    I don't know which's the most random in fighting games between Kusoru's Sol and Daigo's Sol.

    It's pretty late, but people don't call him a god because of evo parry. The Japanese are the ones who referred to Daigo as 2d god before Americans did. Nuki actually coined the 5 gods of japan and had Daigo and himself as the 2 gods. He later added Tokido, Sako, and Haitani. And Daigo has been a top player at various games other than Street Fighter. He was a vampire savior champion. He was a top ggxx player too. In fact, he had a kumite where he went 35-2 and won many tournaments.

    Man, it's funny now to think about how I used to be amazed by Daigo's GGXX play. (In fact, it's what got me into serious fighting game play in the first place.)
    He had good execution for damn sure, but he made some INCREDIBLY random decisions that weren't, like, calculatedly "random" (as though that makes sense) to fuck with people. He just does the least rational thing possible to see if it screws with people and/or hits them, with a wildly variable success rate. Only thing that really saved him was that he had his Dust Loops on lock. The Evo 2K3 footage of him is especially embarassing, both him and his opponent in GF kinda flail around drunkenly, except Daigo finishes his combos and wins basically on that alone.
    Not that hard to see why he fell off in #R, he clearly didn't take Gear that seriously. As the game evolved he's all like "everybody's in here learning matchups and mixups and footsies and shit and I kinda just want to DP counterhit or RC/Grand Viper RC/command grab into one absurd corner combo. Back to SF/Vampire I guess."
    (full disclosure: I still love Daigo and I for DAMN sure love the Dust Loop. Greatest combo ever.)

      Have you seen him did 5 random volcanic and and gramd viper in a row.It's damn hilarious!

      ***** I'm not trying to blow up Daigo too hard. I watched videos of his play at SBO and Evo2k3 and it's clear there's at least a little method to his madness (which I hope I made clear up above...it's not so much that he's being an idiot here in casual play as he is partially fucking with people, partially figuring out the risk::reward ratio on the more YOLO Sol maneuvers. He wants to see what happens when he gets blown up on YOLO shit so he can figure out -- how badly can I be punished for doing this? And more importantly, is this player focused/practiced enough to CONSISTENTLY punish me for doing this, versus choking on the punish and giving me a reversal opportunity of my own?).
      And if he had stuck with the game in the long term I think he WOULD have developed his experience to the point where he's mentioned (seriously) in the same breath as Roi, Machaboo, P.C., 012, etc. His risks would have gotten more and more calculated a la his Street Fighter maneuvers rather than throwing Grand Vipers/DPs at the wall to see what sticks. But as it is, he's mostly a historical curiosity at this point -- an interesting look at the very early XX metagame, where the game was actually becoming quite playable rather than the FDC-laden one-touch mess that was GGX. (Vanilla Faust and Slayer notwithstanding.) He started from a high baseline because he had good fundamentals, great optimization, and picked a character who played VERY well to his strengths. But his drive to pursue Gear wasn't as high as others, and so he left the game before he would eventually get left behind.
      I watched him play Xrd on the stream as well, where he plays closer to his more-serious SBO self rather than his semi-trolly casual self. It's clear he respects the game for what it is and understands very well how it works. But in the end, he picked Street Fighter as his bread and butter over Guilty Gear (a fair enough decision, given his SF performance), so my expectation is that he'll keep focusing his training efforts on that rather than going deeper on Xrd.
      And again, I really don't mean to be too harsh to Daigo here. (Sorry if it looked that way). If not for the video of him chipping out Zakiyama's I-no with 4x Gun Flame FRC, I wouldn't be playing these games as seriously as I do, and I certainly wouldn't be writing essays like these. Daigo's play is still silly to watch. But I owe my serious competitive interest in these games largely to his YOLO antics. I'm not laughing at him nearly so much as I'm laughing at myself.

    A lot of people who don't know about japanese fighting game scene write lies about Daigo and fighting game scene.Even they don't know Ume-Nuki or Ogany I think.Daigo was one of the best player of GGXX.Stop telling a lie,please...ウソつくのやめろや

    @HinataChan30 Not so sure about #Reload. Vanilla however...he was like top 5 characters. Mostly due to that lame dustloop for free damage.

  • @Sportsmanshipfactory

    Daigo didn't "barely play" GG when it was released. He played it alot around 2003-2004, but as time went on he slowly wasn't able to compete at a tournament level anymore so he dropped the game somewhere around the mid-life of Slash.

