You hear ignorant people saying Rocky movies are just stupid, unrealistic boxing wannabe blockbusters, when in reality they miss the whole point. It's a franchise about *life*. Doesn't matter if Rocky was a boxer or a lawyer. The message, the journey through life, the steps, they're the same.
I love the movies, possibly one of my favorite series of movies. As if action movies are ever truly realistic. I watched this as a child and only really enjoyed the boxing and the music training montages. Now as an adult I can appreciate the whole storyline about rocky coming from being a "bum" to a millionaire then broke again because life is not all sunshine and fairytales.
In Rocky's own words, "It's not about how hard you hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep movin' forward." That's what the Rocky movies are really about. Adrian was his lifeline... until she wasn't there anymore :-'(
Seriously. Adrian wasn't just the one you could confide in, she was really pretty. I grew up watching Rocky, I thought that girls were like that. Now I learned they have tattoos. They don't even respect their own bodies.
Exactly. Ladies, this kind of loyalty, devotion and respect is always hotter to men than how thin or "sexy" your body looks, how much makeup you put on.
Fear does not make you a coward it’s accepting defeat when you haven’t given it your best and tried every Avenue possible to overcome the adversary. In Adrian Rocky was glorified in his high points, low points and in every step of the way. A woman that knows the best her man can be is what emulates her as well.
Well, that's always been true. We haven't had many Adrians in the last 40 years because of feminism shut down male and female relationships in favor of the sisterhood. Feminism is still a pretty new thing.
Yeah, they're waiting for the women to change whilst they should rather improve themselves. Besides, it is not with millions of Adrian that the world will take a good direction, it's better that people start thinking and acting like Rocky.
Man, started a new job and really wasnt prepared for the change. I thought back to this clip. Now every night I watch this before bed. Raw. Being able to admit that you are afraid. Makes a man "more man" in the end
I am currently going through a divorce and things have gone downhill quickly.....many days of questioning myself and quitting.........then I remembered this from way back. Thanks Rocko for keeping me going.
Late reply to your comment but totally agree. Fantastic acting by both. You really feel the love. Even the bond between Apollo and Rocky. All of it feels so real. Maybe they bonded off screen and it was easier to do. Although some of the greatest acting (despite the fact I hate the film) has to be between Swayze and Dunaway in Dirty Dancing. They hated each other yet offered up scenes that people love to this day
I can tell Apollo and Duke were smiling after this dialogue. They also knew Rocky had to confront his fear head on and Adrian was able to make him do that with her love for Rocky.
"What, you're human, aren't you?...Look, I don't know what I am!" Man no matter how epic the dialogue and exchange is between Rocky and Adrian, Rocky will never let us forget who Rocky is and where he came from. This is the greatness of these films and why the "Creed" films, no matter how much money they make, will never be as good as these original films.
My wife kinda gave me this same advice. I'm scared of my own success but she's always been behind me and pushing me and supporting me. That's a real woman I got.
For an 1980s movie for a strong male protagonist to admit weakness and fear is quite exceptional. It wouldn't be so remarkable in movies nowadays but back then the strong macho male image ruled supreme with big strong action protagonist ruling the silver screen (of which Stallone himself was a big part). It was only much later in the very late 1990s and early 2000s where popular action heroes weren't these invincible strong men. Movies such as the Bourne series come to mind while previously it was all Schwarzenegger, Stallone, Van Damme, Chuck Norris, Steven Seagal,.... hardly people you would consider as being like a regular joe.
These movies are so inspiring. The boxing is just a back drop in the way the civil war was for gone with the win. Rocky & Adrienne have the kind of love story that I think is the most beautiful I've ever seen. They made eachother better. Her love & faith made him beat apollo but want to be more than just another bum from the neighborhood. His love for her took away her shyness & gave her confidence . I love the details bc they are so true. When she fell in love with rocky she started to dress nicer grow her hair more & have it done. Put on make up & ditched the glasses. When ur in love u start taking more pride in it appearance. I loved that bc it's so true to life. I always wondered why they didnt have more children. Maybe the scare with robert was why. Anyway Adrienne was like rockys lobster. Once he found his love he mated for life! He never cheated on her , or flirted with other women. After she died he was still faithful bc he could never love anyone else again. He gave her his heart & he could never get it back. She was with him when he had nothing. The sweetest scene was when they got married & she said " I hope it will always be like this " & rocky said " you're never getting rid of me" he would not leave her bedside & would not see their baby until she did. Just beautiful. I also loved when she bought him butkis & he saw her & said " yo" & she said " yo" back. So cute. Also u can't count out Maryanns love for apollo. She took in & adopted apollos love child with another woman. When adonis mom died she went straight to get him . She loved adonis bc he was part of the man she loved. How many women out there would do that. She gave Adonis everything she gave her own children with apollo. Otherwise bc he liked to fight had no mom his future did not look bright. He would have went to foster care . She picked him up from a juvenile detention center. He was probably about 12 but he always called her mama. I dont know if their is gonna be a creed 3 but I wish we could see adonis with his half brother & sister. I also would love an apollo origins story. I always figured apollo may not have had a dad around maybe he walked or was dead bc duke told rocky that apollo was a son to him. Apollo was a very articulate educated man when we meet him in rocky 1 so I'd love to see his story up to where his story begins in rocky. A rocky origin story would be cool but we kinda have the idea that he did not have any family & he started boxing around 23 when he picked his nickname. I think with the creed legacy being such a hit I think exploring apollos back story would be awesome.
The Loner She was mentally abused by the director. She quit being a actress for awhile because of the mental trauma. She was a bad critic of *Kubik??* Forgive me for not spelling his name correctly. @@sirpuss5887 What are you talking about? That wasn't Talia Shire, that was Shelley Duvall, and apart from being dark they don't look anything alike. You're right about what Kubrick did to Duvall, it was appalling. Ugh now isn't rocky just most beautiful love movie ever 😩 I swear to have a man love you the way he loved adrian now that was man ...I want me a rocky 😭
But I mean...you still have to win the fights. If you're not any good, you're not going to be contenders, even if there's an angle. Floyd Patterson is still an all time great heavyweight champ, even if Cus D'Amato kept him from fighting Sonny Liston as long as possible.
Adrian is great in rocky, she really stood by his side, Slyvester Stallone needs to make another Rocky this will be his son he used for the Balboa movie this time he trains his son Rocky jr. It will be great much better than creed, Slyvester Stallone this will be his greatest film 🥊🥊👍👍

