if that actual knocking was heard as you read that terminal, that would make that place 10 times more creepy
Honestly the engine probably wouldnt allow it xD
I half expected that to happen as I approached the elevator door on my way out
i hope theres a mod to allow that

Maybe it was an invisible Chinese spy trying to drive the sergeant crazy. The spy could have banged on the door, made a creepy transmission, and then wiped the sergeant's holotape.
Murp Man
Could be true
Stealth Boy
Would not be surprised
Great theory. Surprised Ox didn't mention this.
Why tho?
I remember how this place scared the shit out of me, heck, it scared _everything_ out of me.
I was just done reading the disturbing logs on the terminal, turned around and the last thing I saw was that mutated bear running up towards me, howling loud as hell.
Pure. Horror.
I'm sorry for your loins, but at least you got a memorable experience
5:43 Had a strange incident today. I was monitoring the low-band frequencies - the stuff normally used by outdated equipment, when I came across a very strange repeating message. It was in English, but it was very difficult to make out due to all the static. It stopped broadcasting after about an hour, but I made out a few phrases: *"You would not believe your eyes"* *"if ten million fireflies"* and *"It's hard to say that I'd rather stay awake when I'm asleep."* The only other thing I picked up was what I assume to be a call sign: *"G-T-F-O."* I'm going to send these phrases over to translation in Washington as soon as possible.
Washington: "We aren't sure what he means by "I'd get a thousand hugs
From ten thousand lightning bugs." Does he mean only a thousand lightning bugs give him a hug or do each give him a tenth of a hug?"
I wonder what's so funny about hearing the same joke twice. surely the second time; it would not be funny anymore.
... but I made out a few phrases: "never gonna give you up", "never gonna let you down" and "run around and hurt you".
I'm going to send this messages to Washington right away.
Maestro Manifesto this must be a hidden message from the Chinese. *screams internally*
Timmy Dirtyrat
you prob got that from robeats on roblox but hey I'm guessing
"I wonder why these ones are broken but the one upstairs was not..."
Oh I dunno.
The Yao Guai maybe.

The alternate reality radio broadcast theory kind of reminds me of the game Bioshock Infinite where the people get snippets from other realities through so called "tears". One of the tears, when listened to, plays Fortunate Son by CCR.
and elizabeth comments how she’s never heard that song before.
Spish Spish Booker said that Elizabeth or anna whatever you wanna call her said "I don't think anyone's heard that song before
The Wandering Dovahkiin Proofread your comments. Booker didn’t say that Elizabeth said that. Booker was the one who said it in response to what Elizabeth had previously said.

Maybe the Yao-Gui got in there via a tunnel that was made during the initial bombing (the caved-in area) and made its home in the bunker like that. Shortly before you get there though the tunnel collapses and traps the Yao-Gui in there with whatever food it had stored.
As for the skeleton on the surface, I think that it's supposed to be a sort of guard for the area. He radios if things go wrong or something happens at the bunker, while the guy in the bunker scans the radio broadcasts.
That's what I though as well. It would make more sense. I mean I've guarded dumber shit in my life. My running theory is that the knocking was the guard pounding on the door when he recieved news of the initial bombs falling. I'm just gonna write his body being over six feet away from the door off as a side effect of Bethesda's wonky ass ragdoll physics
@@andrewshepherd1537 The shockwave from the blast, probably knocked him around in there. The protectron was behind one of the walls, and was safe from the fallout. When the blast cleared, the protectron moved his body into that chair, believing he just needs to rest. And it just stood there, waiting for medics to come retrieve the guard for over 200 years. Possibly thought that the Sole Survivor was a spy.

