Dutchie here. Bit taller than average at 190cm. Played darts and for a while I was the shortest player in the team. All others were at least 195 cm for a couple of seasons. Family is reasonably tall too, but the males in my mothers family were the largest by far. My grandfather from that side of the family was somewhere around 200cm and large, at least 125 kg, but probably closer to 150 kg; without looking overly fat; he actually was nicknamed "de reus" which means the giant. It was a thing in those days, Netherlands wasn't as rich back then in the twenties and thirties, so the food wasn't as good back then. My uncle was a bit shorter around 195cm, also a big man. He was a butcher with hands the size of hams. Because I am a bit smaller I always joke that evolution is going backwards in my family. There are also regional differences. People in the north tend to be a bit taller on average than people from say Brabant and Limburg.

51, 1.98m, Dutch/Frisian. When I'm abroad I quite often feel like a giant. Especially in asian countries I feel awkward, even random people want a photo with me in it. It is fun for a week, but feeling 'normal' in the Netherlands is always a bit of a relief. Furniture, public transport, doors, kitchens, toilets, almost everything in the Netherlands is built for tall people. Here I don't feel tall, there is always 1 or 2 people taller than I am. Heck, most of my male friends are above 1.90m!
I am Dutch woman, slightly below average with 168 cm. I work at an International University, the female toilets are lower here, to accommodate all the foreign women that work here.
I bring down the average in the Netherlands:-) I am a 160 cm tall Dutch woman. Something that is funny but also very difficult in a world with giants. I can't easily reach anything in shops, shopping for clothes is a disaster and sitting somewhere where I can put my feet on the ground is no longer possible. But the plus side is that everything that is old in the Netherlands is suitable for me again :-) Old houses, for example, are ideal for me. The steep stairs are no problem with shoe size 36. I don't have to bend over to go under a old door frame :-)
It also depends on where you are in the Netherlands, the people in the northern province are taller than in the southern provinces, of course there's also people smaller in the north and taller in the south
Single Dutch women prefer men of 1.85 m. That became clear at dating sites. And that’s a pity, because I am only 1.80 m…. but persistence payed off and now I am happy with my 1.62m lady 😊
My best male friend is 2.14m (7ft) and he is an attraction abroad 😂 He gets so many stares and comments everywhere we go, especially in the States and Japan. In Japan I became the designated photographer, even being a 1.80m (5’9) woman.
Hi, I am a Dutch woman and I am for the Dutch average small., 169 m. My husband is 1.95. Our 2 sons are tall. They are 2.03 and 2.00 . Our oldest son was at the age of 1 4 already 1.94 !!
I was one of the tallest of my family and at school, but new generations are taller. My youngest son did not want to be taller than me (1.90m) but ended up 1.95m. He's happy with that now. Averaging between 1.90 and 1.95 feels like the perfect length here.
I'm quite small for a Dutch woman (159 cm). it can be frustrating, because the average height is quite tall, that a lot of basic necessities are catered for a certain height. Reaching top shelves in stores is difficult, the toilets are always too high, at work I need the office chair at it's lowest which is then just about the right height for me, and the thing I hate the most: pants are always too long (they barely carry shorter sizes, so online is the place to go) and sleeves are too long. but people call me cute a lot because I'm small according to them, so there's that🙃
I'm from The Netherlands, I'm 180cm and when I was 14 years old, I was the shortest of my class, boys and girls combined. Even these days, I'm probably still the shortest male of everyone from that class. When I go to Ajax (a football club), as a supporter, I'm often impressed about how tall the average male is over there. You can easily see 50+ guys of 200cm+ waiting in line. I estimate 190cm is average there.
I'm 183cm and feel normal in the Netherlands, still there are many people that tower over me. My uncle is 2.18m and that's very tall even for the Netherlands. When i go to different countries i always get people telling me i'm tall but i am not at all actually.
