I've just realized the modern Dune soundtrack may have been inspired by Homeworld. Probably just coincidence though, both are inspired by nomadic/desert cultures' music
The new Battlestar Galactica, too. Which is weirdly circular because the original game was supposed to be a BSG game but they couldn't get the license.
part of why I loved Battlestar Galactica immediately was the music when they had dogfights reminding me of Cataclysm and Homeworld.
Curious what you unfiltered, not sponsered take on the story and characters will be.
From everything I have seen this is a wait for sale (just 6 skirimsh maps, small fleet rosters, among others). Probably get it in the Autumn sale or something.
Will agree that the looks and sound/music are top tier.
Steam views are interesting. Seems to be a disconnect between content creators/influencers versus players.
its an ad video what do you expect. notice how he didn't specify he could say whatever he wanted. and all the non sponsored videos say the game is shite. Zade wanted some $$ and he compromised on integrity for that.

"Old mid-range should run pretty damn well". Lol. "It sounds fantastic": did you hear the soundtrack? Maybe this creator has very low expectations... Ohh RIGHT, he talks about the sounds but has the music muted in gameplay. Yeah, that sounds fantastic right? Then he talks about the dialogue in the campaign but fails to disclose the campaign is absolute dogshit. HE says the soundtrack is excellent, but just look at many of the steam reviews state how the music is horrible. Take a look for yourselves.
Then he talks about controls and then admits he never tried them himself in this one instance. Why are you even bringing it up then? This is a review and you are talking about things that you've never even tried. Pathetic. "There are tons of options to change the controls", but... did you even try?
He played on "medium" and had troubles. The AI is horribly dumb... Did you even play the game?
He talks about the 3v3 and then said "maps" as in plural. He clearly has not tried and seen the ONLY single 3v3 map for multiplayer. This is a review and doesn't even state this. Pathetic.
I'll wait for the definitive edition.
But damn, I would love to see a remake of HW Cataclysm/Emergence with this engine.
That would be awesome.
at this point I replayd HW1 and HW2 too many times, but would totally replay CATA

As someone who loved Cataclysm and Homeworld for its single-player campaigns and replayed them many times over the years, I had really hoped HW3 would have another stellar campaign. It seems like there’s quite a bit of work to be done still to make the experience what I hoped it would be. I’ve waited this long, I can keep waiting until they hopefully fix / update a bunch of these items.
Hopefully they were able to get some money through initial sales to keep them going for a while.

i love the game personaly its super fun the game just came out like today loving the new graphics and sound effects and super fun gameplay if people want a homeworld 1 clone that has everything from there just play hw1 forever and let younger people play newer games
hw1 has more depth than hw3.
You're going to see the sponsored reviews first because they have had the game for a week or more already. Fig backers got it this past Friday, and everyone else just got it on Monday. Expect the review floodgates to open next week after the actual majority of people have had a chance to play it.
They bought off Tons of youtubers, same ten minute video everytime , my feed was full of them , just made me suspicious tbh , since I haven't seen any other game do it
My thoughts on this...
Gameplay: Good, but too many active abilities.
Scale: Smaller than the previous games, but it's so to use that new cover and tunnel mechanics that are connected to asteroids, debris and superstructures. Those along with utilizing the turrets...though why have those when HW2 had gun platforms that worked better.
Maps: Smaller due to the above, but damn aren't they gorgeous. Pity there is so little of them for skirmish/multi.
Skirmish: Even on its weakest, the AI has a glaring advantage over the player for some reason. This wasn't the issue in the previous games. Hopefully this will be fixed.
Story and Cinematics: Story is sadly fan-ficky and the cutscenes lack this feel that the previous games had. Maybe because instead of seeing the actual people we had these normal static novel-like animations that set the feel for the series. Going full cinematic with actual animations killed that feel.
Campaign: If you ignore the story and the fact it feels somewhat short, it's actually fun.
Should I recommend it? If you are a fan of the series and don't mind the story, buy it or do so on sale. It's not on the same level as the previous two games and Cataclysm/Emergence, but it's not bad...if you ignore the weak story that is.
A game for modern audiences lol
Based on the accidentally comedic leaked cutscene; the character model look very dated and the plot heavily implied the fantasy aspect rather grounded plotline like the previous game.

The first two games were Exodus and Revelations in space respectfully, with Karan getting psychic attacked by the Taiidan emperor in 1 and becoming the messiah in 2. Cataclysm was spaceship zombies. How was it grounded and not science fantasy before?

