    @ComradeMarx1017 11 месяцев назад +1

    That's pretty damn impressive.
    How the hell did you get it so close? I mean that's a lot of stuff to take into consideration...the specific console, the EQs, the compressors...I mean to buy the stuff used would be a fortune in and of itself.
    Was this all programs? Just...wow...

    • @perrystanleyNumber9
      @perrystanleyNumber9  11 месяцев назад +2

      Hi ,thanks! No program at all. All human (me)It's just knowledge of what guitars and amps they had during the dates the song was recorded, knowledge of the equipment that was used at Abbey road at the time, and having the guitars , drums and bass that they would have used. The hardware and software plugins for eq boards and compressors and even the J37 tape machine are now available. Being a huge Beatles fan and engineering music for years on my own , you learn how things work.... and of course you need to be able to play the instruments. I have been actively chasing Beatles equipment and tone for about 50 years. I have a passion for vintage gear and have most of the guitars the Beatles used. A lot of them the same years as theirs. It's been a passion that keeps me happy. I started this channel to share what I've learned , launch original music, and discuss my favorite topics with people who have the same interests. Thanks for watching!

      @@perrystanleyNumber9 Well your effort is definitely worth it, and I'm exceptionally impressed! Did you by any chance read Geoff Emerick's book for insight? It wouldn't' surprise me if you had, because it's incredibly informative. Cheers, my friend, and again...fantastic accomplishment!

    • @perrystanleyNumber9
      @perrystanleyNumber9  11 месяцев назад

      Thank you! I own and have read pretty much every book on the recording of the Beatles. Definitely Emerick's book Here There And Everywhere among them! The best book on the recording gear is Recording the Beatles. It outlines literally every piece of studio gear at Abbey Road that the Beatles used and explains what they were used for. Emerick's book obviously was great because he details what he actually did on some the sessions and what happened during recording. Another cool book is All you Need is Ears by George Martin. Thanks so much for watching!@@ComradeMarx1017

  • @IamMagPie
    @IamMagPie 11 месяцев назад +1

    Amazing work. This is like watching an artist painting an exact copy of the "Mona Lisa", getting every single brush-stroke correct. I wonder how much is playing-technique, how much is strings, how much is guitar and pickups and how much of the sound comes from other gear like compressors and such. Could someone get close with very cheap guitars and good post-production? Or are the guitars the most important part of the puzzle?

    • @perrystanleyNumber9
      @perrystanleyNumber9  11 месяцев назад +3

      First off, thanks. I think the answer to your question varies depending on what song we are talking about. You can play Beatles on anything, but to replicate the sounds of the recordings I think having the right guitar gets you there much faster. Playing yesterday "for instance sounds great on many acoustics if the player can play it well. However when I play it on the 64 Texan the magic of the record kicks in. The details of the record start to be heard. Same thing for the keys and bass. The Rick sound with flats just gets that sound so quickly. Put it through the Vox UL730 and suddenly you're getting the Pepper tones without trying too much. There definitely is character added with the compression for sure. Especially the RS124 on bass. The Fairchild too. It sounds close without them , but when they go on it's wow! There it is!. When I did "Get Back"the plugs got the sound so close. The bass sound suddenly had the characteristic of the record. It was instant recognition. I was surprised. Amps make a very huge difference too. Certain amps pop out certain sounds. The Bassman does that , so does a vintage AC30. When Michael Sokil came over to record his cover of "Help"I got to hear my own gear played back to me and it was a treat. I normally just hear myself playing. We both were smiling because he nailed the playing naturally, but the sound was sooo authentic because he was basically using what The Beatles were using and it makes a difference. Strings can make a difference... The gauge, flat, round, can all help you shape the sound. But if you are playing the wrong guitar sometimes it's just obvious. I've noticed the mics can make a difference too . I usually use a sm57 to mic a guitar. When I started using the U47 clone it sounded closer to the record. Not because of better quality, it was more about the character. Even things like percussion can clearly be heard to have a certain character. The bongos Ringo used didn't sound anything like typical modern bongos today, and they sound different when comparing them , especially on recordings. I mean they had Aluminum bongos, quite a unique character. I think guitar/instruments first , amp second, mic third, and then compression EQ, reverb etc. The Beatles sounded like The Beatles wherever they recorded. Obviously the player has a lot to do with it too.

    A few months ago at my favorite local music store I plugged a Telecaster into a Fender Bass Amp and quite by accident got something damn close to the Day Tripper tone! Go figger...

    • @perrystanleyNumber9
      @perrystanleyNumber9  11 месяцев назад +1

      Sure, that makes sense. It is trebley and maybe the gauge helped. You can get close with several types of pickups, but of course at that time the Beatles didn't have a tele. You probably know they did later on Pepper when Mac had the esquire , and then of course the rosewood telecaster that George had. I think it's cool when you accidentally come across a tone you weren't expecting.I love when that happens.

    Really want to hear a Cool demo of a Gibson 345ES, check out that pedal show, Mick puts one through all it's paces, stereo, phasing, varitone, his just sounds so Glorious sound wise. Between this video and his Those were some special guitars, just wonder where George's went, maybe they strapped that one on the outside of the Car and it got run over. Someone please ask Ringo or Paul if they know, and also which Gretsch's George for sure lost. I am really surprised that back in the 70's or 80's Guitar Player magazine never interviewed any of the Beatles about guitars, this kind of stuff was right up their Alley.

    Great sound! How do you know how much to compress? I just cant figure it out.

    • @perrystanleyNumber9
      @perrystanleyNumber9  3 месяца назад

      I compress until I achieve the sound I'm looking for. I never really know how much until it hits the right spot. I already have an understanding of how the gear will affect the sound, but it's often just dialing until it does what I need it to do. This is in the mixing phase after recording generally.