My theory: he got really lonely and used that shot glass you saw by his corps to get absolutely wasted. His lonely, drunk brain made it all up, and he sent an empty recording to DC.
All the bottles were buried beneath all that rubble near his corpse.
The man at the top was just there to guard the entrance and discourage locals from snooping around. Perhaps he panicked when the bombs started falling and activated the Protectrons.
I like your Eldrich Horror theory. Most of the Dunwich Borers stuff is based in Lovecraftian Lore, and the story of Listening Post Bravo kind of reminds me of the story Rats in the Walls.
I've always seen it as Eldritch Horror. I imagine it was a combination of a more vulnerable mental state due to the isolation, and something much like Kremvh or Ul-Qualtoth in close-ish proximity, with the banging representing the entity attempting to get inside his head.
That was the feeling I got too, that the Sgt was listening in and got chatter through the 'void' from whatever they were trying to unearth over at Dunwich, which seemed very very eager to have SOMEONE get it out.
Don't forget the kigsport lighthouse nearby. Another Setting by Lovecraft.
And nice to have both so close to the remains of Salem.
Love rats in the walls
Renkse is also the surname of Katatonia singer!
Jonas Petter Renkse is the name of the singer. Sergeant J.P. Renkse was the name of the person who wrote the terminal entries.

I just wanted to say Oxhorn, before you start the almighty Old World Blues DLC, that I've been watching your videos for quite awhile now. Your approach to showcasing all the lore in Fallout is impeccable and professional. For the longest time, I watched ShoddyCast for all the lore, thinking I knew it all. But then I discover you, taking every dialogue and showing what happens with each choice. There's not a single youtuber that has as perfect a voice as yours is for this kind of stuff. Thank you.
Storyteller was the shit. Sucks that they stopped making the videos
Storyteller was amazing and it just had a different and in my opinion better way of telling lore even if they didn’t cover all the lore oxhorn is still great though
You relied on ShoddyCast for lore? That makes NO GODDAMN SENSE
Sensei Llama
Idk what makes you say that
Tommy Vercetti It's a reference to ShoddyCast, I honestly love them

You have to wonder, how the heck did that Yao Guai get in there? Did it have a master hack skill? Did it set that master lock? Did it go down the elevator itself? God, some mysteries science will never answer.

Not sure if anyone else mentioned it but Jonas Renkse is the name of the songwriter and I think is the lead vocalist. So if your theory of there being an alternate universe connection it may have been because Sgt. J.P. Renske was a descendant. In one of my playthroughs I heard something breathing heavily in the elevator. This was after I came back up from reading that terminal.
When he looted the Yao Guai and didn't take the duct tape I screamed.
I like to think that it really is a connection to our world, but also an easteregg. They created the soldier in his special situation to explain his experience within "logic" and "reason" (isolation causing hallucinations, because of his found), but also tapped into the supernatural world to connect the song to the FO universe (opening to our universe and poltergeist activity). Maybe one of the developer liked the music and decided to have some fun?
I think he heard the banging on the door because he was going a bit nuts, but madness in lovecraftian horror allows you to see beyond the veil, and so he also saw through the fourth wall and got some radio transmissions from our world. Love it.
Bethesda wrote a fucking creepypasta. Awesome!

Do you think the Enclave in fallout 4 has infiltrated the Brotherhood of steel and tainted their beliefs? And are using their current tech to bide time and wait until their time to strike and stage a coup? I just find it so odd that they make no appearance in game and that the brotherhood has such radically differently beliefs from fallout 3
Maxson's beliefs are basically just reactionary conservative flavor Classic Dickhead Brotherhood; Lyons is the weird one.
You can find Maxson as a child in The Citadel in Fallout 3 and he is like pure by the book
Fallout 4 brotherhood members are like the brotherhood outcasts from Fallout 3
The Fallout 3 brotherhood are actually outliers. Most the rest of them are more like the New Vegas and 4 versions. Maxson eventually took over the branch in the Capitol Wasteland and brought them back to their roots.
"We find a helicopter landing pod, what purpose did it serve?"
Oh i dunno, maybe its a truck garage?
When you edited in the banging I reached for a toy gun but was like “what’s this gunna do and how’s he gunna get me?”

Metro Players: Ha, that's nothing.

