this will be my 10th year in a row doing NaNo but my 11thi in total. I’ve never “won” a November NaNo but i love the experience ive gotten the last ten years of participating in nanowrimo! my tips: - dont get discouraged if you fall behind or dont hit 50k by the end of the month! - remember to put your mental and physical health first! writing can always wait, your health cant. - have fun! dont stress yourself out to much, remember to breathe and take it one day at a time!
Thank you so much for that advise ❤️❤️❤️ I will definitely remind myself to be kind to myself especially making sure I don’t hit burnout. That’s amazing you’ve done it so many times! Really appreciate your words of wisdom 😊
This is going to be my ninth Nanowrimo and my biggest advice is get ahead early. At the end of the month, you’ll probably be tired and have other stuff going on so it’s better to get ahead when you can and have more motivation earlier in the month. Also, don’t be afraid to skip around in your story, if you’re bored with the section you’re writing currently, skip forward or back depending on where you are. Wishing you the best of luck ❤
That's amazing advise! Especially the skipping ahead. I really really appreciate it, thank you so so much! And good luck on your ninth nanowrimo! I'm sure you don't need it though lol
i've known of nanowrimo for probably a decade, but never gave it a real shot. this year the timing is perfect, i had several ideas to choose from and i'm currently working a job that gives me a built in 2 hour break every single work day. i'm nervous that i have no excuse! i chose my worst idea so i don't feel too much pressure for it to be amazing and perfect. it's an adult psychological drama with light sci fi and horror elements. :) good luck! also if anyone's reading this.. i need an accountability buddy (or a few)!!
I love your energy and enthusiam! Welcome to Nanowrimo, and thanks for the contagious excitement. I’m an old wannabe, but I’ve done Nanowrimo a few times, and shared purpose is always palpable. Thanks for sharing.
i got so hyped and excited for my very first nanowrimo i finished my preptober list in on week 😂😂 now i have a thick folder full of notes, lists, sample scenes and texts, world and city maps etc etc
Your excitement and energy really come through in this video! You’re making me excited for my first NaNo as well (after I woke up this morning realizing it was already October and I needed to for real for real prep). Excited to follow along in your journey and community!
I'm also a first time nanowrimo-er or something lol. I'm writing a sort of sci-fi queer romance that I've had in the back of my mind for YEARS. I've always put it off because it "wasn't good enough because it's a child's idea". I was very young when I had the first bits of this idea and now I'm 17. I'm a little overwhelmed at the moment but I know it'll wear off soon. An idea I've had for so long feels so daunting but I love it so much and I know I'll have so much fun.
Sweet! This will be my first Nanowrimo too!!!! Im so looking into that character ai thing you where talking about! It should help solidify my characters in my head better!
Its been a long long time since I properly wrote and last week I did a short story writing challenge... now I'm thinking its perfect timing for Nanowrimo! Prepped over the last few days and need to do a proper sit down plan tonight but I'm otherwise ready to go! Excited to see how long I last 😆 Good luck!
also omg the ai character generator is EXACTLY what i have been looking for!! theres a lot of avatar builders but i dont want to precisely pick out each and every feature myself. i tried browsing pinterest but i found it kind of super predominantly white and everyone is almost too pretty. my characters aren't supermodels lmao. thanks so much for this rec!!
of course!! I will admit sometimes you have to specify you want them wearing full PANTS so it's not like a sexy armour vibe (unless that's what you're looking for them hell yeah it'll be good), but other than t much better than pinterest
Good luck on your first NaNoWriMo - sure you will smash it! This will be my third go at it. The first one was sci-fi, and the second a contemporary drama. This time I have also chosen the fantasy genre so I wil definitely be following your journey!
Thanks for the AI Character generator link too! I’m like you I think, in that I visualize my characters. I’m an old guy, but I’ve been doing that since I was a kid. For a few years, when I was running a photography studio, I would do set pieces with anyone I could find that was willing. Over the last year I’ve played with NightCafe, but Perchance is so easy I can barely contain my enthusiam.
Preptober is imperative to winning NaNoWriMo! So happy you're doing it this year!! I've been doing it for a while HOWEVER... haha, only have won, one year. The best advice I could offer is It's literally all in the preparations, and then secondly, sticking to what you plan. Other than that... haha I have no idea but gosh, do I enjoy the entire process and I hope you do too!! 🤩🥰
Lovely video! I decided to try Nano last year at the last minute & gave up early on. I’m thinking of doing some prep this month to see if I want to try again this year 😊