I literally just watched the scene when they met in the pet shop, adrian really come out her shell for rocky and he really loved her, this movie is to real for cinema.
What courage Adrian had to put some sense into Rocky to get him more worked up to prepare for his rematch with Clubber Lang to get the title back after he lost it before losing his manager,Mickey, who loved him as if he were his own son.
We are fighters. She's absolutely right you have to settle it. If your at peace with things end it. I will stand by you no matter what you decide. Your one of the strongest men I know beside my pops. It's taking a toll on us. Its brutal out in this cruel world. I just want you by my side.

What's the point with prefering a woman that is neither beautiful nor smart to a beautiful model ?
If Rocky can be afraid, the whole world can.
What about Rambo?

Adrian beat the fuck out of Rocky with zero punches lol 😂💯
I love this scene. Seeing Adrian grow from a shy, timid, reserved girl into a strong, mature woman who speaks her mind and stands by her man.
A lot of people saying we need more Adrians. How about more Rockys?
Why not both
Rocky would you like to say some words?, "Hey Adrian it's me Rocky"
Rockys are everywhere, it's the Adrains that are in short supply

The dialogue in these movies is unmatched. I can literally quote at least 50 lines from each film by heart

we need more Adrian in this world
In the First Rocky She started as a very shy person with glasses and and she is better looking in this one and younger well more mature
Nothing is real if you don’t believe in who you are!
Dammit, that got me tears! How amazing is it to be married to such a woman!
I've used the "Get rid of it" line (03:07) in my life when stuff gets as real as this scene. Epic scene. Epic franchise.
This must be where Rocky got his question "who are you fighting for?" when he asked Adonis.