I'm a Dutch woman. I'm 5'8 (1.70), normal by Dutch standards. I have travelled a lot and I always feel very self conscious in every other country around the globe. Once I was travelling alone in China and waiting to board a aircraft, I was the tallest in line. Felt so weird. 😮 Especially because I"m somewhat overweight. It made me feel so huge. 😢😂
With 175cm I’m short as a Dutchman but not everyone is 2m. A lot of people are between 165-190cm It’s more that the younger generation is taller than the older generation
It's true that the Netherlands has some of the tallest people in the world, with the average height for Dutch men often cited between 183 cm and 188 cm. Many young Dutch men, especially in northern regions like Friesland and Groningen, tend to be even taller, frequently surpassing 190 cm. Dutch women are also notably tall, averaging between 170 cm and 175 cm, and sometimes reaching 180 cm or more. There is indeed a mix of factors at play when it comes to height. Genetics certainly play a significant role, but as you've mentioned, diet-particularly the traditional Dutch diet rich in dairy products like milk and cheese-could be a key contributor to these impressive heights. Studies have shown that calcium and vitamin D from dairy help support bone growth, and the Dutch emphasis on these foods might explain part of the phenomenon. Additionally, it's interesting how second-generation immigrants, such as Moroccan and Turkish families, often grow taller than their parents, showing that environmental factors like diet and overall health can also heavily influence height, not just genetics. Height disparities between regions, like the north being taller than the south, also support the idea that more than just genetics is at play in determining how tall people grow.
as a 1.87 male i once stayed at a host family in London. When i wanted to take a shower i could not get the head higher than to my shoulders XD But also when it was very busy on the main streets i could easily see over everyone. You could litterally count the tall people on 1 hand. Was a funny experience. Same in Austria everything is so small that i have to watch my head. Luckely since its a more populair country to visit for dutch allot of newer vacation houses have doors that are atleast 2 meters tall now. And it gets even more obvious when you date foreign woman. I once dated a 1.44 Vietnam lady trough tinder. I was kinda shocked when i saw her the first time.
I’m 175 from Taiwan living in the Netherlands for 5 years. When I first arrived, it was the first time feeling small/average in my whole life. I used to have difficulty shopping pants/shoes in Taiwan but now it’s so much easier to shop since it’s the most common size. Love it!
Being Dutch and being of average height, I've noticed that the older a house is, the lower everything is. And that when you buy a kitchen or a toilet in the Netherlands, the sales person will actually look at the height of you (or the both of you if you're a couple) and recommend a certain height for your toilet to be mounted at, or how high to make your counter top. Buying houses, I remember a particular occasion where the realtor explicitly stated: "Actually, the toilet has been recently renovated (year), but the reason there's a standing toilet in stead of a hanging one, is because the owner of this house is really tall, and a wall mounted toilet would have meant less legroom. (Because toilets in the Netherlands are typically claustrophobia inducing cupboard spaces.) So to make a long story short, we've just adopted it. For that matter, I also know beds of 220 cm are not a rarity.
I am a 170cm Dutch man. I always feel so small here, but I got to Asia for my first time last month. What a world of difference! 😯Like a shock for me as it was for him, but the other way around😂
Growing up in the Netherlands it feels normal to be taller and taller. I always been very happy to be average with 180cm. It's not very tall in Dutch standards but a gaint for asian average but still very average tall for most of the world. What is uncommon is my short legs and very long upper spine.
I'm a 5'1/158cm Dutchie, and my height is one of my greatest insecurities. My father is average and my mother below average, and I got the short end of the stick (pun intended). They often say, "you're average for the rest of the world", but I don't live in another country, I live in the Netherlands.
@@Iflie Even if you're a man it shouldn't really be an issue. You didn't make yourself short or tall, you don't deserve any credit or blame for your height.
@@jaspermay5813 Well if you are my height as a guy it would be harder to date for sure as you would be so short it might seem like there is something wrong with your hormones or genetics. That's why women are attracted to taller men, because height says something about the guy's health and resources on an instinctual level. Dutch women don't care a lot about height but that issue remains in all women everywhere, much taller doesn't mean better but much shorter does mean worse unless the guy is very handsome and famous like some actors.
