@@BlackBearForge oh yeahman tons of stuff with the basic idea... thats kinda why I only did the basic steps in my vid... so as to not distract the creative mind of the watcher... let them see possibilities and potential.
I like that you're teaching, and not just a sellout, thank you, John, I have learned so much here, from hook of the week on up, you, sir, are an amazing teacher, and thank you for keeping the tradition of teaching,, alive,, One of your lucky students, Jake Call
Glad you responded to Yamez's challenge! But you should enter so you can win the spike tongs and do more spike projects! Everybody loves spike projects.
Really enjoyed a slightly different video format of just hammering away. I do appreciate the instruction you normal provide in your videos, but it’s also fun to just watch you work. Thanks for another good one!
My grandsons said they found some lizard eggs in June. Made 2 of these and told them they hatched and I caught 2 of them for them. Great project. The Boys really liked them
Nice little lizard John, my grand daughter will love the one I’m going to make now I have seen this. Your spike seems to be a little longer than ours, and my fairies have yet delivered the power hammer but I can make it work. As to your sponsor, it fits, just, you need to eat so do what you need to do, I will always watch, you are a great teacher! Oh the vice dog for spikes, Ihave made one after watching a video of yours a few months ago, great for spikes and have beaten it almost death after finding it so useful for many other things! Time I updated it ! Thanks mate, keep on keeping on!
Well lil feller turned out pretty derned neat. Adding the material around the legs made it look more like they grew there. The open mouth was a clever touch. Pretty kuul Mr John 🙏 Blessed day Sir and well wishes Crawford out ⚒️🧙♂️
That does seem to be the style I have been drawn to. However it is also the number one thing people complain about. So I thought I would try a few weeks worth of less talk and see how it goes. Then I'll hopefully find a happy medium
Black Bear Forge I respect that. I also have been watching the last couple years. I learn better by watching, listening, than trying to do it. I do have a small home made forge and enjoy trying new things and it is all new to me. Please keep the videos gong. Thanks
Very nice! I find that when making small figurines of this type, such as lizards and insects, the legs can be the most difficult. I like what you did with the tail, it looks organic and authentic. I like to take a chisel or do something to make a suggestion of toes in the feet as well. All in all, very nice!
I've watched this video when it came out and Yamaz vidio also I like the running the leg thew the body giving a new twist to learn so I do want to do but waiting till later fall as I have other chores before cold shuts me down. Your lisard was pretty good, But getting into the contest I hope would encourage others and get to see more built Thanks.
Lovely lizard John. I also like this style of video. Although I also love your narration/tutorial style videos, these quiet/sounds of the workshop style videos are very therapeutic for me and help me to relax after a long day of work. I also use videos like this to help me to fall asleep when my brain won't chill at night. So thank you for teaching, but also thank you for relaxing videos like this one.
I am going to try a few weeks worth of less narration just to see how they do. I know the videos I enjoy the most generally only include the important forging details and not a lot of narration.
Great video to give us myriads of ideas to make...in times when many of us have time on our hands. As you were working, all kinds of creatures came to mind. Just got over having cataract surgery and have been "chomping at the bit" to get back out to the forge. I think I might have to make several new design punches for face and body accents. I never liked using RR spikes, but this has gotten me more interested in using them, thanks!
Better not bring that bug in the house, the cat will go nuts.......you are one talented guy John. Maybe SkillShare would be wise to hire you to teach......just sayin' but don't leave us. 😉
The cats were unimpressed. I am actually thinking of doing a more formal online class. But it would be a different approach to what I do here on RUclips.
I don't know about lizard, but to me, that looks like an alligator baby. With a bit different styling and techniques, it would look very much like a baby gator.
Hey John, noticed one of the bolts holding your guillotine tool to the base is a bit loose. Thanks for the videos, you are always my go-to channel for learning about blacksmithing
Glad to see a little time on the little Giant. I have one that I will be putting in the shop this winter. Mine is an older model with a clutch in the drive pulley, no motor on it. What is the stroke per minute, should I be looking for? Thanks John.
Just finished one of ur RUclips vs selling videos about cutting back on videos to make some more money. Could always use your new yolobox thing on days u don't want to edit but want to post videos and just stream ur day switching cameras through that box instead of having to edit anything.

Awesome John! It's definitely a fun little trinket to play with....
Thanks for the idea. I see other possibilities in the idea, perhaps something prehistoric.

Nice lizard Sir , I saw his early video and enjoy that build also
Good looking lizard you got there
This might be one of my favorite videos to date, very fun!
Wow, thanks!

I might need to get in on this. Been looking for things to do at the anvil, outside of what I normally do. Yamez is good people.
That's a neat lizard, and a really good idea for a project!

Thanks
That's a cool little project my friend keep up the great craftsmanship and work forge on my friend
Nice art.
Thank you! Cheers!
Yay! Let's hear it for whimsy! It's good to be smithing for pure joy. Life is not all point and purpose, but sometimes to make a smile.
Very true
Thanks for sharing with us John, great job making the lizard from the railroad spike!
Glad you enjoyed it
haha i really like that! a lot of character to him/her/it! gonna have to make a railroad spike and have a go!
Like your content. So this should be a good one also...if you choose to film it.
🙏 Blessed day best of luck and well wishes

great video.
Yeah been meaning to do one of these

I don't use them often. But this seemed like a good use.
Your little lizard looks like he could get a job selling insurance to me, John
Looks good John. Gonna have to get on this one pretty soon

Do you have a video on how you made the piece that was put in the vise for cutting the mouth , it looks like from some angle iron .

Hello John
I like your little space lizzard
Good looking little creature
All the best have a good new week
Yours Frank
Many thanks
That is one creepy lizard.
This should be an SCP.
Ummm excuse me sir when making knives do I use steel rods?
The shape doesn't matter as much as the type of steel. I am sure there are some knife making channels with better recommendations.
put some screw holes in its feet and we have a lizard hook.

I'm not sure. But you could try writing Little Giant. They also have records to look up the serial number and tell you the age
@@BlackBearForge Thanks, John.
Idk how to forge im wanting to learn can you make a video on how to forge
Not how to but a budget price and things you need
How are you liking the knit Hot work glove?
So far I like it but only time will tell for sure. The knit is a little harder to put on and take off, but fits better once on.
Those were interesting tongs. Offset v-bits?
Yes they are. From Off Center Tools
Show us how to forge a skull for Halloween, please, from a RR spike? Viewer request? Please?
I'll see if I can come up with something
Did you give that cute, metal lizard a name? If not, might I suggest Spike?
Spike it is then

That was the original plan. But so far it has been a bit of a problem getting everything to work just right
That's cheating John, the head of the spike already looked like a head of a lizard😜😁
I thought cheating was the whole point
@@BlackBearForge Lol
I've got like 50 of these. Skill level?
I'd say beginners or intermediate..
Try to make a Spartans mask two
Dear blacksmith! Tell me please, should an old file be annealed before the first forging?
No it don’t need to be. Heat it and beat it. Anneal before grinding will make it easier to grind but no reason to for forging.
It never hurts to anneal or normalize old steel like files and springs to de-stress before forging.
have no use for your lack of narration!
