The man took down a team with 3 HOFers in their prime with a 100 year old Jason Kidd as his second best player

please dont disrespect the 2011 team to put down another team dirk led the way and had one of the best playoff runs of all time but that team was perfectly built they even swept kobe and beat okc that year theres no way just one man can do that on his own so dont underrate the 2011 mavs and only give my man dirk credit

The 2011 championship run is still the most impressive of all time. Dominating LeBron and Wade with Jason Kidd and Jason Terry as his best teammates and hitting clutch shots game after game was just unbelievable ... By far the most humble and loyal guy who ever played in the NBA!

Yeah, Kobe was a legend "no doubt about it" but if you look at it stat wise, he is a very inefficient scorer, who shines the best during a pressured moment. I won't say that Dirk is better than Kobe, but at least Dirk had one of the best playoff run in the nba history, he is very efficient scorer, and he also has a season of 50-40-90, (which not many players, especially big men can do)

I'm a Mavs too and even I wouldn't say that TBH. Dirk in his heyday was nigh unstoppable on offense yeah, but he's always been a pretty bad defender. Duncan was great on both sides of the ball. That's partly why I think very subtly that parting with Nash was a good idea, they wouldn't have won any championships playing 3 on 5 on defense.

I mostly agree with that as well... I believe Dirk is the 2nd greatest power forward of all time, but he wasn't greater than Duncan and I don't believe it's because of defense (otherwise you can say that Karl and Garnett were greater than Dirk and I don't believe that)... I believe it's because how Duncan was able to adapt himself to form a championship team with Popovich from the beginning of his career... also Duncan had a higher IQ than Dirk and also made his teammates around him better than Dirk did

What is the function and apex of Dirk Nowitzki's high arcing shot?
At 7'0'' tall, Dirk Nowitzki towers over almost everyone on the court. To add to that, he has one of the highest arcing shots in the league, which makes it so satisfying to see the ball go in the hoop, as the ball flies so high. In one clip of the 2011 NBA Finals, Dirk Nowitzki's shot goes almost off the screen. So I became curious, how high did this shot truly get at its apex, and if I know the starting and finishing point and the vertex, what is it's function?
I was able to find out that his typical release point is 9.5 ft high! This gave me a starting point with the y-intercept, as the y-axis was the height of his shot, and the x-axis was the distance. I also was able to see in the clip that his release point was roughly half a foot or so behind the three point line, and at this point the 3 point line is 23.9 feet away from the hoop. Thus, I could assume that he was 24.4 feet away from the hoop, giving me the starting and finishing x and y axes: (0, 9.5) and (24.4 , 10) (An NBA basketball rim is 10 ft high)
For the apex, I had to find out how high was at its peak, which would have been at 11.2 feet far (22.4/2). One of the announcers can be heard saying, "that's as high as the shot clock". In reality, it looks even higher. By the fact that an NBA backboard in 42 inches tall, and the top of the backboard is 13 feet high, and a little bit of photoshop on my computer, I was able to estimate that you could stack up 1 and 2/3 back boards above this. With dimensional analysis and addition, I was able to find that the peak height of his shot was 18.83 feet high, about the maximum height of a Giraffe!
I then put my three new values into a 3x3 and 3x1 matrix to find out what this function would be. I plugged it into my calculator, and got y= -.07x² + 1.6x + 9.5.
As Dirk is nearing the end of his career and the hall of fame, this gave me more appreciation for the legend.
note: some parts of this could not be fully accurate due to resources, such as the true heights and distances.

    Happy birthday, Dirk!
I can't put it into words how much you meant to me when I started playing basketball. Every time I was on the court, I would try you patented fade-away jumper just for fun against friends. I'll never forget the day I shipped your jersey all the way to my home and into my hands - it was a moment that I'll remember forever. Your jersey is one of my most treasured items I have.
An underrated legend - in just one season, he swept the then-two-time-defending-champion Lakers with Kobe Bryant, then schooled a very young Oklahoma City team (that beat our asses the very next year lol), and finally, in the Finals, he embarrassed LeBron James' big-three Miami Heat in 6 games - completing one of the very best Playoff runs in history.
Hey, with maybe a little bit of luck, we could've upset the Spurs in 2014 as an 8th seed (just saying, after all, we were the only team that took them to 7 games).
My mind knows who the G.O.A.T. of the NBA is, but in my heart, you are, and always will be, the Greatest of All-Time.
Anyways, congrats Dirk on 40 years - we Mavs fans don't mind you being here, so you can retire whenever you want.

Henny Spiderman yea. Only reason he was never #1 PF in eveyones eyes is because he had little defence. For sure the best offence of any PF ever. KG and Duncan had way better defence put if you had but Dirk on San he wouldve won more than they did with Timmy

@@tynao2029 Nah, Mavs has 50+ wins every year for more than a decade, KG was struggling to make the playoffs. Both of them only has 1 ring, and KG has less all-NBA team. Not take away anything from KG but they aren't close.
