talented machinist Gerald! Always a great video from you!!👌👌👌
Always look forward for a video from you! Retired, and just watch the performance and all the technical aspects that has changed from back when. You are a master of your craft no doubt! Ronnie East Tennessee
Outstanding Gerald Outstanding, cleaned up nice, i hope Damon gets at least 2 wins this season, i wish i had the money for you too build him another Engine and have spare Rod's, Pistons, he's going to need a freshen up before the end of the season.

I was wondering if you guys could shed a little light on a problem I am having with my 400 SBC engine.I am 75 years old and I am trying to figure out why engine carries next to nothing oil pressure at idle and will go up around 30 lbs at 2200 RPM cruising around 55 MPH! It also will run warm (around 200 to 220) and I Had 2 10 inch fans pushing air and steel blade fan pulling air with a high volume water pump! Engine has been bored .030 , decked and balanced! It runs great and is quiet! I Have a very nice 55 Belair 2 DrHtop I've owned for 52 Years ànd the engine is in this car! I know you guys are busy but this problem is on my Bucket List so any help you can offer will be deeply appreciated! Thanks a bunch guys and put out some more of your great videos! Bill Osborn Evansville , IN.
Hey BRE! I'm so fascinated at your work techniques you having so much knowledge on all the machines and the processes to repair this equipment back to specks for these racers very Cool! The tutorials and videos are perfect!🤔😉👍📹💯✔️👋👋👋👋
Great forensic analysis of the cause of the rod failure. Knowing the exact cause is really important to the racer so he can either change parts or in this case, adjust his maintenance program. I was amazed here that only one rod broke. Kind of unusual that the sister rod next to the failed rod also didn’t fail although it looks like it was on the verge. BTW, those are pretty thin cylinder sleeves there. Interesting method for removing them. Can also see why the engine makes so much power for a BBC. Those heads are amazing.
Just found your channel and...KILLER! If all you could see in your videos was just the actual work being done, it's dead on where l take my motors. A lot of shops talk the talk but walk, well you know. Marple Racing out of Winchester VA. and if you don't know where it's located, boy howdy, get ready for a fun filled ride. @@BrandRacingEngines Yeah I know, but I was just saying in general u have to be very careful selecting your parts these days. More so than usual. I know u see it everyday lol
Nice job GB ! Who was the mfg of that billet block ? I definitely enjoyed the vid with a great view! KUDO'S to Damon... he is showing them all how to get it done! Respectfully, Seth
Lucky you were able to get that fixed for him because he's literally running up front right now in the points... You know he's doing well when you got other racers crying that he's got an illegal engine combo because they can't beat him automatically he must be cheating..I knowIf I was cheating I wouldn't let my engine builder post videos about it and I wouldn't talk about it myself , hopefully Jim howe sees this video and feels extra special ..
I could watch you troubleshooting engines all day. Hard to do cause a lot of people think it’s always black and white which is far from the case with engines.
The way you pulled the sleeve out with the puller, is that method ok to use on most types of sleeved motors, eg: rover v8, thanks for sharing your knowledge
Great work!! So many videos about broken aluminum rods trashing the engine. Is aluminum that much better than steel H-beam or titanium rods? Or even CF rods? Good work, good luck!
Awesome. You might be able to answer a question that I've had and don't think I've seen. Some of those guys and gals run aluminum rods also. Has anyone tried sleeving them where the rod bolts screw in and now that I've seen this video where the rod pins go through? 🤷. I'm here just trying to learn. Them variables on those ecu's are like the line coding for cnc. Gotta make sure those alpha numerics and decimals and zeros and numbers are in the right position. 😁. TY for sharing.
Its Crazy to see the difference in workshops between nr 1 and 2 in no prep kings. Noonan has marble floors and rooms are cleaner than a hospital ready for heart surgery. It's good to see you don't have to spend crazy money to win.
When we torque plate hone a block that is o-ringed should the wire be installed with the torque plate to represents the clamp load or is that splitting hairs too much? Not a test Gerald I just want to learn from your past experience.
That's surprisingly little damage for such a big 'bang' Pretty amazing it didn't punch a huge hole in the side of case, billet block must be incredibly strong. Nice use of Portapower (?) ram much easier (and quieter), what interference fit are you using? (around 0.005"?)
Have you always worked on Damon's engine or just since he started NPK and got in a bind before Tulsa? And do you do any of the other Street outlaw guys engines besides Big Chief I know there's quite a few in your neck of the woods
Thank you so much Mr Brand very interesting the repair of the engine, i guess unless you follow Damon its pretty hard to image a small home town machine shop, a billet BBC that is currently holding number one in points again all done with knowledge and exper and not saying it didnt cost money to rebuild but iam sure that set up even with Matt's big 9's on it the engine is still way less expen than one of the Pro Line or Noonans that many in NPK had major engine failures before Damons engine failed... So my Question to you Mr Brand is if Damon and Criag are on the road during there grueling schedule if they carry spare Rods in these case it would have maybe extended the engine til the mid season break but with the pistons wrist pin journals that sloppy would it have been worth there time to install new rods at the track with the old pistons or just bring it back to you for service? either way 51 runs with two known tuning issues that may have sped the failure up it still out preformed engines double the price. Has a Automotive shop owner up here in Mi its real easy to relate about sticking with Mom and Pop shops they WILL have your back . Again thank you for not just this video but all that you have made love the content and exper .....
It definitely shows good oil pressure and set clearances you can run an engine at full nuts with regular rod changes it didn't happen over night took years of combined trial an error.
Wow! That damage looked a lot worse to me than you made it seem. So I assume all new rods/ pistons, repaired the crank, maybe a valve or two? Re sleeved a couple and cleaned up the cam area. Could have been much, much worse. The waller on the rods is just normal wear?
I remember freaking out a lil when I found out that Proline wants those rods changed every 25 runs…. I’d imagine running 7 races back to back makes keeping the motors fresh and on a maintenance schedule difficult.
stevie fasts runs hemi aluminum rods to 18 passes then changes them , some guys go to 25-30 passes but its chance you take , in this BBC its best to probable change less than 20 passes also , the way they are wallered out tells a story .
Once you get a system down rolling bearing and or replacing the rods is at most a half a days job or 45 minutes if you race top fuel, or some alcohol dragster/funny car teams
That engine is a real piece of art when its all together ! What a quality build to go out and put all the hemis on notice ! Great job!

Besides expensive is there any reason you prefer to use music wire over “fuel hoops” when O-ringing a block?
The hoops work good in the heads. But the step in the sleeve make it hard to cut the groove that deep.
