  • One in five children has a diagnosable psychiatric concern - making mental health the single largest health problem facing young people in our country today. At the same time, tens of thousands of children in Alberta suffer from brain-related health issues such as epilepsy, stroke, traumatic brain injury, autism and ADHD. Sadly, brain disorders can have serious life-long effects. Knowing that during childhood there is a window of opportunity in which brain plasticity can be optimized, potentially helping children’s brains adapt - even rewire and repair themselves if appropriate therapies are developed and applied - the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation has identified Brain Health as one of our highest priorities.