Another pretty tall Dutch guy here (198 cm). It’s always funny when my family and I are out in public, especially outside the Netherlands or in Amsterdam, which is full of tourists. My dad is the same height as me, my 'little' 17-year-old brother is 2.01 m, and the most surprising of the four of us is my mom, who is 1.91 m! It’s always amusing to see people turning their heads, unable to comprehend.
I am Dutch and my father is 193cm and my mother is 160cm and I am 168cm, yet for the sake of my father (whom has a hernia) we let the new kitchentop be installed at a height of 105cm on the washing side and the cooking side is 95cm. My father is over the moon because of it and to be honest... it's not bad for small people like me and mom either.
My mom cooked a lot and was really short so she had the counter installed lower than usual, but how easy that was depends on what you are making, you don't want to be trying to kneed dough at a too high counter. But it's fine for cutting things.
Funfact, the builder of the M5-metro's in Amsterdam which you can see @7:20 gave the nickname BFG (Big Friendly Giant from Roald Dahl) to the metro's. This because everything is big (3,00m wide) or bigger than normal (with 2,30m high ceilings and 2,08m high doors the highest in the world).
I’m a dutch 49 years old man and i’m 188cm. When I was young I was skinny and let’s say more upper average group, now when I go grocery shopping I see a lot of late teens and early twenties that tower over me and have a muscular well formed body and can be really intimidating.
In 2007 I have been to Taiwan and South Korea on a study-trip. 25 students, 2 professors 11 were taller than me (I'm 1m90) So it was not hard to find eachother in the subway as the girls didn't have black hair and the boys were taller than the rest of the people. Riding the bus was quite a challenge as you could not stand up straight in the middle path and in Taiwan the offices in some buildings were quite tricky as you would hit the sprinklers on the ceiling. I think this Korean guy should also have visited the north of the Netherlands (Groningen) as here I do not feel tall at all, but when I visit family in the south I'm significantly taller than the rest.
I live in the Netherlands since I was 8. I am “only” 1.62 and feel quite small here. My husband is 2.05 and that is very high even for Dutch standards. It is very difficult to find things that fit, like with furniture and clothes. Once you pass the 2 meter things become complicated. Sitting at a theatre (leg space), buying a couch, installing a bathroom. Many times it just doesn’t work well with what is available

My grandfather, who was born somewhat 100 years, ago, was 2.01cm which was very tall then. He had shoesize 52 and had his shoes made in the UK because in those days you couldn't buy those sizes of the shelf in a shoestore. My oldest nephew stopped growing at 2.05 and he had been given medicine to stop growing because doctors expected him to grow up to 2,25 or more. I am 1.75, 58 yo and the shorts of the family in the Netherlands due to a Greek father. I think it's the good food in the Netherlands and being aware what is healthy and what not. I live in Hungary now and most people are small here, especially the older people. Sometimes you see a 1.85 "giant" but that is nothing to me. I always wished I was 15cm taller.
As a guy, slightly below the average here in the Netherlands, (181) In my line of work. I feel short, tho the moment I go on vacation to another country, I feel so much taller. My perspective literally goes from having to look up at people, to simply look over them.
I’m rather small with 172 cm and there are a lots of people on a ‘normal’ hight like me, but as much people who are towering above me/us. I know when Dutch people date they are looking for someone of the same hight. A guy 172 with a girl 190 would look a bit odd I guess. Also I notice that being smaller or being bigger has an influence in your confidence. Feeling ‘small’ or feeling ‘superior’ can do something with your mind. But most times it just doesn’t matter

I'm 163cm and am tiny for a Dutch person. Pretty much everything is always too high for me. We luckily have things that accommodate different heights. When you buy a kitchen for example you have 3 standard heights for the counter so it's comfortable to use for pretty much everyone without adding a stepladder to a kitchen. We also have 2 standard sizes for mattresses 200cm or 220cm. It's always really interesting travelling to other countries. I'm used to being the shortest person, but outside the Netherlands, Amsterdam is also an exception, I am not short at all. Beds and showers are always weird when traveling. Beds in a lot of countries aren't even 2m, and showers tend to be way lower than I'm used to. I live in a world that's bigger than I am and on occasion travel to a world that's more my size. I can see why a tall person would travel here, it's just built different here.