Love the visual style of Homeworld - never played it though, seems kinda daunting :D
To me Homeworld is more about story gameplay come in second but I heard people complaint about story of the game make me quite hesitate to get the game this early specially with this AAA price consider how lack of post story content this series usually have and again only 2 factions? (at least it would nice if they give us sub faction with some 2-3 unique ships). From the look graphic and ship design look amazing more appeal than most space game I found on steam if there's any reason that make me want to pick this game up would be this. XD
Also.. after playing BAR every time I saw wreckage left from destroyed units in any other RTS game away make me want to send worker to reclaim it for resource but too bad seem like this game didn't have this feature which make it feel miss opportunity consider resource in HW game away run out really fast.
Firstly... what's wrong with purple and green as a colour scheme! I can't wait for this to unlock and I've been avoiding spoilers so far. Nebulas, dust clouds and asteroids were one thing, I can't wait to interact with some of these megastructures.
21 years for a game with almost no new content... that will sell the rest on dlc... the big budget rts continues on the same mistake of not treating their games as full releses.
The sad thing is this was funded by the community and in return they gave us a dump spammy Homeworld
I haven't tried it yet, but I think most people will be happy with a new story, updated graphics, and largely familiar gameplay
@@jakel2837 well from what i see the story i seriously doubt. they put momy issues and family drama on the space jorney game... and man grafics and familiar gameplay is not ae xcuse for the lack of content of the game.
Oh, and there's the Wargames mode, which is brand new. Fucking hell. I swear, people are braindamaged.
As far as i am aware the only new content being sold is three factions. The war games rogue-lite co op is a whole new game mode included with the campaign, skirmish and mod support. Free map/artifact drops are being promised in between the faction drops. I don’t understand why so many have been anticipating a b1tch on this for so long. My main concern is they avoid modernity.
The story has Netflix-story adaptations and animations somehow looks cartoony
But I do hope they add/improve the mechanics and especially cant wait for the modders like FX Galaxy add into this

Personally, I am enjoying the game. I recently played through Remaster and DoK. This is Homeworld. The story isn't great, but the gameplay is Homeworld, but it's leaned down. It reminds me of some of the objective specific missions in HW2. The camera is worse than the others due to obstruction from the derelicts, but it's a small gripe.
The first game came out in 1999. That is a long time to build hype and expectations. Older fans aren't going to have their standards met. My expectations weren't, but I am still enjoying this.

Personally I ended up hating the story and its insultingly vague and milquetoast themes straight out of baby's first screenwriting class. I also thought the cutscene presentation in particular was incredibly inappropriate for a Homeworld game, what with the bouncy as hell animations looking straight out of a Pixar movie for some unfathomable reason.
(Seriously, who the hell made that choice? It's so incredibly baffling to me. That's like making a documentary about the horrors of the second world war in the style of Dragon Ball or something.)
That said, I like the roguelike mode and the basic RTS gameplay is enjoyable enough to me. Hope they end up really fleshing that mode out, I think it has potential. Oh and the actual presentation during gameplay is absolutely fantastic in my mind.

The game didnt get 6/10 on steam just because of trolls.
I heard many negative things about the game that would chase away any homeworld fan.
I myself expected more than hw2 gameplay wise but seems like we got less than hw1.
I hope the modding scene will fix the game and maybe i will buy it in the far future when it ll cost way less money.
Im sick of roadmaps, they're exhausting, i get fatigue.

Sadly, they don’t put much effort into single player content anymore. They expect multiplayer to carry their barebones release of a game that is completely inferior to their old games besides the gorgeous graphics.
I have no trust in this developer. Most likely it's just meh without a realised endgame.

@@Dragonborn1178 Nah, he's right. Just watched a full playthrough: Without spoiling much - its pretty bad. Not terrible but generally speaking bad.
The story is awful, unlike the originals.
The missions are bland and have bad pacing, again, unlike the originals.
Enemy variety is non-existent. Aesthetically and thematically the originals had a much more diverse set of factions AND ship designs within said factions. This game has nothing. Allied units are differently sized variations of the HW2 Hiigaran Battlecruiser/destroyer. Enemy units are just the Sajuuk. End boss is a paper plane.
If you are a fan of what made Homeworld 1, Cataclysm and Homeworld 2 memorable games, DO NOT waste money on this garbage.