6:50 thanks Oxhorn, since that came into my right ear, sounded like someone was banging my room door....and im rolling a joint.....dont do these scary things to me

You know that banging could have been the soldier at the top of the elevator and the soldier was banging on it to let him in the elevator and he was trying to survive.
i like that idea but washington got back to him after that happened, meaning it hadn't been bombed yet
I like how there's no real intro, just *Traveling west of Slog."

I remember this bunker. It really sent chills down my spine reading the story of the soldier. After reading it I expected a jump scare would occur when I would open the elevator, but nothing happened. As I walked outside I thought to myself." I'm never going back in there again."
Does is confuse anyone else that they say "Transistor Radio" here. In the Fallout Universe the transistor has never been build, thats why their electronics are so clumpy
In the quest to help the robots on USS Constitution get the thing to fly again there's a reference to *light emitting diodes* of all things, I'm not sure Bethesda gave a damn about the technological divergence by the time they made FO4.
I heard somewhere that basic transistors were invented sometime in the early 2000s in the falloutverse
They did make transitors but they were made just a few years before the war, around 2060 I think, but because they were mainly focused on war equipment, very little were made, meaning that they were also incredibly expensive. Fallout 76 has colour TVs but Fallout 76 is set in 2100 or something. Bethesda didnt really give one about their lore, as long as it was fairly understandable, it didnt matter if it made no sense
It was semiconductors that were never invented. Transistors were simply not developed until later in the timeline
@@dancingcarapace you realize that transistors are semiconductors? and so are LEDs. they both are made from semiconductive material...
You know what the bunker is?
*PeRfeCt spOt fOr A mIreLurK deN*
Why is there a Transistor radio when it was never invented in Fallout Timeline?
Bethsda is shoddy as shit
Actually, in the Cabot House you can find a terminal entry about how the transistor was invented no later than 2023.
Oxhorn did make a video on Retcons and mentions all of this. Bethesda is infamous for lore breaking transistors, ghouls and even the whole creation of Power Armor and X-01, It sucks yes but things like thing happen I suppose.
Transistors were invented, just later than in our world.
Think it through though, without transistors, much of the tech canonical to the original Fallout and Fallout 2 would be literally impossible.
Much as they wanted to set up a pre transistor themed alternate world, it really stretched the premise to an extreme.
Bethesda including transistors later into the timeline makes much of the world far more believable. With it having limited commercial use, "military grade circuitry" scrap item giving the impression they were either restricted or extremely expensive and rarely found outside the military.
6:50 Such realistic sounds.
There's another real-life reference to the band Katatonia. The sergeant in the game who wrote the logs is named Sgt. J.P. Renkse. The singer's name in the band is Jonas Petter Renkse.
Ox: like in dunwich borers when we get hallucinations
Me: *is walking around dunwich borers* how did u know?!
I think it's just the aliens from mothership zeta messing with that guy
"there's another turd on the wall" 1:39
"it seems to be inactive"
Also what a crazy deep Easter egg with the lyrics chopped up in a log entry. I wish they’d put way more stuff like this in games.
It may not be a ghost but someone from our universe that has a radio station and was broadcasting the song and talking about it and since it was from a different universe that’s why it was hard to make because of the static since it is broadcasting from our world. P.S I was in the middle of the video so I didn’t know he was going to talk about my possibility sorry Ox