  • @Laembort
    @Laembort 16 лет назад

    To the downvoters this isn't entirely incorrect, things are much better in GGXX #Reload and the subsequent revisions.

    Exactly. Thank you! If you guys want to see some REAL players, look at Miyako, Lime-Key, Miyako and the many other great Guilty players. Also, for those who think he's really good for how long he's been playing, he was playing way before Accent Core and STILL got destroyed in it.

  • @Siberianhusky89
    @Siberianhusky89 14 лет назад

    @YESthisnamesnottaken
    There is. He doesn't go insane or anything and if I'm not mistaken, I think he was playing against a Potemkin player. He just kinda walks off a little upset.

  • @PaulHindt
    @PaulHindt 15 лет назад

    Daigo is good with Ryu because he knows the spacing and zoning game exceptionally well. He also doesn't crack under pressure. He knows when to attack and when to hang back and he rarely misses combos.

    @SluggerJR even though There are videos of him using Tsubaki, Hakumen, and Jin. And the fact that Kaqn has a separate player card just for Jin. that and now in Extend he has a pretty high PSR count with Jin. (yes I know Extend hands PSR out like Candy.)

    reminded me of a C. Viper vs. Sagat match in SF4. That Millia player is good, but it takes alot to do decent damage, while Sol is more of a heavy hitter.

    @Overture2152 Order Sol don't exist in Vanilla GGXX. His main was Millia back then. Order Sol from Slash and onwards.

    Is this some kind of an earlier arcade release of SLASH? I haven't played slash myself, but all I can see in other videos is that Sol doesn't have the dustloop any more, only the sidewinder loop.

  • @Overture2152
    @Overture2152 12 лет назад

    @SluggerJR You also have to realize that kaqn doesn't main Millia, he mains Order Sol/Sol. He subs: Every other character in the game XD. no He mainly uses Millia when he feels like it. He does the same in Blazblue, Mains Ragna but subs: Tsubaki, Jin, and hakumen.

  • @Siberianhusky89
    @Siberianhusky89 14 лет назад

    It's odd though. This was quite a whiles back and Kaqn's main isn't even Millia I'm pretty sure. If Daigo was to play Guilty Gear now though, he'd get his ass handed to him.

  • @ProfessorJones7
    @ProfessorJones7 13 лет назад

    @ToxicTeapot
    That's not true. Daigo stopped GG because he was also playing other games at the time (CVS2, 3rd strike, 2X) and it was not possible to acheive and maintain a top level in all those games. He made a choice and let GG go.

  • @LUEcifer
    @LUEcifer 15 лет назад

    Why is this comment getting so many negatives? It's true. Daigo was good, but there are a lot of better players out there in GGXX. For instance, Ogawa (eddie), FAB (Potemkin), Daguro (robo ky)...etc.

    Oh please. You have to take everything into account when dealing with a situation like this.
    From your sentence, I'd say you are as familiar with this as a new born baby is with Calculus!
    Skill-wise, the character you pick can automatically limit down everything about you. If you haven't noticed, Daigo rarely goes for characters who require thought. Sol is the EASIEST character and it comes to the point that simply for getting a close match vs Kaqn, Kaqn is better than him.

    Look him up, Daigo found that he wasn't tournament worthy enough in Guilty Gear, that's why he quit, he's much better at games like CVS 2 or SF Third Strike and such. Guilty Gear is almost a different planet. Kahn however is one of the top heads of Guilty Gear play.

    This has nothing to do with Tiers. As OviasMire and Guayaba said, Cammy is an excellent example of a character that can easily take out Sagat. I don't mind admitting it. Hell, I've lost a few times to a Cammy player, and alot of times against Balrog/Bison. Sagat takes alot of skill to use in all Street Fighters because of a low number of invincible frames, average priority, low speed, and high delay. Even his repeated projectile use is dodgeable.

    As someone who plays Sagat, I can tell you straight forward he isn't broken. Sure, he's practically like a powerful machine gun. However, there are alot of weekness to Sagat that's very easy for the opponent to exploit if the Sagat players don't know what they're doing. Same with Sol. I go against a really good Sol player in the Guilty Gear series and found that there are openings that can be taken advantage of.
    I say those openings are enough of a balance for those characters.

    Of course Sol would be hard to beat with his ridiculous damage output, I think we all had first hand experience at getting Dust Loop'ed. That said I think kaqn was taking a little too many risks against a Sol, and like I admit, a rather weak Sol but nevertheless gotta be careful. Like you said yourself, the DP was obvious especially since that's pretty much all he did all game.
