I don't think Napoleon actually installed him, I think the Swedish and Norwegians deposed their previous king and elected him because of Napoleon's success to essentially stop him going after them. Then when Napoleon started losing they helped fight against him under Bernadotte.

The world posited by this game is too chaotic to exist in reality. I didn't have time to count during the video, but it looked like there were something like 300 or more nation states more often than not, with broken countries all over the place, weird enclaves galore (like the Mexican one in the middle of the U.S.), and trade agreements and markets that didn't make much sense. Reality is simpler than that--generally speaking, the stronger neighbor just crushes (or forces its terms on) the weaker one, until the stronger one runs out of military/economic/cultural energy and starts to fall back.. But then maybe that's why so many people don't like reality.