I'm 183.5 (6ft and a bit) and I am considered average height here in the Kingdom of the Netherlands. My younger brother is 196.8, he too isn't considered anything special in regard to height over here. We Dutch are by far the tallest people on the planet on average.

Als de dijken beken.. kan iedereen het hooft boven water houden.! 😊

Hi, I’m a Dutch woman, 58 Yrs of age, and 176 cm tall. Pretty average here.
My sons; 194 cm & 191 cm.
They call me “ kleintje” ( little one)
Love your video’s. Keep up the good work!
Love from the Netherlands 🥰
51, 1.98m, Dutch/Frisian. When I'm abroad I quite often feel like a giant. Especially in asian countries I feel awkward, even random people want a photo with me in it. It is fun for a week, but feeling 'normal' in the Netherlands is always a bit of a relief. Furniture, public transport, doors, kitchens, toilets, almost everything in the Netherlands is built for tall people. Here I don't feel tall, there is always 1 or 2 people taller than I am. Heck, most of my male friends are above 1.90m!
Iam from the Netherlands and, I didn’t think 193 was even considered big
193 is gewoon lang hoor, ik ben een dwerg van 171 maar er zijn genoeg mensen te vinden die even klein zijn
I am Dutch woman, slightly below average with 168 cm. I work at an International University, the female toilets are lower here, to accommodate all the foreign women that work here.
I bring down the average in the Netherlands:-)
I am a 160 cm tall Dutch woman.
Something that is funny but also very difficult in a world with giants. I can't easily reach anything in shops, shopping for clothes is a disaster and sitting somewhere where I can put my feet on the ground is no longer possible. But the plus side is that everything that is old in the Netherlands is suitable for me again :-)
Old houses, for example, are ideal for me. The steep stairs are no problem with shoe size 36. I don't have to bend over to go under a old door frame :-)
you single and ready to mingle aswel.? XD
i am 1,77cm and my shoe size is 41/42 gheghe
Try Belgium for clothes shopping.
They also have better taste in fashion ;)
My mother is too, Dutchy here. But we do get used to it anyway, we don't know any different, besides always looking up. I am 169 myself
I feel you!! I'm 163 and it's not easy.
@@nickybookz222 I’m used to being asked to grab something from the highest shelf in the supermarket ;-)
1.87 and recently turned 14 years old, im dutch
My grandkids to😂
It also depends on where you are in the Netherlands, the people in the northern province are taller than in the southern provinces, of course there's also people smaller in the north and taller in the south
I estimate 190cm is average there.
im 1.80m male here in the Netherlands... i was the 2nd to shortest in my class in highschool and most likely still am
I'm 183cm and feel normal in the Netherlands, still there are many people that tower over me. My uncle is 2.18m and that's very tall even for the Netherlands. When i go to different countries i always get people telling me i'm tall but i am not at all actually.
Zelfde, exact het gemiddelde
bro, eigenlijk ben je wel lang, het is gewoon dat iedereen hier gigantisch is
I'm a 1.71 m dutch woman. I'm not tall. Especially compared to the younger generations. They're definitely getting taller.
It’s the opposite!
@@devilangel4655 unfortunately what you say is not true, in the past people had less food and ate food that was not as heavily processed as today
🤦♀️🤦🏻 “Really” you were born tall or short!
Getting fatter doesn't make you bigger,
it makes you fatter, just in case.
1.69m Dutch woman here (yes funny number), I feel small in the Netherlands and I live in the UK since a few years and here I feel like a giant haha
1.98, 22 years old dutchguy here! Went to Bali last year, got looked at like I was the hulk
I'm a Dutch women, 32 years old. My height is 1,68 cm, pretty small for my generation. My kids are going to be taller for sure!😅
im a 201cm dutchman, its funny to go to countries where people are smaller but its also not good for my knees or back hahaha
Im 5'4 as a Dutch teenage girl, and i feel so incredibly short all the time its sad
But most men love short girls, so enjoy ❤
@@SeorkMaxx Dutch guys actually don't seem to care about height in women, they don't mind tall or short.
as a 1.87 male i once stayed at a host family in London. When i wanted to take a shower i could not get the head higher than to my shoulders XD
But also when it was very busy on the main streets i could easily see over everyone.
