Man, the last time I went sailing there were two apps Navionics and one other I can't recall, but WOW, so many choices. And the power management, super cool.
Jason, I could use your help downloading grib files on Weather 4D. What is the best way to communicate? Awesome video. There are a lot of people sailing with unlimited budgets and all the latest gear. I respect the miles you guys have sailed and the quality of your seamanship on what appears to be a much more reasonable budget. Thanks for sharing your adventure.
Hey Steve many thanks 🙏 we do aim to keep things simple, efficient and cost effective as it makes cruising a whole lot more enjoyable. Have you managed to download the book on weather 4D? If not do it as it’s amazing and has some great video tutorials and if you need a hand don’t hesitate to email us at trimaranspirit@gmail.com anytime.
This is fantastic!!! thank you. I will be studying this for quite a while-- just downloaded isailor, they charged $19.99 for the charts which seems to be a subscription but I'll go in and turn it off so that I don't get the updates which is what I think the fee is for. I also worked on a whole of the privacy settings in there as well... Phil
Awesome Phil! Yes they automatically put you into the yearly chart update subscription but it’s easy to turn it off from under subscriptions. Good to see you also sorted out the privacy settings!!
There's a story about a motorcyclist in South Africa that had an accident with that same Garmin. Hit SOS and only received a message the next day in hospital from the South African Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA) saying they couldn't help, and no one from Garmin support replied for two months. Not good. I know the GGR require the YB3 Handheld Tracker which also uses the Iridium network.
Yeah very good point and that’s the issue when relying upon buttons only to send distress signals. I’d not recommend relying solely upon the SOS function either the bit I like is the two way communication you have, the preset messages you can send and the constant tracking and the (up to) 10 day battery life!! which are all great attributes when it comes to being found at sea
You were doing great until the anchor alarm. However, you did read the room correctly and only one eye closed. You did a great job of giving an enjoyable tour while keeping it moving. Cheers!
Another great video guy. Really love and get a lot out of your channel. Appreciate your work, big fan.
Much appreciated glad to hear you enjoy it thanks 🙏