So this is the first video from this channel that I've ever seen. I'm only a few minutes in and already I've found myself closing my eyes and just listening instead. The narration with the combination of sound effects really makes this extremely enjoyable to listen to while imagining what's going on. Like when I would listen to scary stories on tape when I was a kid. Hope the video continues like this throughout, I'm really enjoying it this way.
Has Bethesda reached out to you in any way? These videos are so well thought out and full of effort its insane. I appreciate them nonetheless.
1:40 “there is another Turd on the wall”
18:33 thought it was a skeleton running from behind the tree and nearly shat myself
10:55 I thought that X6-88 was the ghost.
I have no theories of my own, just an observation: Why is it that freakin' Listening Post Bravo can have creepy backstories, but when I get to Salem all I get is Mirelurks?
Salem! Burning witches? The Occult? Come on Bethesda...
Love your videos Oxhorn! One of my favorite lore channels( maybe more than the channel"Shoddy Cast", but that is because you have an altogether different style for your videos.). Really liked your banging sound effects for the audio recording. If possible, I would love to see you do more stuff like that in more videos, it added some good atmosphere. Anyways, love the videos you do and always look forward to them.
1:39 "There's another turd on a wall"
I've watched this video more times than I can count, and I only just realized that there's a ghost standing in the doorway in the thumbnail
I would say the real ghost of this place is Danse because he lives there but the rest of the Brotherhood thinks he's dead.
great video for hallowe’en season!
You need to start showing it on the map
I'm guessing this was a psychological experiment with the good sergeant as the test subject. There's no other explanation. They wanted to see what happens when people are subjected to paranoia while living alone in a boxed place.
There's one skeleton, sat the front desk. It's possible he intercepted a Vault-Tec communication, talking in code for everyone to prepare and they didn't want any risks since he sent the data to Washington. Insiders erased the data and they immediately tried to kill him, they couldn't get down there (the banging) so told him he was going to be relieved. The day they came, he sat the front desk and got a bullet in the forehead instead.
Something to point out at around 10:49 ish - the sergeant did _not_ record banging noises to play back to himself. He recorded a 'radio transmission', and there was zero mention of him recording the banging that he heard on the elevator doors?
I thought dead letters was mail that could not be delivered or returned?
yeah, me too... o_O
As much as I think your band-reference makes sense, when I first encountered this, I had several different ideas coming to my mind.
1: This is a small-scale Vault experiment. Similar to the vault with 1 person and all the dolls. They are using the Soldier to test human reaction when exposed to lack of human interaction and also a kind of sensory depravation. The person sitting upstairs is there to monitor and take notes. After a while (messages say he's been in there for months) his brain just starts to trigger sounds. I think a lot of people who have been home alone in an unfamiliar place can agree that a lot of wierd sounds happen all the time that our brain filters out. Which leads into 2.
2: This is a reference to the many kinds of creepy-pasta stories floating around online. I'm thinking especially of "Gateway of the Mind" where the story says they severed all the nerveendings of a person to see if deafening all senses made the patient access some other dimension. At first he just started hallucinating, saying he saw his dead grandparents etc. Then that he saw demons and after a while craved any sort of sensory reactoin to deafen the voices in his head.
3: People who float in those sensory depravation tanks (complete darkness, soundproof, warm saltwater that makes you kinda float so you are not resting on hard floor) start to hallucinate and hear voices.
In short, I guessed the voices were just from sensory depravation.
4: The tape with no sounds on it kinda confirms to me that this is in his head alone. I'm pondering if the tape is a reference to Contact, where Judie Foster travels through the transportation device and instantly falls out the other side. All her recordings are just static, but they are about 18 hours of static when she on earth just fell through the machine in seconds. But no mention that there is some temporal anomalies going on so, scrap that idea.
But my first thought, and the one I felt made most sense was
5: As you say there is no date on these entries. My first thought was that when he heard the voices he tapped into a band where the Chinese (or whoever else started the attack. I just came here from your "Who shot First" video so, for all we know this was from the Zetans) were talking and not knowing it was chinese his mind associated the sounds to the words he then reported. There are the classic cases of concerned citizens against metal music thinking if you play music backwards you can hear praise to Satan. Hearing a foreign language and hisshearing is not out of the question). After the voices comes the banging on the door, which is the person outside trying to get inside to get out of the blast, or regular people trying to get out. The bear then drags the people to its cave and so we find the bones there. I'm wondering about the responses from military command though but I guess it could have gone to the Enclave or CIT or NORAD bunker or whatever bombshelter.