Love it!
My husband calls me a hobbit, i am 1.68..
That's a nice video. Thanks😂

189cm here. I'm considered tall but not very tall. It only happened once where I was in a group of ~5 people and I was the shortest.
I am a 170cm Dutch man. I always feel so small here, but I got to Asia for my first time last month. What a world of difference! 😯Like a shock for me as it was for him, but the other way around😂
I was 1,86 but now at 71year 1,83 , my grandson is 1,96
Dutch mom here! My 15 year old is 1.92. He is hoping to hit the 2m for sure 😂
Growing up in the Netherlands it feels normal to be taller and taller. I always been very happy to be average with 180cm. It's not very tall in Dutch standards but a gaint for asian average but still very average tall for most of the world.
What is uncommon is my short legs and very long upper spine.
My son is 1.95 which is always a problem when going on vacations. Beds are most of the times to small. His feet stick out.
Me 196cm and my little brother 203cm. Father 180cm mother 174cm.
Same, me 203, my brother is like 1.95, my dad 1.85 and my little sister also 1.85 my mom 1.70😅
im only 182, a dutch guy. I feel average to short here. But everytime I go to a different country, even germany, I already feel much taller.
I'm a 5'1/158cm Dutchie, and my height is one of my greatest insecurities. My father is average and my mother below average, and I got the short end of the stick (pun intended). They often say, "you're average for the rest of the world", but I don't live in another country, I live in the Netherlands.
As a 159 female I'm fine with it but if you are a guy, yeah that would be an issue.
@inkvampyr rob, is that you?!?
bro maak je geen zorgen, het is een normale lengte
I'm so short by Dutch standards, about 160 cm. It's a massive pain when I go to concerts because I have to be in the front to be able to see ANYTHING
Dutch woman here, I'm only 1.56m., so very small.
I'm 6.3(1.93), and worked years as a bouncer at clubs over here in the Netherlands.
The last year's, I already had to look upwards to youngsters.
Im half Dutch/half Philipino. So I’m pretty small
I am 172cm as a dutch person and im always reffered to as small guy by my friends😅
I'm 179cm tall here in The Netherlands. I'm definitely always one of the smallest people in any given room.
Im 1,98m dutch man and i have guys in the family that are above 2,00m. Alot of Dutch people are indeed very tall :)
I'm average with a height 180 cm. And that's also how I feel here. Some are bigger, some are smaller.
How's the weather up there?
Dutch and 186cm, I can attest. Tall people are very common in the Netherlands. Women too. I live in France and I tower over most people.
I’m a Dutch woman , I’m 1,65 . My husband is 1,71 , we are little 😁
I’m a dutch 49 years old man and i’m 188cm. When I was young I was skinny and let’s say more upper average group, now when I go grocery shopping I see a lot of late teens and early twenties that tower over me and have a muscular well formed body and can be really intimidating.
In 2007 I have been to Taiwan and South Korea on a study-trip.
25 students, 2 professors
11 were taller than me (I'm 1m90)
So it was not hard to find eachother in the subway as the girls didn't have black hair and the boys were taller than the rest of the people.
Yeah I'm from zeeland close to the belgian border and I studied in Amsterdam for a while and the people are taller and blonder up north.
As a 190 ish cm dutch guy, I've never felt that tall until I went to the US. There's tall people there too, but you can definitely tell the difference
168 and I'm below average here in the netherlands. dangling feet are the worst, or when you have to get something in the supermarket from the highest shelf!
I'm Dutch and have a height of 1.78m and is below average for my country..