I'm speaking from my experience with their previous game Hardspace: Shipbreaker.
The dev team is kinda incompetent with bad writers.
Hardspace was a fundamentally good game, lead writer just wanted to force a commie labor story on us, when the community wanted a sandbox. He wasn’t writing this game though, Martin Cirulis is credited writer and he wrote the story for the first game. Deserts of Kharak was also good (the retroactive epic games store EULA is irritating), crossfire legion (generic license) and Minecraft legends (designed for younger players) were middling.
An unfortunate review... kinda feels like being sponsored has made it so you can only say good things.
im not sponcered i baught the fleet command edition and loving every minute of it its more like people want to crap on things by word of mouth and you people wonder why we dont get any new rts games lol
@@Dragonborn1178 WE do not get many new RTSes coz almost none can do a good one... If you like to waste your time on RTS which are why worse, than old ones, but looks nice, then fine, it is your time and money, but I am not going to support them.
They changed story in the last stage of development, there are datamined cutscenes and there were layoffs in 2023. Also some pink haired human is resposible for these changes... Maybe even a scope of mechanics was lowered coz of it.
Look at Era One project of a game, which is made by modders of Homeworld games to see a good space game for comparison.
Anyway, Gearbox made bad Alien Colonial Marines, Duke Nukem Forever and now Homeworld 3.
So only 2 factions, story was meh at best and seemed too intrusive for the gameplay.
Homeworld 2 is just better than #ModernGaming
I hope Zade got well paid for this.

To my regret, the Homeworld franchise has completely deteriorated. If you do not take into account the graphics, then there is not a single bit of progress in it, there is only a regression, with a lot of absurdity. Now, in the space of Homeworld dunes lie and winds blow, the icebergs with the sea at their feet are floating and every asteroid or piece of debris is motionless, the Mothership can take off from the planet surface by means maneuverable engines, while the characters themselves have turned into feminists with black commanders - it all looks disgustingly stupid for Homeworld franchise. Yes, franchise have had unrealistic moments before, but now, the idiocy exceeded all limits several times. Probably the game was made only for brainless youngsters and now Homeworld has no respect for its old fans, who still played the first games in the 2000s, since the game has lost its original style of storytelling (no stylized black and white cutscenes). Instead of black and white movies, the player sees cartoons, copied from the material library of Disney Princess movies. Absolutely everything in the game - its plot, characters, gameplay, game mechanics, damage model, physics, ballistics, AI, performance - all this looks secondary. None of this looks revolutionary or ultra-modern. All ideas, events or unit designs are copied from previous games or other movies, like Star Wars and as a result, are implemented worse than the originals. Everything listed above (except for graphics) is no better than what was done 21 years ago! Some parts of the gameplay, such as the lack of hyperspace with inhibitors, subsystems on ships, lack shipyards, research modules, attackable engines/weapons, are a real shame. This game is not looks like Homeworld, this game shouldn't be called "Homeworld 3" - it's "Deserts Of Kharak v 2.0" because it looks the same flat, undeveloped, with feminist characters and other fashionable crap, from which the viewer is already sick. Conclusion is that: This game is made significantly worse than any previous game in the Homeworld series. This is a hoax, that was wrapped in a beautiful graphic wrapper. After 21 years of inactivity (when HW2 came out) this content looks like an epic failure. I would not advise anyone to buy this, at least in this condition...
All I need to know is that mechanics are butchered, so it is going to be at best good coop game. Also there seems to be lack of details in how your fleet behave.
Homeworld does not great look or high fidelity technologies...
Unless Volound says that they bring back mechanics and make them work + redesigned some BS, then it is just an another fancy looking modern, shallow game design.
i love the game been playing it since friday its a double a game not some tripple a game go back to your games then with micro transactions if you rather play them or a game from 1998

It is just a nice looking, smash things together game,, no depth at all. Also story and maybe more were changed in last stage of development, coz some pink haired human from Gearbox did not like what they made. There are datamined cutscenes from old version. Gearbox also deleted an article with her or something.

since i didnt play the orignial homeworld games to death i loke homeworld 3 i dont think all the hate the game recieved is justified theres cover system amazing visuals cool ship battles and more fuck the super purests that cry about the new game not being like a game from the 90s
You like it only coz you do not know any better... Fights and ships behavior is a joke. All atack one target when in formation and do not split up to evade. Also ship designs with weapon placements is just bad and sily.... Sometimes coz of it ships can fire only 1 out of 4 main guns.

Denuvo is there also. I never managed to see the end of a multiplayer match because it always desyncs. This was reported by many people in the demo, but ignored.
There are other points, the game was simplified a lot also, missing a lot of features from previous games that were promissed in the crowdfunding.
The visuals and audio are amazing, but that just makes it more hearthbreaking. the potential for greatness was there, but the fked it up.
Everything you need to know: Don't buy it. It's kinda lame. Worse than COH3 and DOW3.
