As much as I despised STD, this iteration of the Enterprise is just beautiful. I already built this kit a couple of years ago, with lighting kit and aztec decals, and it's magnificent.
Gave up on the ST franchise when STD came into being, but I have to say of all the reimaginings of the ENTERPRISE, this is the best to make it to the screen. It is far more believable than the Abram Trek Enterprise. I have not built a model in 25 years, but I have a collection of kits stored away from years ago, and have been tempted to buy another kit every now and then to add in case I get back into it. I may buy this kit if I run across it. My current hobby of firearms and reloading is getting expensive.
I haven't built any models besides Gunpla kits (no painting) and Lego, but man do I really want to try this now! The engineering is impressive, and I love that they thought about electronics integration when they designed it.
Really a beautiful job on that Excalibur, I love hearing how Lou's masks worked for you, they look fantastic. I'm actually considering something a little silly for my Discovery-boxed version of this kit, partly because I want to see how it looks, and partly because it will greatly simplify the paint. I actually want to mod the model slightly to give it some older TOS-looking details (bridge, warp pylons), and paint it specifically in the original overall gray scheme. I'll probably build a few of these, I was even considering doing one in a pearly TMP scheme.
...that solution to the nacelles drooping is magnificent! Now I want them to revise the 2009 Star Trek Enterprise model build with all of these updates...!
Just one of the many benefits of this smaller scale is that you can build different variations (I know of at least 3 different conversion kits that are avalable)for this kit alone!
I thought this kit was just going to be a repop of the original kit, but after seeing your review I'm definitely going to get one! Thanks for showing the differences between the two kits. That sold me on getting the new one.
Funny thing when I got my 1/1000 Discoprise it came with a free 1/1000 refit. Major gripe here R2 needs to come out with a 1/1000 Enterprise refit that scales with the Discoprise/SNW Enterprise. Not the old 1/1000 scale kits that are now dwarfed by these new 1/1000 scale kits.
🖖😎👍Very totally wonderfully cool and a very nicely greatly fabulously looking kit of the Strange New Worlds Enterprise with all of its extra detailing and modifications of retooling compared to the first Discovery kit put out of it indeed!👌. (P.S. it would be truly absolutely great if they actually made a 1:350th scale model of this kit!).
The difficulty with a 1/350 here would actually be that the scaling between the two versions is... _complicated._ Note, this "1/1000" kit is the same physical size as the old 1/650 TOS Enterprise kit. They're both 18" long.. but the scales are completely different. The _physical_ issue is that a 1/350 scale kit of this SNW Enterprise, if they stuck with the size they're using, would be _over 51" long._ If the TOS 1/350 is already too big and expensive to be approachable by many, this one would be an even harder sell.
Concerning the difference between the TOS pylon and SNW pylon; I’ve theorized that the split is a common sense engineering design to separate the Jeffries access tube from the Warp conduit, thereby giving protection to crew traversing to the engines.
I haven't built models for years and never illuminated any, so I'm not up to date with the latest techniques. To get a more even illumination in the Enterprise nacellles (even after frosting), would it be possible to use electroluminescent (EL) wire, panels or tape along their length? I have an unbuilt Millenium Falcon kit from around 40 years ago which would have had engines illuminated by grain bulbs, which I disliked as they generated lots of heat to produce a bright convincing enough light. I thought the engines and cockpit rear bulkhead would look better using cutable EL panels that were beginning to appear at the time, but never really looked into it as life took me away from modelling. Now I am retired, I'm thinking of taking up modelling again and would like to build the old Falcon - I can't find much on using EL tech in model kits - has this been tried, and failed?
Hey mate. Do you know if Polar Lights themselves do a lighting kit for this model? I cant solder, so a plug and play light kit is what I’m after. Cheers and I love your modelling skills. Jason.
Is it a good guess that they altered the tooling of the Discovery version so we can never build it again as that ship vs making new tooling for this version?
My question is the same as when the Discovery one came out. This kit is larger than the 1/1000 Enterprise refit, by about 6 inches. Are they going to resize these kits?
Ha! I always thought the reason for the discrepancy with the saucer windows was that it would make the plastic fragile to have so many holes in close proximity. Had no idea the whole model was different in SNW versus DSC. That makes the DSC Enterprise model in Erica's quarters extra funny; she has a model of the wrong ship!
You know the dish on the Constitution class was called 'Primary Sensor Array' originally? I just found that out after looking at some old 1701 schematics, I guess they proactively changed it later, probably after TNG. Mind boggled.
Technically this is the same scale as the original series Enterprise. I have checked the saucer and nacelle sizes with the original 1/650 kit and both perfectly scale to each other. Just the Discoprise/SNW Enterprise Engineering hull is slightly longer than the original TOS Enterprise kits hull. I do think both wersions of the new Enterprise should look good with the Classic Enterprise.
I never understood the mentality of putting a giant windshield on the command center of a ship made to operate in space. Especially in an era (at least in the real timeline) where they don't have forcefields that can pop up instantly. The idea of the giant holoscreen (like in TNG/DS9/Voyager) is much safer.
It's not the best looking model. It doesn't look like the enterprise at all from the original series. Pike was before Kirk and the enterprise looked nothing like that
Very cool, like this fresh version of the TOS Enterprise, and also like Strange New Worlds 😃😃😃 🖖😃
As much as I despised STD, this iteration of the Enterprise is just beautiful. I already built this kit a couple of years ago, with lighting kit and aztec decals, and it's magnificent.
I haven't built a Star Ship in years. ut your unboxing has made me want to get this one. And Just go for it.