Love the video! This will be my third or fourth NaNoWriMo. Have won once--failed miserably the rest. I'm coming back this year with something new--A plan! Going through Preptober. Never done that before!
Ooh very exciting to see you join the nano trenches for the first time! I've won nano twice before, and I'm very exciting to jump in again this year! Something that would be useful to keep in mind is that 50k is a lot of words, but it's not a novel! Novels are roughly around 70k to 100k. I'm going to be writing a fantasy post-apocalyptic xenofiction (animal pov) story and I'm really excited for it! But I'm very much a pantser and currently got my head spinning over a novel I can't work on for another month haha
Oh my god that's so cool, I'm in awe that you've won twice. And thanks, I will definitely keep that word count info in mind! Good luck with this year! I'm sure you'll have your third win, easy.
I am really thinking about participating too! I have never written a novel before but have been sitting on a novel plot for around a year with some new elements of the novel coming to me in the last few months. I had never heard of nanowrimo before, which feels weird now that I have seen so many RUclipsrs talking about it this month. Hopefully I will be able to participate and meet some really cool people in the nanowrimo community! Would love to connect with you too Olivia, as it's so daunting being a first time participant.
Yes do it! Let’s connect! I’m going to be posting every week so keep me updated on your progress!!! I also post on Instagram a lot and connect with people through there. You can do it!!!
I'm not completely competing, because I've already started and my book will definitely not hit 50k, especially not in the first draft 😅, but I love that people are actually competing, I could never!!
oh my god I actually had no idea it was the anthem I just found it on the site I use music and liked it!!! I am not Swedish and now I know not to use that as it is the anthem. Haha oops! (sidenote: I would love to go to Sweden though)
This is my second nanowrimo but during my first I had to live in a tent so basically my first 😅 I'm from Australia so unless you have buddies there's not a huge amount of nanowrimo buddies to find
I have tried a couple of times to do NaNo and find it very hard to follow through with it. I would like to do it this time, but I have all that doubt from all my fails of the past hah. I know I shouldnt let that stop me, but it's hard :P
I might totally fail this time, but at least I tried! And so did you the past few times!! Life is busy and this is a crazy challenge so don’t be hard on yourself if you weren’t able to complete it as much as you wanted to. This is to help us get motivation to write, not turn it into something we have to be strict about. You’re doing great and if you can manage it give it a shot!! Thanks for sharing your experience and I hope you don’t let your feeling towards your past tries hold you back from it. It’s all good no matter how far we get!! ❤️
I tried NaNo once before but gave up pretty quickly. Want to do it this year but I'm struggling to pick a project I want to work on. I have too many ideas!1
That’s amazing you have so many ideas!!! And hey, you just need to pick one project for November then you can always change it after the challenge. Either way whether you continue it or not I’m sure it’ll light a fire in you to keep going :) do what brings you joy!!
I absolutely will for any self publishing needs, I just used AI for a quick little exercise to help with a visual for my writing. But totally get where you’re coming from and will for any future publishing or advertisements :)
Artist here, this kind of thing is a totally ok use for ai imo. To help to spark the inspiration to create original things. No sense paying an artist to draw a character that might change during the writing process of the novel after all!
Love it! I am doing NaNo for the first time too after wanting to join for a few years. I’m working on a story I’ve pretty much outlined/prepared awhile ago but finally going to try to write a novel for the first time!!
this will be my 10th year in a row doing NaNo but my 11thi in total. I’ve never “won” a November NaNo but i love the experience ive gotten the last ten years of participating in nanowrimo!

That’s so cool!!! 😮

So exciting! I’m also terrified it’s okay 😅
Great video! I hope you have a wonderful Preptober!
Thank you!!
Hey! I’m a Nano newbie, too. Scared and excited over here😂 I’m aiming to do a high fantasy book.
LOVE high fantasy! I'm also equally excited and scared lol. We can do it! keep me posted on how you're doing if you'd like 😊
@@oliviaspages Will do! I’ll probably post blogs on RUclips to help keep me motivated … we’ll see if that helps
My first time doing nano too!!

I haven't done NaNo in so long because uni has made NaNo slip my mind and then I never have any outlining done so I plan to try this year haha.
I hope it goes well!!! And omg I could not imagine doing it as a student. You got this, be kind to yourself if it becomes too much with school!!!