6:50
that banging sound effect fucking scared the shit out of me. i was like "wait why did he pause" and then literally jumped when it happened. didn't help that its dark and i have my headphones super loud.
maybe just maybe what he picked up was a pirate radio broadcast done by one of the crew of the FMS Northern Star. Sweden, Norway, i would say its close enough that a norwegian saylor listens to a swedish band and set up an impromptu pirate radio station so that he and his fellow sailors can listen to it on the radio.
or maybe he stumbled upon a secret transmission frequency on which the only the background noise from the sailors radio got through
if the cargo of the ship actually was something the government ordered and wanted to keep secret it is entirely possible that they went full gaslighting him to make him doubt his own mind and forget about the top secret broadcast he picked up. and because he informed the government of him picking up the signal they immediately swiched frequency thus nothing else was there when he kept listening.
dear diary. 6:50. scared shitless.
Will you ever do videos about the elder scrolls universe? After fallout is done? It would be pretty cool.
Oxhorn isn't into fantasy genre
He’s written a fantasy book.
Your videos are incredible, all your hard work and research pays off in each episode and if anything they enrich the experience of the average person playing the game knowing the rich lore within the game
"jump up on top and explore the shaft" I hope I'm not the only one who realized how dirty that sounded.
i wonder if the yao guai being there is symbolism, because bears before the war were thought to possess the spirits of prisoners of war who died of torture(I think, idk). Maybe the spirit in the yao guai was drawn to listening post bravo.
Wait, theres a lore hole here. Didn't Transistors NOT exist in the Fallout Universe? I heard elsewhere that part of the divergence between our history and fallout history was the lack of the discovery/invention of the little life saving devils!? If thats the case, how could the note writer have a "Transistor radio" o3o
Noah Doxiro transistors in the fallout universe were invented sometime after 2030. There is a terminal in one of the games that says this. Can’t remember which
So Korn never recorded Twisted Transistor in the Falloutverse? Sad timeline
J. P. Renske is Katatia's lead singer
This is related to Dunwich Borers, no doubt. The spirit world is connected deep to them and the fact these places are both underground and incredibly close only solidifys this. "Internal void, dreams are getting darker, blood runs so still, D-E-K." Funny as it could stand for Dunwich E_______ Krivbeknih. Or its more boring and some dev wanted to reference a band.
In universe I'm running with the explanation being either hallucinations from being isolated so long or the guy up top being a prankster. IRL lack of communication happens in the military all the time. Especially when it comes to standing watches.
when the bombs dropped, the military officer found on the upper floor happened to be nearby, so he rushed to the nearest underground facility which was the listening post bravo. he rode the elevator down but the power went out due to the bombs , but the sergeant was oblivious. thats what i think happened
6:50 holy crap I actually thought someone was at my door
Plot twist: DANSE IS THE GHOST
Louis Yeh Yeh we can danse if you want to.
If you don't Dance then you're no friend of mine.
A safety Danse... Oh no!
Why would the Protectron kill the soldier upstairs? He's a soldier so he'd have clearance.
5:07 “One may wonder H-why they have a listening post here in Boston”
I think the strange sounds, the transmutions and banging was all auditory hallucination as stated by the guys in Washington, and the yao guai tunneled un and the tunnel collapsed, and the gun the guy took after the banging could have been buried under the rubble
I love the effort you put into your content.
Im wearing soundproof headphones, and when I heard that banging it scared the crap out of me
lol
What about the crows in New Vegas? Are they watchers as well?
I just wanted to add something to the Katatonia reference in this video.
J. P. Renske is the name of the person writing on the terminal and Jonas Petter Renske is the singer of Katatonia.
Hmm, perhaps there's a hole in the elevator shaft? That's how the Yoa Guai got in, possibly used by this mysterious knocker? And that why you can't get out into the shaft, because such a deep intricate tunnel for the Yao Guai to have come through would be too much for the devs to make.
great video for Halloween...IDK what to think about it...just enjoyed it....
You really ought to cover old world blues, Ox
It could he that, as in our timeline, there are military radio broadcasts from decades before when in specific areas or elevations, and the Sergeant may have been listening to the last words of a soldier from a war decades before
This kinda feels like clickbait, you didn't mention any ghost at all. :(
C - D It's implied the knocking is from a ghost. on the terminal the man said he locked the elevator down, and it hadn't moved, yet he still heard something pounding on the other side. Also the lyrics kinda point towards it