This is a phenomenal kit. Your Excalibur paint job is breathtaking!

Looking forward to the build!
I hope i can live long enough to build this kit.
And what light kit? Do you know how much it'll cost?
That's a cheerful thought.... 😂

Thank you for the review. Really liking all of the updates.

You’ve built a few now. What color do you recommend for the base color, silver, grey, gunmetal?
I can’t skip this kit now. 😮I’m going to have to do the Cerritos AND this one😩
If the Cerritos ever hits the damn shelves.Cali Class, always behind schedule.
Wow she looks awesome
I see a trip to a hobby store in the near future for this model kit and the 1:1000 scale refit.😁

Can you tell if they addressed the lip along the registry lighting to allow it to actually illuminate the registry?
Thank you for the review. They really added to this!
That is stunning.
Does this mean that this kit will work with the Disco Enterprise lighting kit?
I may have missed but do you have a price for this awesome kit?

Great video, thanks :)
Do you think I can use the old decal set (I have a spare set) on the updated model?
Fascinante Jim
Next do the USS Lollipop. I hear it's a good kit.
Thank you for showing the differences.
Are you planning to detail the scorch plate on the hull?
Can you use the lighting kit from the Discovery version, or will there be a revised SNW version?
Probably yes to both, I can imagine they extend the old kit but you might just as well use the old one.
That's exactly what they did, so your Discovery Enterprise is a collectors item now
My question is the same as when the Discovery one came out. This kit is larger than the 1/1000 Enterprise refit, by about 6 inches. Are they going to resize these kits?
I am watching and waiting for this model to be available on Amazon

Great video folks 👍 ❤️
Ooooooohhhhh!!!! I can't wait!!!!

what did you do to your hand
It's a retooling of the Discovery Enterprise, molds not a new tooling, according to Round 2 models
They need to make a 1,1000 scale Klingon D7 battlecruiser and Romulan bird of prey from strange new worlds
i wish you could focus your camera i find it hard to watch some parts of the video because the camera is blurred
Great coverage of the kit! Motors in the nacelles this time?

OOOPs I pulled a Chekov.
Enjoyed your video! Great breakdown of the polar lights build 👍
That Excalibur is sexy as hell.
when is this available to purchase?
Preorder should be available everywhere pretty much soon.

If it was 350 scale it would be better. If it's 1/1000 it would only be about 13 inches...
Do this one first
I think it sucks to begin with, the original was perfect, the new one looks like a hot rod version!
It's not the best looking model. It doesn't look like the enterprise at all from the original series. Pike was before Kirk and the enterprise looked nothing like that
Lol CBS changing things for what reason
It's maddening for canon freaks like me.
@ my canon stopped when Enterprise ended.
