Not really. Alaric kills him. Everything about that ending was rushed; Damon and Elena, etc. I get the show implies they do sort of, but there’s no scene showing it.
It’s makes so much sense why Damon end up with Lena, Damon took time to know her and hang around with her genuine to feel something but stefen loved her because of her similar appearance of Katherine.