As a guy, slightly below the average here in the Netherlands, (181)
In my line of work. I feel short, tho the moment I go on vacation to another country, I feel so much taller.
My perspective literally goes from having to look up at people, to simply look over them.
Well sir, come live here in the Netherlands, you belong with us 😉💪
The Dutch know about growing stuff... Including themselves...
I am a dutch woman, 1.85cm. You get used to people staring at you, if you are abroad (southern europe, asia). Sometimes it can lead to quite some hilarious situations
I'm 1.60cm, immigrated Long Ago to Holland. Umbrella spikes in my eyes, can't see in front of anyone, can see myself in mirrors on my toes, have step ups for kitchen cabinets. I fit in a Dutch clothes for 10 y.o's. Most pre teens are my size. I love going to Spain, Italy, India to feel normal. People pat me on the head 🙄, I'm 40+
I am 179 cm and the smallest of my class. (17/18 year olds)
I'm 183.5 (6ft and a bit) and I am considered average height here in the Kingdom of the Netherlands. My younger brother is 196.8, he too isn't considered anything special in regard to height over here. We Dutch are by far the tallest people on the planet on average.
I am a 5.9ft (175m) tall Dutch male. I do not consider myself small compared to alot of citizens. Its that there are way more outliers compared to other countries. I have friends around my height, but also that are 6.4ft (195m) plus. If you would take the average of our heights it will be around 6.1ft (185m).
I am 1.96 so above average hight in the Netherlands, but old homes are sometimes an issue since there build for less tall people
There is a picture of "our" dutch giant Olivier Richters (he is the tallest bodybuilder, 2,18 m 7,2 in ft.) He is standing in a fastfood restaurant in Korea, i believe. The counter is so low that he could step over it if he wanted.
Very interesting video indeed!
I'm a woman. 1.71cm tall. I'm one of the shortest in my family though. In newer houses the inner door are also higher. My doors f.i. are all 230cm high.
As a 43y old 187cm guy i've noticed that during my lifetime it has become somewhat more comfortable for tall people and i'm only average... Furniture in public spaces has become better for example, more comfortable for taller people.
@ 1,89m, born in NL in 1980, I used to be one of the tallest guys when I became 21. Now I'm 44 and in every busy area, I'm closer to average. There's always taller people than me around.
I'm an 1,78 m tall girl with short hair (really short, a man's hair cut). When I went to Singapore, it happened to me three times in two weeks that someone approached me from behind, tapped me on the shoulder and said "sorry, Sir,..." I always had a backpack on, I think it might have been hiding my curves. When I turned around laughing, they were always very sorry and excused themselves a thousand times. Me and my best friend (1,68 my tall girl with long hair) found it very amusing
2m used to be too tall in the Netherlands
But houses started to get doors that are 2.30m since 2001 so now it's getting better
Im 186 cm and almost 67 years. When younger i was 190cm
I'm a 175cm dutch guy. But i come from the most southern part of the Netherlands, id say im average hight here. But everytime i travel North i feel incredibly small
I'm 1,83m and I even although that's average over here, I feel short.
I am a 1.86m tall mother of a son that is 1.95m (at 17 years old) and a daughter of 1.72m. (at 12 years old). And my husband is 1.89m. Tall, but not extraordinary in The Netherlands. 😊
Hi, I'm 56 years and 195 cm + kinda broad shoulders. I'm glad most 190-210 lads are walking straight up, cause that's way better for your back when you got old. Btw if your interested search for the Dutch giant. He is HUGE! + is a upcoming actor.
One husband and son at 2.02, my eldest son is 1.94. We refer to him as 'kleintje' sometimes, which means small one. I myself am 1.70. Imagine going on walks together.
I'm 1,95m and Dutch (that's basic af here). I always get reminded that i'm actually tall when I leave the Netherlands for vacations and such.
Let him meet bodybuilder & actor Olivier Richter. Abroad they call him the ‘Dutch Giant’. He is 2.18m tall (and wide)
1.94 Dutch person here. I feel small quite often, especially since I live in Amsterdam. It seems there's more (2m ish)tall people here then out west.
